According to Gaming Historian’s old Game Quickie video, B.O.B stands for Bug Outer-space Bot. Also one key feature the SNES version has that the Genesis version lacks is the ability to switch between weapons using the L and R buttons.

Fun fact: B.O.B. is one of the very few SNES games with its full source code available.

TRUE STORY: When I got my SNES when I was 4 from a now defunct used game store there were 3 games bundled with it: B.O.B. Ken Griffey Jr. Winning Run & Pit Fighter, which is not a game but rather a medieval torture device

I feel the same way about games set in real time, like those Brain training games or Animal Crossing. I always hated being told off for not playing regularly, when I don't have the time and effort to do so. And yet, if they didn't have this feature included, I would actually enjoy them a lot more. Same with even Tomodachi Life, when your Miis comment on how long it has been since you've last visit them.
But yeah, I also don't like games that revolve around a time limit, except in Prince of Persia, where there's a way to save your game to prevent wasting time. As a result, I can't get into the Dead Rising series, and I want to steer clear of all the Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons type games that pressure you into completing everything so that you don't end up dying alone. I'd like to know which good ones don't have that, even if they're major spoilers.

I grew up with this game and loved it growing up. I used to write down the passwords so I could "save" the game though I'd usually intentionally start earlier than my recent save point to get more of a stock of weapons and items when facing the harder levels. It's a tough game for sure, but a lot of fun.
I also assumed BOB stood for "bug on base" as a kid but I was dumb.

This is almost the only TH-cam video about this game. Glad I found it. I played B.O.B. about ten years ago only on the PSP. The game was in a compilation on disk, among other old games. Then she was a damn cool, although it was difficult for me to play and in many ways I was annoyed. So but I never completed it.
By the way, greetings from Russia.

I had a serious love/hate thing with this game back in the day. I loved the way it looked and all the goofy sounds like his fingers make this crazy sound effect while pipe crawling but that difficulty wall is no joke. You're having fun and then you just die over and over. I never could beat this game. Games like this make me wonder if they were trying to support Game Genie sales.

I used to rent this at my local video store. I discovered that before the game gets to its start screen, if I just mashed all of the buttons I would sometimes input a code that gave 99 of all weapons/items.
I just looked on Gamefaq, and this code is not there (and it is different than the "Start on any stage with everything" secret), but I promise I have done it multiple times.

Uh... y'all know that game engine just means the code base the game started on/was implemented in right? It doesn't mean jack about gameplay or anything else (it's not like all Unity, Source, or Unreal Engine 4 games play the same or at the same quality level) because game development is not about what a game was built on, just what the game is in the end. The whole point of game engines are to be flexible in the first place to create different games.

I had this game for my snes and I played it alot with a friend. It's a pretty good and fun game, but also a bit to the hard side. Specially when you have to fly that spacecar with a timelimit through small areas and tunnels without getting hit. And your normal ammo in game is also limited so these things makes it difficult.

Nowadays I think its design feels more like Doom than anything else, kinda mazey levels with some trial and error, hidden items/weapons you can carry over, but only if you don't die, all weapons have ammo except your melee etc, in that way it's kind of a novelty I think lol
