See Vietnam’s Stunning Coastline by Train - Hue to Da Nang - 4K

- Our train leaves Hue’s suburbs behind, passing fish farms and rice fields on it’s way to the sea, firstly skirting the shoreline on the level before climbing the hills above the rocky coast, punctuated with deserted, pristine sandy beaches. Apart from the railway there is no sign of human habitation, just natural palm forests clinging to the hillsides above an untouched coastline. We descend back to sea level at Da Nang, here we leave the train for the short coach trip to Hoi An, stopping to see the Marble Mountains where we visit a Buddhist Pagoda and the Huyen Khong grotto. The following day we take a walking tour around Hoi An Old Town.
I am still on 13 minutes in this video, but oh my, this is heavenly, clean surroundings, lush vegetation, wonderful coastline. This is simply beautiful, beautiful beautiful. Wonderful train sounds. Hi, thanks for the thumbs up and comment. The coastline around this part of Vietnam is outstanding. I have just returned from New Zealand where I have recorded more stunning scenery. It will be a month or so before I start uploading it to TH-cam, but hopefully you will enjoy it when it is ready.

Tim, I enjoy watching your videos very much! Some, I watch two or three times to soak it in. This video provided me with valuable information about what Vietnam is, especially the countryside. The coastline with white sands and blue ocean are absolutely stunning. The only thing I knew about Vietnam was how to make fresh spring rolls. The street tour was very informative and enjoyable!!

There is just something about the "far east" that always draws me in.
I didn't expect to see so much pristine coastline, with very little human intervention, just the railway line. Those sandy beaches look so inviting. Like you I find myself wanting to return.

I saw this coast line from a us navy destroyer back in the early 60s. Vietnam is a beautiful country.
The world has changed a lot since the sixties, Vietnam is an amazing country to visit, I was surprised by the number of British back packers I met, cheap food and accommodating, coupled with plenty of sunshine was probably the reason. I followed the rail route using Google Earth to check place name spellings, I clicked on the photo icons along the railway, some of them opened amazing photos taken from the air in the sixties showing steam trains and depots along the line.

Hi Grace, I'm glad you enjoyed it, Vietnam seems to be recovering from it's recent recent unrest, the people are friendly, the country is picturesque and the food was delicious. The train was fairly long, probably around 12 carriages. The rolling stock was old and heavily used. The best sleeping carriages were pretty good although some of the day carriages had wooden seats. We were pulled by a diesel locomotive, but I don't know much about it. I would recommend the train ride to people who want to see the country and meet the people in a way that is simply not possible on an internal flight.

I forgot how beautiful Vietnam was and how kind the people were. Da Nang was the best spot for Navy and Marines. I remember the Naval hospital and the nurses who took care of us. A young ARVN soldier taught me how to play chess. I often wonder what happened to him.
Vietnam is a really interesting country, beautiful, traditional, great food and very friendly people. Throughout Vietnam and Cambodia there are tell tale signs of the recent conflict, but it doesn't hang like a shadow, people just get on with their lives, leaving the past to slip into history, some places of great significance are presented to tourists in a way that portrays some of the horrors along with fascinating stories of survival and hope, but mostly looking forward to a bright future, a truly remarkable place for many reasons. Do you still play chess?

Hi, click on this link to see the tour I was participating in when I shot this video - www.greatrail.com/tours/vietnam-cambodia-and-the-mekong-delta/ Apart from the first leg of the journey when we travelled soft sleeper, the remainder was soft seat. Be careful not to ride in a carriage covered with an advertising Vinyl, because it ruins the view from the window. A tour bus followed our train throughout the holiday, transporting our luggage and taking us from the stations to our hotels . The Marble Mountains are worth seeing if they are on your way, otherwise they are not worth a huge detour.
The view is amazing, almost the same as the nature of Indonesia, through the seafront, the Jakarta-Semarang Line for trains in Indonesia

I went looking on Google Earth for the scenery, did not use any search, but after a while i accidently noticed Hue on the map, and next to it Da Nang. I zoomed in, not knowing how i could find any details of the jurney, but when i had my screen fitting about a 50 km space, containing most of the journey, i immediately spotted the beach on 22:00. And then easily found the two bridges from 17:33. It's amazing btw what a tight curve the track must be making in the tunnel.
Google Earth is a really good tool for following railways. I use it a lot to help me find and spell place names. I nice to know you followed the route on Google Earth, it helps to complete the picture.

I did Da Nang to Hue via the coast & through the "new tunnel" going back. I'm back in Vietnam in August thinking that train maybe a good option.
Hi, I travelled by train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in four stages. The best part of the trip was Da Nang to Hue, the view from the window towards the sea was stunning.

Beautiful railway line with very picturesque vegetation. Is any of the line continuos rail on concrete ties. I would think this would be necessary with the climate and moisture of the region.
Hi, the scenery was beautiful, enhanced by the tropical vegetation. The sleepers were mainly concrete and there were not many sections of continuous welded track, most of it was jointed as is evident in the sound track.
