The VL drove great. Even the non turbo. Wonderful engine- smooth, gutsy. Had a few for work.
Couldn't agree more!
Love the VL Commodore. Brings back good memories from 2007 when I had a VL the same colour. Wasn't turbo but I still loved it. I would still have it but was side swiped by a shit truck driver near Herne hill.
damn unlucky.. such an iconic car
Are you a Geelong boy?
The non turbo vl auto did 100 kmh in 8.1 the turbo auto 7.2 the manual turbo 6.4. Just for the record. The were beasts
Very fast for the time
Beautiful spec, not crazy over the top, just a car to enjoy getting around in on a Sunday afternoon.
Absolutely loved it 🔥💪
How that interior looks like that without a re trim is insane it’s sooo clean !!
I’d be itching to add a bit more power to it lol
Those number plates are mad too !!
_wow, it’s been decades since I’ve seen a stock looking VL … ya gotta love a cool sleeper ❤️😴 congrats to the owner 👏🏼👏🏼_
_well done Ross on the find_
Definitely a gem 💎
Nice cruzer great to see another old school aus 🇦🇺car the VL brings back memories when they where new 👍cool bro Vz Glenn 🏎
Glad you enjoyed it
Our family had a dark blue VL Executive sedan back in the day as a family car. Lots of memories in that car. It was written off when an EL-GT Falcon failed to give way to my dad, who was towing sheet metal in his trailer at the time. The VL was written off, I don't think the EL-GT fared any better sadly (Bet the owner of the Falcon felt like a goose)
When the VL turbo came out there was a lot of talk about the potential. A bmw mechanic friend bought a VL turbo new. Having no internet he had to play with the setup himself to make more power. Soon it had a set of Simmons wheels, Koni shocks, lowered and we were off to Bathurst. In a time before the licence points system, with legal radar detection and emptier roads it was an epic trip chopping toranas, falcons and even some more exotic bmws, jags etc. Good times 😂
Awesome video love it 😊
Thanks for the visit
"hectic habib spec"
good afternoon my friends, ross reviews here again
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful VL! I'm a Ford guy like you, but I'd love to drive a VL again
You should! I really enjoyed it
The hectic Habibi VL you reckon mate lol,nah I love VK’s & VL's I actually had a stock VK & it drove like a dream, this brings back great memories as a kid growing up in the 80's in western Sydney,so I really enjoyed this review cheers brother 🙏
Good to hear mate I loved cruising this icon
Nice clean example and set up - great cruiser!
Thanks! 👍
there was a wheels road test mag back in the day where they had the speedo fully around and of the clock at holden proving ground
These came out when I was finishing high school. At the time the VL Turbo was the fastest Aussie-made car in current production and did 218kmh from memory on the test track (my wife's Mazda SUV is probably faster than that these days) and was quicker than the 5 Litre V8 versions at the time . I was driving a '78 Torana back then and absolutely lusted after these things.
I reckon it would've been the gearing that held the VL back, if you look at 90% of cars before the 90s they didn't have proper highway gearing unless they were German, slap in some new diff gears and a nice stretch of road and I reckon a VL T would hit 230 or a little higher
What are you taking about man, the speed limit is 100 it's all about how quickly you get there 👍@@Lotus-S70
That intro was fully hectic
The iconic vl turbo, this one’s gonna be good
Icon!
had a vl for a few years back in the day, that nissan 6 cyl eng was fantastic !
Awesome 😎 VL Turbo review bro 😎.
Thanks! 👍
Another wicked video man 😊loving the Aussie cars on this channel ✌️
Glad you like them!
My father had a brand new one in 87 . Dark blue Berlina non turbo
That’s awesome
Great video really enjoyed it RR😉🇦🇺👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Fully sick bro
Hectic 😮💨
Thank for sharing another Holden. You two are right. They have got away from building cars like this. It is interesting years later Oldsmobile had that front end styling on its cars. It is all GM.
"The cars they have now are nothing compared to this" ----------- Wait and see, people will be saying that about the VF in 30 years.
The VF is still iconic 🔥
Fully sick mayyyyte!
💪💪 hectic
Miss My VL Calais best car I ever have had even though it wasn't Turbo version but with extractors and a homemade cold air intake it went well
Amazing cars with character turbo or NA
The VL will always be one of my favorite cars overall - even before watching Fat Pizza I thought they looked handsome and sounded fully sick! ;)
It was cheaper for Holden to source a different motor than to retool for a new local motor. Keeping in mind the Buick V6 was considered for VL, eventually it found its way into VN.
GN Buick turbo would have been nice
Caetano Bodyworks are still doing awesome ground up builds. Hit them up if you need high quality work!
What a sic crunt!!
Cornflakes 🤣
@@RossReviewsau I had to google the full clip after watching your video 🤣
All jokes aside, 7.6 0-100 wouldn’t feel to slow, id imagine with a tune this would make well over 350nm of torque at the wheels so it would feel pretty quick. If it was manual with a lightweight flywheel, it would be pretty fast id say
"Back in the day this thing would have been an absolute rocket" 😂😂😂
No dude!! The owner told you at the start, this was N/A until he got a turbo kit done to it. So this wouldn't have been a rocket at all back in the day!! It would have been slow!!
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IF IT WAS LIKE HOW IT IS NOW!
@RossReviewsau oh yeah if it was factory turbo back when it was made, would have been awesome, but unfortunately the early years was naturally aspirated. Looks and sounds amazing in your video though
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
The good old Lebanese Lamborghini
Love it mateeee 😮💨
Got got a morning blue calais in melbourne, just sitting there. Damn fuel system rusted out, fixed the car 3 times over. Would sell it to get in on the crypto. Everyone knows its just hnaging aorund, always asked if its for sale haha guess people just want them
Love it!
Thanks!!

What is that app for the times

Hectic Habib Spec ;)
Fully hectic brah
🇦🇺😤
Sic mate sic Subwoofer.
😂
What’s the song at the start?
I love how people say vl commodore is a fully sick Holden. Most of it wasn't Holden, was Nissan you Clowns.
It’s still a Holden…
Thinking of selling my vl calais. What are worth now
Bad time to sell
@@RossReviewsau everyone saying to put it greys online auction site. Do you knoe much about the process there?
Was this a factory turbo?
Originally a NA but made to Factory turbo specs
Do an Ecotech N/A pleasee
Why bother? Everyone already knows they are shit.💯%
*Fuly Sik Sub Woofer Mate!!*

Habibi
@@RossReviewsau hectic Habib spec 🤣
I sold a factory vl 5 speed turbo in 2011 for 3 grand 😭😭😭😭😭
OMG 😱
They handle like a bucket of shit unfortunately...
It’s a cruiser that’s almost 40 years old what you expect
my na fg barra still alot faster
*No one cares about your crappy na Barra. VL Turbo much cooler than your drone na Barra pussbucket.*
And
that's not the proper dose.
Sounds good to me man
Yuck.
"hectic habib" cringe.change the name of this video.
