  • In this video I fix a PS2 Slim which doesn't spin disc's, this is usually caused by the switch at the back of the console that detects when the lid is closed.

      @@EasyConsoleFixesit’s odd, last night I bought a slim ps2 with 50 plus games, I tested ALL of the games last night, and the system read every single one of them, but this morning I turn it on and pop in just cause and it wouldn’t read, opened it up popped in Spider-Man 3, worked fine, read the disc in about 5 seconds of less and played perfect, was like okayyyy, poppped in god if war and it didn’t read it at all, no skin except for when it’s trying to read the first time, took that out and popped in socom 3, IT RAN PERFECTLY, popped THAT ONE OUT and put just cause back in, and didn’t read that one. These are all dvd-9, it does read cd-rom discs as well. I don’t understand. So when I get home imma try this. The scph-90k models have their spinning sensor built into the laser, the laser tries to read of it sees data the disc starts spinning
    This also means if the disc have a scratch the laser won't detect the data so the disc won't spin which gives lower possibilities of successfully loading a disc on 90k models

      Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by the drive spins both ways. The slim uses a few different spindle motors. If you search for the model of console and spindle motor you should see the correct one.
      Some of the console models the spindle is really easy to change and in some it's difficult so it may be worth checking you have one of the easier ones.

    My console is doing the exact same thing, the disc spins, the console tries to read the media when both sensor are pressed, but it always fails to do so returning with the error "disc cannot be read". I reflowed the back sensor in the same way you did, applying some flux on each of the 4 pins and slightly tinning them. I also changed the laser and every component of the laser assembly all to no vail, the console still refuses to read discs. I am at a loss here, perhaps is some other component located on the main board at fault here, may be some capacitor that went bad... Do you have any idea what the issue might be?

      If the disc spins it does seem like its an issue with the laser. If you start the console with no disc in and press down the 2 lid sensors can you see the laser lens try to focus by moving up and down.

    I have a PS2, everything seems to be working with it but it stops spinning after a little bit of play and it seems to randomly stop spinning. Could this be an issue with the sensors?
    As a secondary question:
    At first I thought it was the motor, so I bought a replacement disc assembly, laser and motor included, putting that in the motor doesn't spin at all but the laser moves and lights up, this is my second replacement disc drive assembly that has the same issue too. • @EasyConsoleFixes

      When you held the switches down does the laser lens move up and down or try and focus.
      If nothing at all happens when you press the switches down it's probably a faulty switch as the console is not detecting the lid is closed.
      If the lasers tries to focus but it doesn't spin it's probably a faulty spindle motor, spindle motor fuse or maybe the ribbon to the spindle motor.

    I can't find anyone having the problem I have with mine. I had it stored in a drawer for about a year. Worked when I put it away, I got it out to play, out the disc in closed the door, the laser moved, lit up, but the motor wasn't spinning. I still get it out every once in a while to mess with it, but everything I find always points to those switches, which both work perfectly. I think the motors fried.

    • @EasyConsoleFixes

      Did the old laser try and do anything at all. Even if it didn't spin did the lens move up and down to try and focus.
      I would have thought the console would spin a little and then stop if the laser was dying but maybe if the laser was completely dead it might not try and spin at all.

      If you are sure the lid closed switches are working correctly and the disc still doesn't even try and spin then the issue is probably with your spindle motor.
      It may be worth checking the motor, ribbon cable to the motor and the fuses on the board to make sure these are ok.

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      On this model it's under the shielding on the top side over near the power jack. It's just a standard CR2032, there's a plastic holder on the board for it, not like the other ones which have a CR2032 attached to wires with a connector.

    • @EasyConsoleFixes
      @EasyConsoleFixes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's a little brake at the back of the disc that moves out of the way when the lid closes, is that why it feels stiff.
      The power connector is an easy fix if you can use a soldering iron. I have a video of how to do it if you want to check it out.
