This song is timeless. One of the most underrated songs of all time.
Cody Chenoweth top 10 fav in my life indeed, I’m glad I’m not alone in this thinking .
Agreed! The last part of the song where she bellows out “I’m not angry anymooooooore” always floors me
Just the right amount of raspy smoky goodness in her voice.
Her voice is just so freakin good. I’d vote one of if not the best female “rock” singer of that era
Best!?! Easy. I completely agree that she is one of the best, but certainly not THE best. Ann Wilson owns the crown.
A woman singing about the real world and playing bass guitar. Works for me. Well done on many levels.
She's not actually playing the bass line you hear on the recording. Not sure why that is but I started playing about 6 years before this was filmed for TV and she's not playing it with constant picking. I have covered this and the footage was confusing till I concluded watching her was of no help. th-cam.com/video/wrryCiT4DxA/w-d-xo.html&lc=z22msdrz5lqzjfxmzacdp43bqfo3j5efghp1pnp0ufxw03c010c
@@SanitysVoid So what? The most important is somewhere else, not in an only way of thinking, like you do😎
This song is hauntingly beautiful. There is something flawlessly honest this.
Jonette is a goddess ! Her pipes and that band are straight up badass ! Love Concrete Blonde
You can tell she's battling her own demons, I absolutely love this woman and her amazing voice!!
Yup my best friend sent me this song back when i was doing everything possible to destroy myself
You are right. I saw them twice in late 80s and early 90s. First show in Chicago, she passed out on stage. Second show in Pittsburgh, she was sober and a fitness junkie and was great on stage. It was great to see the change.
Nothing like stating the obvious. Kingpin was also trying to say that she may also have her own demons (reflected in the song)@@Bobble86
Her voice is just so honest and haunting. And can we give some love to James Mankey for his ultra unique guitar sound? Amazing music from them for so many years.
They were just one of those bands where the disparate elements shouldn’t have worked but damned if it didn’t James is a very creative guitar player. Using chords and chord melodies instead of the usual power chords. I always liked the parts he wrote
His riffs are so subtle and his solo's are just so smooth. Nothing over the top. Very unique style.
Her voice is absolutely amazing and POWERFUL. Everytime I hear her sing this song, I'm covered in goosebumps.
You are right there. Another one that has that effect on me is Heal it Up.
My Dad has a drinking problem and this song helped me forgive him.
My mum was a high functioning but dire alcoholic. Her drunken abuse and violence toward me as a child and adolescent saw Community Services get involved.
I understand now that she was self medicating her pain and that underneath she had a depressive mental illness. I sensed her deep seeded pain as a small child and on the inside I felt sorry for her as she'd slam my head into the wall, grab me by the hair so I couldn't move my head as she close-fist punched me in the face, smashed an empty glass bottle over my head, the lot.
I guess I'm still stuffed up because of it even though she's been dead 10 years but I never really blamed her for it either.
@@ngdukic Im really sorry that you went thru that Nick. I know a bit about alcoholics, being a recovering 1 and having an abusive alcoholic dad. Forgiveness has helped me alot tho it took awhile finding it...good luck
@@ngdukic hey Nick...me again. BC I drank I was a bad mom. Been sober for few yrs but still cant forgive myself. My daughter still seldom talks to me. So much damage I did. I didnt choose to be an alcoholic but I did choose to drink. I sure hope u are doing better these days
Her voice so fkn beautifully thunderous, powerful, emotional and gripping ❤️
Love every bit of this song!
My favorite part is towards the end, the last time she bellows out “I’m not angry anymooooooooooooooore!!!”
@@MartyMcFly88 lol, and you know she totally is. Anger is this woman's spirit animal. :-)
I was with her in the beginning of time. She is my all time favorite singer.........She freaking rocks. She had an antique shop or a friend of hers did in Silver Lake so she decided to play just her and the guitarist in their driveway. Little by little people were showing up. It was freaking great. Awwww the good ole days
@@georgeroughneck9877 man do i remember the silver inn kinda my stomping grounds lived on holly Dr for a bit and had a place on 4th ave that's when mill creek was new had a band called swift current
Her voice is brilliant.... lyrics are brilliant.. what more could you as for. ❤️
Damn she can really sing! great song
Johnette Napolitano born Sept 22, 1957 in Hollywood Los Angeles, California
Such a great voice..
The Immortal; Johnette Napolitano...
She has a real voice, not a squeaking lil chick.
So so underrated
You're my kind of dude. I've done that a few handfuls of times, when my drunk stoned buds didn't wanna do shit. And everytime I've done it, it was almost better than if they'd they came cuz I was just 110% focused on the show. All that said, the 1x I saw Concrete Blonde, EVERYONE showed up, even from long distances, and it was totally awesome.
@@davidallen346 I've gone solo every time I've seen Tool. No one that I know cares for them.
Tough subject matter, great lyrics, and haunting voice have made this song timeless. I was 16 when it hit the airwaves in 1990, and it has always been a favorite of mine. Johnette can wail and when you write your own words about real life relationships and then sing them, it just hits different and no one can else can mimic it.
Very well said! One of my all-time favorites I fell in love in 1990 in San Diego and it reminds me of that relationship. We still still talk to this day and just mentioned this song to him tonight because it was played in the Netflix series brand new cherry flavor. A favorite for sure!❤
Felt this as a single mom. My husband left us to go drink he's been gone for months I beg and cry for him to come back but he never does. 😔 felt this song in my soul
That voice of hers, so powerful, magic
This song and this lady is so amazing...65 and I still love it!!
Both of my best buddies that I used to love listening to this song with have sadly passed. I cherish the awesome memories that I have when hearing this tune. Thanks for the memories. 😢❤✌🇨🇦💔
I haven't heard this song in years, and man, does it resonate!
What a voice! So much power yet she looks like its effortless. This song is from the album "Bloodletting" and it's just another good song amongst lots of great tunes...time for another listen!
God, I miss real music! One of my favorite songs ever.
Same here. Today's mainstream "music" is garbage. "Joey" was art made by artists.
I think currently Five Finger Death Punch brings out realness similar to this.
Johnette has never been given her due, IMO. She's right up there with the likes of Ann Wilson and Janice Joplin in terms of all-time great female rock vocalists. I consider it a sin that few people have heard of Johnette Napolitano, but EVERYBODY knows Britney f***ing Spears.
Britney has talent, it's just the material that she sings that's light. You're right about Johnette not being given her due, she clearly has an AWESOME voice.
@D Mills Not many artists can pump out great songs for years, hell some cannot even for one year so the staying power thing i'm not so sure about. Her voice is one of the best
I think her voice is better than those you mentioned but they are all amazing
What a great song and what a wonderful voice she has
Still playing this in 2024
Love how this portrays loving someone struggling through addictions her voice is so beautiful and just sits with the lyrics and the beat itself truly a ART in a song.
This is one of the best live voices I have ever heard.
Funny how 1990 can feel so far away and at the same time feel like yesterday . Concrete Blonde kinda got past me ... definitely a band that deserves some listen time . Great post ... thank you !
Guy Fawkes-Day I hear you my brother and I know exactly how you feel . Fortunately music is something we can always fall back on to make us feel better . Sounds like music has played a big part of your life, as it has mine . I'll be 58 in 30 days from today . Where to hell did the time go ? Good to talk with you ... take care & keep rockin !
One of the most powerful female singers I have ever seen live.
Pure talent, singing about a drunk, doesn’t get any better.
beautiful song,and beautiful woman
Good god, what a voice! And her "look" is perfect - kind of punk-y with the black hair and goth makeup, but offset by the floral dress and cute hat.
This song will always remind me of when I first came to Australia to live, 1990. Excellent talent she is
What a great song and band. Wonderful singer.
Truly a gifted singer and underrated.
Takes me back to a hurtful time yet it does me good. Great song and voice
Great vocalist...guitarist has great tone. All adds up to a good tune!!!
My baby was killed and this song makes think of her always 💔 ❤️ ♥️ 💙 💕 💗 love the words only found this few weeks ago keeping it a live now for all the people
Amazingly beautiful woman, and awesome singer, song.
The summer of 1990. What a year.
August 1990 was headed for Saudi Arabia for 7-8 months of living in a fucking barren wasteland. Would do it again in a heartbeat!
5/8 FAR XVIII Abn. Corps. Ft. Bragg, NC.
Yeah......what a year!
Perfect.....!!!!!
Easily one of my Top 10 all time songs. Her voice is awesome.
Damn. What a voice!
Her voice is Perfect for this song; this song is Perfect for her voice! I can’t imagine anyone else attempting to cover ‘Joey’ after hearing Concrete Blonde mesmerize.
Great voice with a great song.
Wow 46 now. listened to them when I was 13. Guess the next time I'll be listening is almost on my death bed :( be good to everyone :)
Johnette...and "Joey" was always a heartbreaker, so easy to relate to. A masterclass in what performance is all about.
I'll Hail to this awessome goddess!
She's awesome and will always be
This band and song are timeless
This song live IS OFF THE CHAIN !!!!!!!! this is what real music is not the bull shit out in the last 15 years ...her voice is so silky smooth like glass
they Are miming.... it sounds exactly the same as the album... who is playing the guitar overdubs??
@@marksteigerfulright! The people who had to watch this got robbed. Concrete blonde is absolutely amazing live. The fact that the show made them mime to their own song is a tragedy
I just love that, great strong voice.
When you hear a song & it takes you a lifetime away with raw emotion! 😢😭
One of best songs ever from the past 💕
Brings me right back to being 20 years old in 1990. I remember this song very well and this is the first time I’ve heard it in over 20 years. I still love it.
Flawlessly amazing gut wrenching emotional an timeless
Such an amazing voice, never get tired of hearing her sing.
A great song
the most underated female voice....so talented i had my cd i love it
Beautifully sung.
Great Voice!!! Such an emotional song.
Love every bit of this song!
Still as incredible to me as it was over 30 years ago. So Many great songs on Bloodletting and I never get tired of them
One of the best songs ever! U can feel the pain...
This one got past me in the 90's but I am here now.
I'm 41 and still listening. Great underrated song. Fell in love with it when it came out when I was 13.
Just looking back at my playlist I downloaded years ago in a stagnant moment time in life but I’m kind of glad ❤❤👊
The best in alternative music. Appreciate the awesome talent
Débora, you were my “ Joey”.
I miss you. I wish your “secret war” hadn’t claimed you in April of 90. 💔
I think we all have our "Joey". I hope you have given yours a nice place in your heart 🍀
Every fabric of this song and this epic live performance is absolutely PERFECTION!!!! Do I understand?……. PERFECTION!🔥🏆🎤💐
One of my absolute favorites.
She had such a great voice I agree with you these guys were awesome I wished I could have seen them in concert but I never got the chance Rock on
This song comes up recommended all the time.....I never resist watching...Outstanding performance of a great song. Until next time.....
I loved her voice then, love it now!
Song of my life.
One of my favourite bands and Johnette's voice was so haunting!
Greatest female singer ever......hands down ! Powerful and unique.
This song is timeless. One of the most underrated songs of all time.
My Dad has a drinking problem and this song helped me forgive him.
Heard this song for the first time today and ive been in awe all day about how this song is a complete and utter masterpiece
She had the most pure voices of that time!!!!
She still gives the chills this much in time.
I can't listen to this song without crying. Gets me every damn time!
LOVE this song. Still awesome 30+ years later.
Damn, Damn, I can listen to this over and over and over again. And I do......
Great video.....
One of the songs of my life, from the early 90's always breaks mu heart
Absolutely beautiful song! Can never get enough of it! 👏❤️❤️❤️
I always appreciate it when artists make their live performances sound just like the song on the radio.
Johnette's voice closes my eyes and takes me on heavenly voyages.
Her voice is powerful and Angelic.
She is a Goodess of Rock. I'd love to hear more by her
Jon Blake they made a great album..i think in 2003..Mojave...i have at least 10 of their/her cds...
Love this band back in day. She can still bring it.
SEEN THEM SEVERAL TIMES.. Stateside and in Australia.. Perfect every time.. That woman can sing, and James is simply amazing to watch play..
A perfect song to hear over and over...
Beautiful
One of the most beautiful written songs ever... glad to hear this again.
I love this song i listen to it every morning cup of coffee.
Beautiful, just beautiful but admittedly breaks my heart too xxx
Possibly the most criminally underrated singer and band on Earth....
