I have a true story about 30 years a bob smith went bear hunting on bear island or kodiak island , went with guides hunted for at least a week or more , Every day they flew food in. The tent was surrounded with lumber stacked all the way up to at least 8 feet so the bears don't knock down your tents and maybe kill you .the bears were just coming out of winter sleep both men got bears . There Is more to the story ,but what happened on the dock at the plane as they were getting ready to leave, they see a man yelling to them as he gets close he breaks down crying. He was left on the island by plane and was never picked up. He was on the island alone for at least a week. had to walk the coast or walk across It. Never did hear If the pilot died or whatever , maybe RETOLD can look into It , I think It would be a great story. If you want I can give you more info from his son i know where they live.
Every single time you go in the woods for even a day hike you need the 5 c’s. Every time. Cutting tool, metal container, combustion device, cover element still, and cordage as well as a little bit of skill would have made his week a lot more comfortable. That stuff can save your life. Carry it.
It's idiotic to march into remote bushland without carrying at the very minimum some water proof fire starter, shelter tarp, rope, knife, food for a few days, metal pot, water purification tablets, bear spray, warm hat, leather gloves, fish hooks and line. A gun w plenty ammunition if available
You can live a long time without food but only three days without water. Jehovah had his back all along. But God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But along with the temptation he will also make the way out so that you may be able to endure it. 'Jehovah' is the God that Jesus worshipped and prayed to. His father.
@@claire_A-T If you're stranded in remote bush, you will need the energy required for gathering firewood, maintaining body heat if its cold, fending off predators, maintaining your shelter and other chores associated with survival. So a regular intake of calories can be the difference between life and death.

You dont go anywhere in Alaska without being prepared. Go to the woods and build a giant fire and shelter. If your worried about animals, climb a tree or find a cave, or something. You have a rifle, and nobody goes hunting there without large caliber, so get food with it. Salt water is usually plentiful with muscles, and other edibles along the shoreline. There are also edible plants and grass is one of them. You are just sitting around waiting on rescue anyway, so make use of you time and take care of priorities first. Shelter, fire, water and then food in that order. After that, concentrate on signaling for help with fire, written signs in the sand, etc. while keeping up on the other priorities as needed. Try not to sweat and keep exercise to a minimal if possible That way you can conserve calories if you are low on food, and keep from getting hypothermia from being wet from sweat.

You notice the boat anchored and the kayak? Apparently not. They were there for day hunting, not camping. Their supplies would be in the boat, not dragged ashore to hunt in a area just several acres big. Also, the boat is anchored. Why? Because each boat has a berth depth. You can't just ride up on shore, hence the kayak. Drowning? People drown all the time. Experienced people. Water, ice cold, sends you into hypothermia shock within minutes, quicker if you're inadequately prepared for the submersion. You also have river currents.
Agreed. There are so many things that could have helped, and small enough to carry in pockets. And I can't help but wonder why wouldn't a person create something to make themselves more visible from the air? Like spelling SOS with tree limbs, or even a large X? If he had had a decent survival knife (don't know that he did) then he could have cut some small pine trees down and made a raft to get to the boat, which was only half a mile away in a calm river estuary (not open sea).

Your idea almost certainly would have gotten him killed or swept out in the ocean where he would have died for sure. Staying put near the anchored boat was the smartest thing he could have done. Could he have done more while waiting for help to better his situation ? I believe he could have done more to live more comfortably while waiting but building a raft with a knife and trying to get out to the boat would literally have been the dumbest thing he could have possibly done period. Third, you need to keep your body above the waterline when the water is just above freezing. Four, you need to have to have some way of steering the "raft" which is not aerodynamic like a normal boat. Five? Sailing is not a option. You need winds that blow into the direction you're headed. I am glad his story was retold, emphasizing the man's faith. AS I believe God took good care of him, giving him the stamina to survive. WE often go through storms in our lives. God does not promise us an easy life, the Bible is riddled with stories of the His people who had difficult times. God promises is this: that if we are grateful, and thankful, even in the worst of circumstances, and reach out to Him for help--that He will provide, and He will not leave us alone. So the rain provided drinking water, and the winds blew the boat out into shipping lanes to be spotted. While on the face of it, it seemed cruel and difficult, God provided ahead of time, that tree, which could be used for limited shelter, a place to gather water, and place to hide from predators. When his strength finally gave out, he just could not go anymore--God made sure He was rescued, because even in what he thought were his last moments, he did not blame God, but was grateful and thankful for his family, and his life. This is the type of faith it takes to survive the storms of life. This IS the type of faith described in the Bible for which God's saints survive--as listed in Hebrews chapter 11. I can personally tesify that while MY own life has been filled with ups and downs and losing jobs, and losing places to live, God has never abandoned me personally. Today, I am blessed and very grateful to have a bed to sleep in, food to eat, and a roof over my head. While most people would not consider me sucessful in life, by God's standard--I am living well, even if in poverty. I am helping others to remain housed as a housing advocate. I pray for many as a prayer warrior too. May God bless those who watch this episode. As I found it very inspiring!

On the surface this video seems interesting, then it just dissolves into farce. As other have said, the tree line would have been the best bet; I think that many people in Alaska live in such ease and comfort frightened by fairy tales that when faced with a threat they wilt like candy floss in a childs mouth.

This guy wouldn’t know what to do with that stuff if he had it anyway.

In that context, food becomes essential. And you cannot afford to stay idle because there's no knowing when rescue will happen.

Lots of stories on this show are due to carelessness. I watch to learn and the awesome courage of these people.

Secondly, if you look for the 'Chickamin River' on Google Maps and follow it down to it's mouth you can see the sandbar where Adrian was stuck. And you can also see that it's a sheltered river estuary, not some tide race. Cheers.
@@DrewWithington Everyone wants to see you build a raft with a knife and pine sticks and use it to get to your boat anchored a half mile out on a river. So you think a river doesnt have current ? Your idea almost certainly would have gotten him killed or swept out in the ocean where he would have died for sure. Staying put near the anchored boat was the smartest thing he could have done. @@marknapier8426 This will keep you alive. First, you have to have enough wood to displace your body weight in order for the raft to float, second, you need to have some sort of material to tie the seperate pieces together. Third, you need to keep your body above the waterline when the water is just above freezing. Four, you need to have to have some way of steering the "raft" which is not aerodynamic like a normal boat. Five? Sailing is not a option. You need winds that blow into the direction you're headed. Six, the river has currents. One miss of the boat and you're washed out to sea, where the boat was seen after it broke loose. Seven, in Alaska, you're most likely to find wood, even windfall, damp and heavy. Eight, he had basically a pocket knife. They're not designed to saw through wood. Great doc, but it was a little stressful not knowing exactly what happened to your friend. Even at the end, it's still not clear. I was imagining 2 or 3 scenarios. I very sorry for the loss of his life no matter what. And, thank you for sharing your story.
So he see his friend disappear and he do nothing but say I knew he was gone He needs to be investigated by the authorities
Years ago, I hiked in Alaska. It rains like every other minute.
Animals getting revenge for being hunted.
No
How did your friend just disappear? Why didnt you go with him?
Omg that walking stick in the first scene is so skinny.
Director: I want you to use a walking stick for this scene.
Actor: *finds twig*
Director: perfect
🤣
Lol I thought the same thing. Terrible show.
What happened to cause him/them to get stuck on the island?
I must have missed it. But what actually happened to his friend? Did he fall off the boat?
It probably sunk due to the weight of the bear.
@@tasha5419plausible. But you’d think this documentary would’ve touched on that? Meaning how he died. That was my point. But thanks
Thank you, we learned from you.
What happened to his friend?
What actually happened 😳
according to a google search: Garrett's body was found in a canal about 30 miles south of the mouth of the river and he was wearing a life vest but it wasn't properly secured. So he did go into and died in the water.
What happened to the friend? We need to know that first!!!!!!
I don't feel sorry for them at all. They went there to murder innocent animals. I'd call it karma
Should've gone on the mini boat together..Always do things together...
Was left disappointed as to what happened to the friend. Not explained very well.
He looked and had some snack bars .. peanut butter snack bars would have held him for sure. One of the main fats in peanut butter is oleic acid. When substituted for other fats in your diet, oleic acid is shown to help maintain good cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure. Managing these levels in your body can lower the risk of heart disease. Peanut butter also contains omega-6.
On the surface this video seems interesting, then it just dissolves into farce. As other have said, the tree line would have been the best bet; I think that many people in Alaska live in such ease and comfort frightened by fairy tales that when faced with a threat they wilt like candy floss in a childs mouth. It would be easy to build a shelter in the trees by the shore; a fire, food etc. The man has two shooters.... Oh well, the wages of lack of foresight is this man... From Ivan In New Zealand. PS I have been to Alaska and the Yukon often working, cycling, hiking, hitching...
I agree and I find it odd that he couldn't find a way off the tidal flat yet somehow wolves and grizzly bears found a way down and back as he mentions that prints were all over in the sand. I don't know about this guy but I can traverse much more rugged terrain than any grizzly or wolf could ever manage. If bears and dogs made it, shouldn't be a problem for any capable human in my opinion.
Amazing story ❤
Major parts of this story left out.
I go stranded twice like this on Kenai; once in winter on sleds and once in summer
I’ve hunted Alaska with both rifle and bow for bear - being dropped off alone Is thrilling - after just 12 hours I was past ready to be picked up -but when you are stuck for days survival mode plays a big role - you were very lucky 🍀
Explain what joy you feel as you annihilate a beautiful sentient animal? Do you feel strong or brave or powerful? I would love to understand how mowing down a sentient being feels good to some humans. Don't bother explaining - I'll never understand.
@@bronze2956 I really don't think people like you were meant for this world.
Why is going out into the wilderness and shooting animals for sheer sport a thrill?? This is not the 1950s.
Awesome and sad story… thanks….
Garrett killed a bear, and nature killed him back.
hideous last photo of him with the bear. I hate shooting for sport. For survival, yes. for a bit of fun, no.
@@hannahswheelieawesome These men don´t seem to understand that they have no divine right to kill animals for fun.
@@veronicasanacion Veronica, have you ever eaten any once living species? Alaska law does not allow you to kill bears for "fun". You must use and prove that no part of the animal is wasted and hunting them isn't arbitraliary allowed.
@@Praetoria113-zm3no I have met hunters in some countries who seem quite well fed but hunt for fun. They have weapons, arrows and bows, big vans for uneven roads, they are far from poor. Some were from the U. States, others from Canada, Russia and England.
Some years ago, there was a documentary show at discovery channel about survive and rescue.... I cannot remember the show name... Could anyone recall me the show name please?
In the previous episode he said he brought 3 ways to start a fire , now he said he could not cook food? I don't trust that man at all
Absolutely insane this guy didn't build a shelter and start a fire to protect himself from the elements and predators as well as give himself the ability to cook any food that he could easily hunt with his rifle.
