I want to talk about how dark and eerie the soundtrack to Addams Family Values is. It's incredibly underrated, and upon first hearing it, you'd never guess it came from an Addams Family game -- especially "Dangerous Terrain".
The Addams Family games are very British platformers, you can feel the influence of stuff like Jet Set Willy/Manic Miner in them. They're also hard as nails.
I game genied the shit outta this and Pugsleys Scavenger Hunt lol. Had to get my moneys worth instead of not being able to pass the first cpl levels lmao
Yep. Floaty controls, bad hit detection, bland, boring maze-like stages where you need to collect stuff: it's definitely a typical pre-1994 British platform game. The kind that was everywhere on the Amiga.
My only complaint with the first game is that Gomez constantly acts as though everything is slippery as ice. Way too floaty for my liking, but I did actually beat it back in the day on a Genesis so I liked it enough to finish it and overcome the failures. Probably the first Metroidvania game I played lol.
+KryptKicker5 yeah it's definitely a bit slippy but I also liked it enough to play through it and enjoy it back in the day. I have it in my collection but haven't got round to playing it again yet. It's going to be interesting to see how it holds up.
I only played the first game but if the second ones even harder, not sure I'd even pick it up. The first game wasn't impossible, but like others have said it is very slippy and there are some really tough sections. I did enjoy the non-linearity and the multiple secrets hidden in each level and in the house itself.
I gotta say, this channel being entirely revolved around a console that is like 30 years old now, yet still getting nearly 200k subs (quite deserving of it, you make awesome direct-to-the-point reviews) is impressive
Maybe my bar was lower as a child, but I remember having a lot of fun with the first game. It was a little floaty, and the screech noise was irritating, but the open world, visuals and music really worked for me.
I played through the Addams Family on the original NES not too long ago, and it quickly became one of my favorites. Also, I'm not sure if it's from the actual game, but that music in the first part of the Addams Family Values section of this video is the theme from Phantasm, which is cool.
I haven't gotten pugsley yet. that does look like quite the challenge. am I the only one that liked fosters quest? maybe I just have a spot in my heart because I feel for old baldy.
Addams Family Values is a good game with some issues. I own the game, but was not ever able to finish, but now there is a patch that fixes the most annoying things, like being able to get passwords anywhere, and not loosing your attack so much when taking damage. It makes this a really great game. If the game had battery save and you could save without so much backtrack, it would be one of the best games for SNES on its time.
I think a lot of the frustration that people get from festers quest is there not upgrading to the last gun and useing there items wisely it’s actually a really good game onnce you do that one of my favorites
I've only played the first Addams Family game on SNES, but I played it quite a lot when I was little because I didn't have a Mario game of my own at the time, and that was the closest thing to one that I could get, so I have a soft spot for it, even with its brutal difficulty and cheap hit detection... But wow, the other two games look pretty neat as well! I also played Pugsley's Scavenger hunt on NES, but that's just the same game as the SNES version of the 1st game, except in 8 bit, with no in-game music and you play as Pugsley instead of Gomez, it's still quite decent though, and it looks pretty damn good for a NES game! (I also played the Sinclair Spectrum version a bit... It's not very good...)
Never played the SNES ones, but Fester's Quest is fantastic! Granted, we had the NES controller with the joystick and turbo button. But it's great with that.
Recently found your channel. I love the conciseness of the reviews, and these "best of x" videos are great. And i love your send off of "have a great rest of your day" for some reason haha. It just feels like something someone would say to you in person and not as contrived as other youtuber send offs. Might i suggest a topic for another video of this sort, What SNES Looney Tunes Games are worth playing. There's about 10 total and some are pretty damn good, while others are just crap. Thanks for the video, and enjoy the rest of your day
Thanks Maxwell, a Looney Tunes vid will be done eventually, there's just so many games to get to. I will say I liked Looney Tunes B-Ball, that's coming up in the SNES Basketball vid in a few weeks
The mention of Ardy Lightfoot in a vid of yours excites me, it's such an underrated platformer IMO. I hope that gets it's own vid soon. Adamms Family SNES games are all and flawed at the same time. they're all cheap enough too where one won't feel guilty even at picking up all 3 at once
Hahah only one I played and loved it as a kid, don't remember it being much harder than any other SNES game, a lot were really difficult back then for similar reasons, had the patience to grind back then.
Wait...was there not another Addams Family game? I honestly remember renting one that looked totally different than this. You played as Gomes...and it was a side scroller but you had to collect letters it spelled cash or fortune..or something like that. I swear it existed.
Great overview! Would love to see you take a look at the Super Star Wars games... I'm assuming you probably already have this planned around the launch of Rogue One. Thanks for all your work man. Big fan.
Oof, I just played through Addams Family Values since I generally trust SNES drunk's judgement, but found it to be a confusing fetch quest fest. There are barely any hints on what to do or where to go, with maze-like dungeons in a sprawling, empty, confusing world, neither for with the map provides any help at all. Often enough, you will wander around through half of a dungeon, using dozens of teleporters, until you come across a random item, leave the half-done dungeon to trek around the world for 5 minutes, and use it for an arbitrary purpose to progress somewhere else completely. Add to that the 33(!) character password system with passwords that you can only get by trekking to one of the swamps from wherever you are, wander around until you find a specific character there, and have an empty A4 sheet of paper to write it down. The longplay for that game on TH-cam is 2h long, but if anyone played it blind, I would bet money they'd need at least 40 hours, if they don't give up in frustration beforehand.
wow i just stumbled across your channel randomly and i enjoy your content however, i do wish they were a bit longer and go more into detail about said games...but thats just me. SUB'd #retrogamingFTW
a random frog That's exactly why I didn't sub. Such lack of attention that is. Still, I click on a vid from time to time. Good job so far as well you stinkin' drunk!
I used to rent these all the time, especially the first two games. I remember being able to get decently fair in them after a long while, but on more recent gameplay sessions, I have to agree: these games are near impossible. Don't know how my adolescent self could do it.
I finished Family Values the other day and, unpopular opinion, feel it is terribly overrated. The graphic and sound design is great, but when it comes to progressing and playing the game it is so cryptic and tedious. The in-game map isn’t very helpful. The degrading main attack is annoying enough, but made worse by how hard it is to refill health. Why are the cookies in such finite supply... why is cousin It so remote... ugh. The dungeons are full of trial and error, the list goes on. If you don’t get to the final boss with a full stock of cookies I honestly have no idea how they expect you to beat it. Once you’re at 1/2 health and below, you’re done.
I'll never understand the animosity some folks have against Fester's Quest. Sure it has some minor foibles, but they never got in the way of the game for me, so I'm perplexed when people hate on the game like it kidnapped their dog/cat/pope for ransom money.
For me I was stuck on the hobgoblin for ages. But when I eventually defeated that from memory it was the Judge(final boss) took forever to master. Have completed this several times now.
@@bewd4310 old games is still coming back this game might come back they're bringing back rocket nights they're making did a collection and they're bringing back crack so this game still have a chance to come back
The first one (1992) is a gem for me. Highly addictive and well ballanced. Music, action, freedom, ambience... Very good game.
yea i played it on the Genesis great game 10 out of 10 for me maybe better on the genesis hard as helll!!
Totally agree
Agree. Awesome game. Sprawling and addicitive. Not sure what SNES Drunk's beef is.
@@DavidGolder I don't think he has *beef* but rather needs to revisit the game, sometimes you have replay a game to really see the value.
Yes it was

The moment he said all of them were developed by Ocean i knew what kind of games were coming!

Yep. Floaty controls, bad hit detection, bland, boring maze-like stages where you need to collect stuff: it's definitely a typical pre-1994 British platform game. The kind that was everywhere on the Amiga.
I personally like the first game and think it's the best of the 3. It doesn't do anything new (none of the games do) but it's a good solid platformer.
My only complaint with the first game is that Gomez constantly acts as though everything is slippery as ice. Way too floaty for my liking, but I did actually beat it back in the day on a Genesis so I liked it enough to finish it and overcome the failures. Probably the first Metroidvania game I played lol.

The SNES is just that good, it's a timeless quality console
Did you really need the parenthesis
I love the 1st Addams Family on Snes. Love the music & love the (hard) platform mechanics.
Maybe my bar was lower as a child, but I remember having a lot of fun with the first game. It was a little floaty, and the screech noise was irritating, but the open world, visuals and music really worked for me.

Pugsley's on NES is a port of the first SNES game actually.
I LOVE the first Addam's Family game. I LOVE the play control! It's one of my favorite snes games.
The first game is my favorite platformer by far maybe my favorite game on SNES.
You first need to fight the giant bird to get your 3rd heart. End game password is BLRGG
ADDAMS FAMILY VALEUS IS THE BEST,, still playing and I LOVE it... playing on my Emulator on my Samsung A8
Thanks again for another great video SnesDrunk!! I appreciate your passion for the 16 bit Era. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for watching Charles
Addams Family Values almost looks fun enough to play, almost.
ModelJames13: A Zelda-style venture game in the Addams Family franchise? You bet!
I played Addam's Family quite a bit as I owned it. Hard game. Very unforgiving. Credit to some really neat levels and background visiuals though.
I have a lot of memories of the first Addam’s family game. I play it a lot. I beat it in one sitting
I haven't gotten pugsley yet. that does look like quite the challenge. am I the only one that liked fosters quest? maybe I just have a spot in my heart because I feel for old baldy.
The first game reminds me a lot of Kid Chameleon on the Genesis. I like it. I just wish it was more forgiving.

the genesis version of addams family the 1st is amazing on the genesis played to death, the speed and resolution and music makes it great!!!
People are wrong, blindly following AVGN! Fester's quest is an awesome game! IF, you use a rapid fire controller! So good with rapid fire!
you probably like little red hood too
Its pretty much the best game ever
Yes u r correct i love that game i still remember running into a wall the first time and finding extra health bar
Fester Quest is an amazing game 😎

I prefer the first Addams Family game. The second one controls and dificulty put me off, and the third one i find totally unremarkable.
I wonder if AFV was designed with the big sky trooper engine. They look very similar

Did anyone else catch the Phantasm theme during the beginning of the last Adam's Family Values bit? One of my favorite horror movie themes.
I really wanted to like Values but the password system is total crap. The in-game map doesn't help much either.
Maybe I should try it one more time.
The best 90s Addams Family game was a pinball machine. :-/
I love this game was fun back in 92 and i still play it today
that's it, been binge watching ya joint, here and there, drinking, mostly sober

There is a patch out there for Addams Family that makes the game waaaay more fun (Higher jump, better physics). I'd recommend it.

There's an NES Adams family too. I owned that one. I think it was made by same company. I rented festers quest, and that one was worse
First Addams Family game. Worth playing? Yes, definitely. Worth completing? Hell no.
Good videos dude. Glad I found you. Subbed.
Thanks
Not agreeing with you the first Addams family game was awesome, Difficult and satisfying to play to the finish. Both challenging and highly addictive.
Addams Family pinball satisfies more than of the 8 or 16 bit video games.
I have all 3 versions on the Super Nintendo and beat all 3 and the easiest in my opinion is definitely the first game.

Addams Family Values has unbelievable music, but the map is senseless and the overall execution is underwhelming.
Does anyone remember a Addams family game with possessed dolls that flew around a room?
There's an Addams Family mobile game called Addams Family Mystery Mansion
I think these games are amiga games originally and ported to the snes. They have the look and a bit of the 'jank' of amiga platformers
I liked the NES/MSX version of the first Addams Family game a lot more than the SNES version.

Fester's Quest is very hard
I know,, still playing and I am at the last level boss,, miss jellinsky
Can u review ardy lightfoot ?
I'll be talking about it a bit next week
The 3rd game looks a LOT like the Jurassic Park game. Probably because they’re both Ocean Software
U can do a Flight Sims on SNES one! that way there'd be Carrier Aces
Festers quest was a good game and its not that hard. I could beat it as a kid. Actually i found Family values harder and more confusing.
Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt is unplayable due to the constant sliding, every level is an ice level in that game.
You would have loved the last level in the game which was literally an ice level that has you sliding all over the place.

They're made by Ocean. That speaks volume in itself.
I played this game so much. I loved it. I even remember my last password - BLKKB
Mean the 1st one of course
could you make a "is i worth playing today" about the game Cameltry? thnks
You wanted a mediocre yet harmless movie/franchise tie-in game in the late 80's early 90's?
Give it to Ocean

Fester's Quest the the Addams Family game truest to the spirit of the property: Unrepentantly, even gleefully eccentric and perverse.
this game is hard,i tried playing the first one and died so many times
this seems ok
TBH I dislike the SNES Addams Family games. The NES and GB ones outshine them in so many ways. Not Festers Quest imo though.

I didnt really think the NES game was hard.
I'm gonna take that pee avgn saying
So would you consider this game a platformer?😂😅
These games do not look that good. The first two look like SNES Mighty Max. The third game reminds me of SNES Jurassic Park. Take care, everyone.
None of the Addams Family SNES games are worth playing you know why? They were made by Ocean.
At least this game worked had terminator by ocean on commodore didnt even load up 😂😂
not a cool game
