That bit at the end has me howling with laughter every time I watch Insurrection. Brent Spiner is a brilliant comic actor, he doesnt overplay it, its perfect.
I love how it shows how Data has really grown to understand and interact with his crewmates. It should be remembered he doesn't have his emotion chip during this mission. I don't think he would figure it proper to ask to touch Riker's chin during their first seven years.
In the unrated porn parody, Riker gets to feel Data’s bottom for comparison and they ask the doctor for her opinion and you can guess what happens next in sickbay…
They all let Data do things they wouldn't let others do. Most of the time it helps Data understand something. This was clearly Riker having fun knowing Data might take it seriously.
@@Ash_Rein IMHO, for two reasons: 1. The stakes are quite low here Makes it seem like an extended TNG episode. 2. It had to follow "First Contact" which is easily one of the top 3 Trek movies. Personally, I like it. Not the best Trek movie, but far from the worst (looking at you, Into Darkness).

Watching all these ST: Insurrection clips that TH-cam suddenly recommended to me. And boy, do I ADORE this movie! And I remember how much I loved it the first time I saw it in theaters. The character/actor chemistry and the humor is so brilliant. Frakes' direction is perfect. After 10 years of serving together, they have grown into a family. The only joke that does not go well is the boob joke. Everything else is just wonderful.

It’s funny that people call this a weak entry. I am much more of TOS man myself and I loved this film. It had those little nuances of character development that made TOS so special.
I find that where the "bad" Trek movies really shine is in their character moments. See: Chekov and Sulu "getting lost in a blizzard", for instance. Yeah Final Frontier is kind of weak plot-wise, but the interactions between the crew are gold. Insurrection is the same way.

They've done this a bunch of times. The Enterprise-A's transporter room and main engineering sections seen in Star Trek 6 were redresses of the Enterprise-D's transporter and main engineeting sections. In fact, if I recall correctly, the Enterprise-D's Battle Bridge is a redress of the main bridge of the Enterprise-A as seen in Star Trek IV.

No shade towards his directing work, but Jonathan Frakes should definitely appear in more films and TV series (NON-"Star Trek"-related, of course), both with AND without his beard (he has made several post-"TNG" TV appearances without it). Between the end of the first season of TNG and "Insurrection", Frakes' face had fleshed out enough to allow for him to switch between going with and without his beard. All the same, with or without it, he still looks gorgeous.
there's a scene in an early TNG episode "Datalore" where data, geordi, & riker are standing in front of a locker full of android bodyparts & lore's butt is on full display.
It's a minor niggle for me that Data never had the ability to understand common English phrases when he could memorise and reference entire libraries of information. It always seemed like a cheap laugh for Data to misunderstand a phrase and for the crew to explain it to him. The other one is how he gives wayyy too much detail and he has to be stopped in every episode. 'How long until we get to the nearest starbase'...'at current speed it will take 3 days, 7 hours, 42 minutes, 3....' 'that's enough Data'.... Even pocket calculators know how to round up.
Never bothered me, for the most part Data always took things at face value and was extremely detail oriented. He always gave all the information he had regardless if it was neccessary.
Idioms and metaphors are cultural similar to slang also it's determined by class and status and you have to admit very few of these would come up in everyday conversation even over 10 years or so
I'd see it as... like how you can be highly proficient in a foreign language, but still miss idioms specific to the culture. Plus, data was made a long time ago. Idioms can change a lot in that time. I would imagine the people in star trek don't speak the same English we do. Just compare middle English to modern English, it's totally different. I like to think it's just being "translated" for us as viewers. So, all this is to say, data may simply... not have heard the expression before. It's not in his databanks.
It's only because we comprehend and understand (our cultural) idioms that we think it's so simple. In his case, he takes words at face value, for their definitions. So saying "theres more than one way to skin a cat" he would definitely wonder what the hell that means. How does it apply? More than one way to skin a cat? Why skin a cat? Who skins cats? But to those familiar with it, understand it simply means there's more than one way to do things. We take this understanding for granted, as our brains are wired to find alternate meanings in phrases and words. His neural net was never built to do such a task, so it's more difficult.
I hated how these movies made such weak attempts to get Worf back on the ship, and the way they wrote his character clashed so hard with how he was being written on DS9.
First contacts attempt was quite good obviously as explained in DS9 the Defiant was built to counter the Borg threat and worf had more experience with the Borg than sisko so made perfect sense just a shame they didn’t include a few more defiant class ships as we know more were built,insurrections attempt could have been better like the enterprise was near DS9 and worf stopped in on vacation instead to see the crew maybe could have expanded on that and brought chief obrien along with him perhaps
Well, Insurrection also took place shortly after the Dominion War. Worf was less tied down then esp as he was debating whether to stay in Starfleet or take up Martok's offer. Nemesis was definitely the bad one, though. Dorn had actually told of actually feeling like a fifth wheel in that movie. Might have been good to have an excuse of having the Defiant II being part of the fleet Enterprise was supposed to join up with, and breaking ranks to come help the E when she didn't arrive when expected. But it happened as it did, and I still enjoyed the movie even though it got a rookie director.
@@samsonguy10k think your mixing your films up insurrection took place durning the dominion war nemesis was after and when the enterprise was supposedly to rendezvous with its fleet plus I think you’ll find the enterprise was several hours away from meeting up with its fleet so they wouldn’t have realised there was an issue until a long time after the battle had taken place but I see where ya coming from but he would likely have been a guest at timers wedding so that was always a valid way to get him in the film at the start

Nemesis deliver the killing blow to tng movie series but downfall started with thia film. I had great respect for Rick Berman and co they did great trek tv shows but they shouldnt be handling the movies its beyond their skill set.

I think part of the problem is we had great movie length TNG Eps that the movies were hard pressed to match.

This was the best Star Trek film... when I saw it in the cinema (1996) it cured a hangover. No other film (of any description) ever did that.
