    Just outside Hill city was my home for 3 years. One hot summer night we rode the infamous Needles Highway. Epic is all I can say.

    The trails here in the black Hills are incredible. You didn't even scratch the surface of what's up there waiting to be seen. The silica caves are a little more well known now, but there are many more caves and abandoned mines... Look out points and scenery are abundant. Glad you enjoyed playing in our back yard.

    You can literally get to any spot in the black hills on ATV/UTV trails. You could start by Spearfish which is northern area and ride all the way to Hot Springs which is southern hills on trails. There are plenty of stops and scenery to take in. Absolutely love riding in the hills. Going to hit them in a week for roughly 5 days.

    Love Hill City area. After riding the motorcycle rally for some years, we decided this is a great place for a summer home. Recently purchased a place, and now ATV's... Great video!

    Great Vid, love that part of the country......
    you can ride on the roads in Montana, as long as you have a mirror, turn signals, horn, and license it... it's a perminate license... and cheap

  • @robkinney
    @robkinney 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Guess you guys haven't ridden in Montana. Same rules apply with where you can ride as long as your machine is street legal (plates, horn, lights, etc...). That is how we get around between trails. I occasionally used to ride my RZR to work. Good video, btw - will have to venture over there and check it out.

    We were there with our ATVs later July of 2015. Is there a place to park our trailers in Hill City? We were in the south of Deadwood area along US 385. It was nice to get away from the "Tourist Traps" (sorry, that's what they are) of the Black Hills area. We did about 3/4 riding trails and 1/4 tourist attractions. Nice balance! Loved it!

      I thought the same thing. I also loved how they acted like they are the ones bringing side by sides to the hills. I understand that this was done 3 years ago but I have been riding in the hills for 20 years and AVTs have been around longer than that and side by sides for as long as they have been available. The fact that the business owners in Hill City didn't know about them is a joke.

    I live out here. The trail system is great EXCEPT that trails are being ripped up by people driving like this with ATVS and dirt bikes. If you are throwing dirt and rocks from your spinning tires, if you skid thru corners, if you blast thru wet areas, you are NOT doing the trails any favors. Slow down.

    Atv's are street legal in Wyoming as well . You guys should check out the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming . Elk View lodge rents ATV's , riding in the Bighorn Mountains is absolutely beautiful .

    • @1crazynordlander

      +John Tardif We were thinking the next time we go to the Black Hills to head west for a day to Devils Tower. Are there ATV trails in that area? I will check out the Bighorn Mountains on another trip. Sounds fun. I know in SD you have to have a horn, license plate light and a mirror. Any special permits for Wyoming. I doubted that SD was the only place you can ride an ATV on all roads except the Interstate.

    • @scenicdriveways6708
      @scenicdriveways6708 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been to devils tower a few times , but always on a cruiser or touring motorcycle , never on an ATV . Horn ,left hand mirror and license plate ( and proof of insurance ) are all you need to ride on Wyoming roads on an ATV . Just a regular vehicle drivers license is needed ,. In the National Forest on ATV trails your machine has to be 50 wide or less and you must have an ORV ( off road vehicle ) sticker. Check out " Fishers ATV World " to see their Bighorn Mountain ATV adventure .

    • @greatbuffalo
      @greatbuffalo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing but gravel roads for the most part in the Devils Tower area, but some great roads they are. The Bear Lodge District of the Black Hills National Forest is just to the east but is not as open for off road riding as is the other districts.

    Wow ! A place where no one talks about trouble . A place where people can hunt and fish . Where no one talks about school shootings . Where the people are just plain old people . I've been to Faith South Dakota ! In mid October with a good buddy of mine . In 1991 what a great little town the people there were some of the nicest people I ever came across they didn't lock there doors . It's not like that where I come from . Big companies come and go using all the resources up . Then leaving them to sit polluted and unusable . I work for one of these companies in two different states side by side . They cared for there people that work for them the same way they cared for the land . It's 2018 now things haven't changed . Well maybe they have , the greed has gone up the pay has gone down . I've worked for 44+ years they couldn't wait to get rid of me . They could now hire two people for half the price . I'm truly sorry for working for them now that I look at it . Don't let them tear up your state your common sense of right and wrong . They leave nothing behind but decaying factories and home structures . People with no souls . I give this company the same grade their name begins with ( F ) ! I believe one day they'll destroy themselves . Like the people they try to destroy every day that worked for them . So after seeing this video I realize what a waste of time i've had working for this family . Go to college kids and never work for these people . Blue collar or white it means nothing to them . I apologize for getting off the subject of beauty and tranquility what a lovely state to see . Long live the dreamers .

      You did not spend much time the state or in The Faith area. Not far from faith is an abandoned uranium mine that left such a toxic waste land that it will be nearly impossible to clean up. Also in the Blacks there are many superfund sites left behind by gold and silver companies. Oh... and the run off of fertilizer from from many of the farms leave the down stream waters polluted and full if toxic algae blooms. Remember, we have our problems just like anyone else, its not paradise.

    Been riding for 50 years. To keep a riding area open they should be riding responsibly and treading lightly. The more you rip through like your racing, the more riding areas get closed. They even admitted the trails were “fresh”.
