im 13 and banksy has been one of the biggest influences in my life in a while two months ago i thought about killing my self but the next day i saw his artwork and just the sight of it made me become happy i know it all sounds cleshe but banksy saved my life so id like to thank everyone who hs in some way been involed in art and risked fines nd jil time to be the modern philosophers like i try to be whenever i can thnk you for reading
looks like he did it with free hand, what i mean is he didn't use any stencils, which is unusual, i haven't seen any of his artwork as freehand before. my mum told me that some people don't respect banksy's art, but i do, and he is an inspiration to me as well.
This is insane, it's what art's all about. It just stops people in their tracks. It's like modern day Socrates. Makes people turn a mirror on themselves.
@Alex2149 thats what i was thinking, then i realized how large a stencil he would need, if it is him, he probably did it free hand, which is why it looks a bit odd
@Ishitoneveryone They say Banksy is Robin Gunningham, but who knows. Banksy isn't a graffiare he's a street artist because he uses stencils and tiles to make his piece like murals not canned up offhand so he uses lots of tools and that makes him and a lot of others street artists. No idea who was the first in street art but taki 183 was the first to tag but bet the first pioneers of street are in AVANT
this argument is gold, i am basing my extended essay on the topic to what extent is graffiti/ street art vandalism or an art/art movement. please if you dont mind, tell me you point of view and outlook on this very controversial subject. if you inbox me that will be even better. cheers.
@Bdog0905 It's the same thing. It's not like street art is legal. In Banksy's own movie, he called himself a GRAFFITI artist. By the way, I don't think this is even him.
I guess if I were to try to paint something very large but recognizable on the side of a building, & had to do it in the middle of the night, and do it quickly, I suppose I'd make a template that an accomplice could use from another building top to guide a laser pointer to shoot a beam against the wall I'm working on. It would give the outline & major details. He'd slowly move the laser & I'd follow it w/ paint. I doubt that's what he does, but I can't think of any other way myself.
@Mejuz no i just say google cus its easier than saying "spend some time doing research" and the docu-mocumentary was actualy a banksy art piece in itsself! he took over the actual documentary and turned it into what it is! he dont show his face ever his name wasent even known in midwest usa untill that doc came out. thats why i say "the film made him famous" but hes a mostly stencil street artist in this vid yhere is free hand spraypainting not realy banksys gig
Banksy's work implies social and political messages and themes that are significant to people. What you call "true graffiti artists" are in an entirely different category. They scrawl their names illegibly on the wall only for the recognition of others like them, and not the larger public like Banksy. They do not appease to the average person, but only those who appreciate "getting up". Also, we are in an age of technology where artists create without ever physically touching their work.
@mercilessMarksmen It would be unlikely that any building owner or district council/authority would allow "Let them eat crack" to be on view in 20 feet letters.
Artists change. Develop. Its what they do, and I feel some of the humor is very much banksy. especially in the third piece. And, even if they're not? Who cares. Good art is good art.
@Ishitoneveryone y theres no banksy signature. Gottta have respect to those who did this because nowadays when you do great a graffiti it all goes to banksy
jesus, is this man imune to law!?!?!no one got suspicious of the cherry picker, projector, or man painting over/on public property... .... ... lucky bastard.
@betterinformed like how you go on about theres no such thing about art? then state theres only famous art and non famous art ? "which are both forms of art. well theres no difference, just one is more familiar then the other :/ just saying x
This man is an art legend... all those huge stencils and artworks without anyone seen him...
im 13 and banksy has been one of the biggest influences in my life in a while two months ago i thought about killing my self but the next day i saw his artwork and just the sight of it made me become happy i know it all sounds cleshe but banksy saved my life so id like to thank everyone who hs in some way been involed in art and risked fines nd jil time to be the modern philosophers like i try to be whenever i can thnk you for reading
Reading your comment 11 years later. You should be 24. I hope you are doing well. Wish you all the best.
0:51 I stared at that painter the entire clip thinking wtf? why isn't he moving? then i got it XD
Love the third one! banksy is a genius!
What amazes me more than how he did it, and how he didnt get caught etc is how he finnished it in time.
I mean, all by himself? all night?
looks like he did it with free hand, what i mean is he didn't use any stencils, which is unusual, i haven't seen any of his artwork as freehand before.
my mum told me that some people don't respect banksy's art, but i do, and he is an inspiration to me as well.
how does Banksy go around - create these massive artworks and go without being spotted in New York or anywhere for that matter. The guy is a genius.
this is simply amazing...
@Ephphathar RIGHT !!! You have to double take at first glance...then you finally realize just how incredible it actually is .
haha that one at 1:13 got me i was like why isnt that guy cleaning up the rest of the wall he cant see it when he's up against it. nice art
he probably got seen, but people love him so much that they don't want him to get caught!
can anyone point out where those peaces are? I would love to see them.
incredibly thoughtful messages
This is insane, it's what art's all about. It just stops people in their tracks.
It's like modern day Socrates. Makes people turn a mirror on themselves.
@GC13girl I think it is freehand just because of the size of the pieces. Too big for stencils.
@ 0:50 = The Dopest Illusion he has done in a while !
everyone is better than the last, what a person.
Banksy goes home, creates a VERY large stencil, goes up in the night, pins it up, sprays all over it, fills in details, and then takes it off.
Will they get rid of these paintings? ... I really hope they don't cause it looks amazing and it could be some valuable history.
I think the third one is on church street, near the post office, I am not sure about the others though. Hope that helps...
@TheoryGaming The first piece could be, but the second has no seam and matches the wall too well.
@Alex2149 thats what i was thinking, then i realized how large a stencil he would need, if it is him, he probably did it free hand, which is why it looks a bit odd
maybe Banksy is a 15 feet tall British man ..
I mean this Stunt is crazy. legal or not, New York never sleep, and this is absolutely cool
Is that crayon ? BTW
On the 3rd one it looks so real with the guy covering the stuff :D !
@dicko9000 tru but how did he get the cherry picker on top of a shop
Love this guy art work bro’s
HAH i like it had me eye and an idea for a bit of billboard usage
@bethanyxxx4191 robbo does do freehand work, but since he just writes his name and obsenities I dont see the comparison?

and how would you know.
legal eagle... he knows his reachable ones will get ragged in a flash in nyc
how do they know its banksy... he doesnt tag his work... so does he just have a specific style of work?
@henry4625 ??? robbo is from the uk..
Banksy was bound to have been seen, i mean its new york for gods sake!
however the meaning behind the stencil does
@Ishitoneveryone They say Banksy is Robin Gunningham, but who knows. how the HELL does he do it.. his graff dwarfs the throwups and other graff on the street 1:40 (lower right corner)
question is not how he did, but how come no one saw him do it.
this argument is gold, i am basing my extended essay on the topic to what extent is graffiti/ street art vandalism or an art/art movement. please if you dont mind, tell me you point of view and outlook on this very controversial subject. if you inbox me that will be even better. cheers.
how isnt it?
I saw the one at 0:53.. it was off Canal st.
@1:12 I giggled cause that was bad ass..
@Bdog0905 It's the same thing. It's not like street art is legal. In Banksy's own movie, he called himself a GRAFFITI artist. By the way, I don't think this is even him.

How the hell is that even possible
Is that really Banksy? They dont look like they are done with spray cans, and could he really have done that on such a large scale!
Perfection....

The one at 0:50 I thought they were acualy buffing it then i looked closer and saw it was a painting...

his work stays up and is protected because it implies a message its not just a name oh and you stencil with cardboard not paper

Yeh but he does do it that big, surely.
epic.a fucking living legend.
let me see a picture of some of your artwork because if its not better than his which i highly doubt it is than you cant judge him
@Ishitoneveryone Haha. Banksy was first in the media. Banksy wasn't the first on the street. Banksy was the last on the street.
Artists change. Develop. Its what they do, and I feel some of the humor is very much banksy. especially in the third piece. And, even if they're not? Who cares. Good art is good art.
How the fuck did he do all that with out being noticed ???
how do u know they are Banksys? they are definetely not his style, and all the references to Blek le Rat doesnt mean its him either, could be anyone.

@dicko9000 pretty sure he uses multiple pieces of stencils man....like all street artists
how the fuck does he get up there, let alone make them that big?
look at the style of it. its a bit rough. looks painted w/ a brush as opposed to stenciled on. some dude ripped banksy off hard.

Banksy took the idea of rats of Blek Le Rat and made them famous.
