i dont think any of us can ever truly cpmprehend the magnitude of this story of survival. thr sheer mental strength this man must posess is astounding. i wish him a long and happy life. he truly deserves it
This is the most incredible story of survival ever. This man endured what could be considered the greatest ever testament to man's will to survive in the worst conditions imaginable. God was watching over this man no doubt. Excellent video. Pray this man has a happy and gratifying life.
I remember this case. I seem to recall that in the wake of his rescue, there were some allegations that his story was unbelievable, that it really wasn't as long as he alleged, and that he actually had more supplies to ensure his survival instead of the dearth of supplies he claimed was the case. I don't know what ever happened to these allegations or how the story ended. As for myself, I am a believer in his miraculous tale of survival.
I read this story about five years ago. I grew up on the water and was a commercial fishermen for many years. The oceans are very dangerous. But this guy and his helper went out fishing when a front was coming through and it made fishing excellent but the sad thing is 1400 lbs of fish was only going to pay him $250 …but one thing you never do is change the name of a boat.. it’s very bad luck and when he purchased his boat after he had it ready he changed the name of the vessel the day before he went out.. call me superstitious but if you ask any real fisherman they would probably tell you the same
I really enjoyed the presentation of this. Well written and great narration. I could’ve listened to this for an hour. I would have loved to hear more about this story. Great job though!
So he knew a storm was coming and decided to go out anyways. In a small boat no less. This really sounds like he did this to himself and if he had played it safe he would of been fine. Always pay attention to storm paths on radar and any storm warnings in the area for that day. Unless you're in a massive commercial fishing vessel that can handle it and even then i would be nervous of any storms. Hell of a story we got out of it though so thanks to him in a way.
You seem to forget that you are dealing with another culture, an unsophisticated culture void of most of the conveniences and resources that you and I take for granted in everyday life. These poorer fishermen don't have a lot, so the drive to continue fishing in the face of approaching storms isn't as big a deal to them as it is for us. We're dealing with a completely different mindset hers with a different outlook on life and a propensity to live "outside of the box". Be thankful for you have. Many, many others aren't as lucky as you are.
Ive never seen a man change so much in appearance .He went from looking Nigerian when he first set sail, then months later to a thin white man ,then when rescued he appeared over an weight hispanic ,to then a year later arabic..The sea will do that to you
14 months at sea is pretty incredible. It makes me dubious as to how he was able to survive for most of it on his own and with limited food. Has anyone questioned whether or not his story of Cordova is the truth? He could have eaten him for sustenance.
thats exactly what i thought...everything that has to do with him and cordova is pure speculation for all we know...maybe they both became crazy because of the heat and lack of food and fought
I've owned my 14ft solo skiff for 3 years now. Two of my best friends own there own solo skiffs. Three times a year we do a 3 to 4 night, fun fishing and camp trips on different islands. All three of our boats are setup similar. We all carry air horns, flare guns, VHF radios, A emergency dry bag with a tarp for shelter, spare water, dry foods, dry clothes, all we need to start fires, survival gear, we each carry a legal firearm for protection. We all run a rear gas motor and bow electric motor, with charging ports on the hull for charging cell phones, Drones, and anything electronic. I go out usually 3 days a week, and I enjoy it. At the same time weather I go out for 6 hrs or do a 3 day trip, all of the most important survival gear is stored inside my vessel. All these stories are sad, but I keep seeing people not prepared. Never cheap out on your communication to the outside world, especially in the ocean. Always prepare for something to go wrong. These are our hobbies, but they're adventure's. purchase everything you need for your hobby. boating, hiking, mtn climbing. God bless us all who have our planned adventures.
You are so cool for 😅knowing, understanding and sharing the most important aspect of it all; don’t screw around by not being totally prepared…… because You may have to have it all or else !!!
@@TheScotian82You got a point there but I reckon an emergency solar radio / torch that flashes an SOS if need be, is an absolute must. Even a cheap windup radio torch would have been handy. At night an SOS light could probably be seen from space. These things are not prohibitively expensive.

I agree, it’s total bs. So many things don’t make any sense at all. Look up the survival story of Steve Callahan. That actually happened and is amazing.
You die of thirst not lack of food. It takes about three days before you die of dehydration. You can last without food for about 60-90 days depending on how must reserves your body has ?
Part of the story I never hear brought up is that the family of his friend Cordova had tried to get him prosecuted. They said that they believed he killed and ate Cordova to stay alive. I don't remember what proof that they had, if any, but they 100% thought that was what happened. I was really intrigued with this story at the time, so I was following it.

So already only a couple of minutes in. There are so holes in this story.. ... Aaaaaaaand ... When they found him, he was fat? Look at those pictures. WTF?

One of the greatest stories of survival at sea
Thank you for sharing this man's incredible survival story.
To survive at sea for that long is incomprehensible. The human spirit and will are incredibly powerful at times.
This is one the best lost at sea story. It is also very well written and presented. Awesome job!!!

This story has a good book to read too. 438 Days, as I recall.
Written by Jonathon Franklin. I have a copy on my bookshelf.

Thanks for the video.
I am glad that you liked it.
They did say at the beginning they tried but broke the pull chord but sure they tried as much as they could. You’d have to outta boredom alone
I was gonna say with that much time how could you not try and fix the engine for something to do alone.
great narration and video. Thanks for creating
Props to the cameraman/drone operator guy that was able to get some great pictures
