    Another video to help clarify how to add frames to the hive so the bees will draw straight comb when using no foundation.
    It can be daunting when the bees draw all kinds of cross comb but following this method most instances of cross comb are alleviated.
    Natural honeycomb is free of chemical residues known to be in commercial foundation.
    It tastes better in comb honey.
    It allows bees to completely be bees!
    I have been keeping treatment free bees since 2003 and run over 100 hives.

    A little knowledge goes a long way, :}
    Apis mellifera is not native to the Americas, so it was not present when the European explorers and colonists arrived. However, other native bee species were kept and traded by indigenous peoples. In 1622, European colonists brought the German honey bee (A. m. mellifera) to the Americas first, followed later by the Italian honey bee (A. m. ligustica) and others. Many of the crops that depend on western honey bees for pollination have also been imported since colonial times. Escaped swarms (known as "wild" honey bees, but actually feral) spread rapidly as far as the Great Plains, usually preceding the colonists. Honey bees did not naturally cross the Rocky Mountains; they were transported by the Mormon pioneers to Utah in the late 1840s, and by ship to California in the early 1850s.

    Good Video and you have the right idea, but let me make a suggestion or two. Don't center all the frames. Push them all against the warmer wall. That will help the last frame stay straight and tight. Also, use your NUCs to build comb, and use the pulled frame to boost a production hive. The NUCs will build out the comb faster that a NUC put into a 10 frame hive. Keep at it.

      +Beekeeping From Scratch I don't center the frames. The frame against the wall is left empty so they will draw it straight and give some room. I am in South Mississippi so every wall is the warm wall😜. Yes, I agree nucs draw faster but this vid was for those who want to put their nuc in a 8/ 10 frame. Nucs are machines!!😍

      @@buttsbeesllc4063 I was watching you put the last frame in the box and it looked like you centered the frames instead of smashing them all to one side. Maybe you pushed them back to the side after video ended. Thanks for the reply.

    This is crazy! The bees are so loud!

    I was told by an old timer that you will have less problem with cross combing if you orient your hives so the frames run north/south, whether this is true or not I don't know.

      I have heard this too! Also if it is tipped too much BUT I have not had nor seen this 👀 but maybe my bees are just smarter than the average bee!✊️😉

    Did you see the queen at arpund 1:20 walking around on the frame, walked right beneath your thumb at 1:35.🙂

      @buttsbeesllc4063 thank you, I wouldn't call myself good at queen spotting, but have had a little bit of practice. I've been hobby beekeeping most of the time, as my situation allowed, since my school days. I'm from South Africa and the bees here seem to be more feisty, so I always work with them with full protective clothing, I guess I'm not as brave as some other beekeepers.

      @@SurvivorBees_DavidBlag100 Even with foundation you can get cross comb. In an unoccupied space the heat can warp or drop comb or foundation. I have had great luck with empties, but each swarm queen is different.

    Susan, will they build worker comb on a foundationless frame if you put it next to a plastic frame that is not drawn out? Trying to incorporate some foundationless into my hives, Thanks.

    • @buttsbeesllc4063
      @buttsbeesllc4063  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Linda, I would think they might if the other frame is drawn worker with brood in it. In any case some will drawn drone no matter what on the first attempts at getting them to do all their own work, the plastic frame will serve as a follower board. hope that helps! Try it!!

    • @bradgoliphant
      @bradgoliphant 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey all. Just making beekeepers aware that plastic foundation blocks "vibrational communication links" between the bees. Bees use Vibrational Codes to tell if there are cells that have brood, cells that are full of honey or empty, and all this is broken when you add plastic into a beehive. Just a love note I want to pass along.

    • @buttsbeesllc4063
      @buttsbeesllc4063  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree and it is important to not knock down the brace comb just because you can. It to increases communication and helps distribute queen pheromone in the hive!

      @bradgoliphant 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@buttsbeesllc4063 I love that. Your referring to the burr comb right? I agree, we need to leave that for travel and communication. Thank you

    • @buttsbeesllc4063
      @buttsbeesllc4063  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brace comb is the comb built between the frames like bridges, burr comb may be the same just I think of burr as comb built on top of frames when given xtra room. Either way wax is key in communication!!
