  • See the whole flight from Singapore to New York Newark on SQ22. It s the longest commercial passenger flight of the world, operated by an all-business-class Airbus A340-500. From Changi to New York the flight time was about 18hours. As we wanted to depart we had a technical problem with the TCAS, so we went to the gate again, waited there about three hours to depart again. We then got a new routing, directly going over the northpole. See the whole flight - PAssenger announcements, Takeoff, climb, descent, Landing, all the meals, the business-class of Singapore Airlines, window-views and all the atmosphere this memorable flight had.... Enjoy!
    Aircraft was A340-500, 9V-SGE

    Actually, that was a fascinating initial 25 minutes drive around the airport. I admit I fast forwarded, but nevertheless, gave a real feel for the situation and the surrounding traffic. I am still trying to grapple with 18 hours in the air. Air travel has come a long way since we first flew the Atlantic in 1971, in the very early age of the 747. I still remember looking out our window seat and watching the huge engines swaying back and forth on take off. Wanted to also note the landing footage was great, with the shadow converging in across the highways as the plane set down, one heck of a smooth landing, kudos to the captain.

    • @Bellakelpie
      @Bellakelpie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@iamr4mi Your comment re the dates got me to go look through my records ( kept for tax purposes) and yes, I made a mistake with the year. In 2001 I flew to the USA via Frankfurt on a Singapore Airlines B747-400, and returned via the U.S. West Coast on a United AirlinesB747-400.( never again😉 There is no comparison between the two airlines frankly.) I visited the U.S.A again in 2006, flying to and from on the flights I mentioned in my 1st reply. Thank you for prodding me into going back over my own records. One’s memory does lose accuracy over time. And your statement re the A349-500’s service with SQ is correct. The first configuration was a mixed Business/Premium Economy lay out, with the latter starting at the emergency exit door just behind the wing trailing edge. Later, after declaring that they were losing money on the route, Singapore Airlines removed the Premium Economy seating and replaced it with more Business Class seats. And up went the airfare for that service. Even when I flew on it, there was a $500 surcharge over the return Singapore to Los Angeles 1 stop (via Tokyo) B747-400 service. Anyway, as we know, the airline announced that even after making their 5 A340-500’s all Business, it was still losing money on the 2 non stop U.S. routes, closed the services down, and disposed of the aircraft. A claim validated by Thai International , who also operated the type on a Bangkok to New York JFK non stop service , and Emirates. Both airlines saying that they were designed when fuel “was at $25-30 and by the time of their retirement, it was $120…and could never be profitable at that fuel price.” ( Sir Tim Clarke, CEO of Emirates.) A fair comment. 😊

    They replaced sq21 with sq25 . So instead of flying directly from newjersey to singapore it takes of from jfk to frankfurt and after a short stop it flyes to singapore . Its 17465 kilometers . 2 thousand km more than sq 21 but with one stop . I like this one better . More airmiles more rewards!!

      Eren Yeager SQ has a deal with Airbus. The airline is adding several A380s and A350s to its fleet, but the older A345's are essentially traded in (Airbus takes them back). They simple do not have the efficiency airlines want.

    Since 1 March 2016, the longest non-stop scheduled airline flight is Emirates flight EK448 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Auckland, New Zealand, and its return flight EK449, at 14,200 kilometers (7,700 nmi). On 2 February 2017, Qatar Airways will begin nonstop flights between Doha and Auckland, making this flight the longest in the world. The flight covers 14,536 kilometers (7,849 nmi) and will be operated by Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

      have you seen, when this video was filmed and published? WHICH was the longest nonstop commercial flight at that time? You really want us to correct video headlines years after? Why can you all not think for a minute before nagging around?!

    • @debasishde107

      I have seen whatever you wrote and and that's the reason I started with the sentence .. SINCE 1 MARCH, 2016 ... ....... Oh!, neither i am nagging here nor I am arguing that it was the longest flight but the fact : now both the flight routes SQ21 and SQ22 were dropped and I just wanted to update people about that (which you should at a later date after uploading your video). However, once again, It is indeed an amazing video. Thank you.

      Anuxi The 300ER suffers from short range even though it has one of the most powerful engines in the passenger jet industry. The GE90-115Bs have enough range but a bit too little for comfort since almost all flights have enough fuel for another 1-2 hours of flight after landing.

    I've been wondering, how serious is the risk of vein thrombosis on a flight this long? I've heard stories about it striking frequent fliers on long-haul flights. Longest flight of my life was over 14 hours from LAX to Hong Kong. I felt a little tired but otherwise fine after getting off the plane.

    • @JustinLHopkins
      @JustinLHopkins 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DVT is a substantial risk on these flights. A little bit of trivia for you. These flights had a special compartment in the case of an onboard death. The long flight time is very hard on the body and with relatively few airports to land in case of emergency, this compartment was needed. It was installed on all the planes making this flight.

    • @visionist7
      @visionist7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this particular plane all seats had direct aisle access, and the seats were very large. Greatly reduces the risk.

    Really sad that this route is gone. Even if there are a large number of pax that would want to fly this route or similar ones, it would never be profitable. The fuel cost itself is sky high. Flying with 4 engines is NOT efficient even if the maximum range of the aircraft is that long (which is why most airlines are now opting for the 77L/W against the A345/6). Most passengers are not willing to pay that much for a flight which is that long if it is not economy (All SQ A345's flying to Newark were configured to have only business class available.) and SQ would have to charge for the price of first class of their other routes for every business class seat in that flight and no one in their right mind would sit in economy class for that long which is why SQ opted for only business class seats.

    Enjoyed it, but there was alot of stuff you could have done away with and made the video much shorter and enjoyable. Instead I had to keep fast forwarding through 10-15 minute segments of nothing happening. Like the beginning for instance, you could have probably cut out 30 minutes of the taxi way stuff. I could be wrong, but I dont think anyone wants to see that.
