I can't tell you how much that means, Louisa... You know, I literally had a crash course in editing in Premiere Pro over a few hours and took all this on by myself and I was so scared. I was overwhelmed and I thought I'd give it my best shot but I'd probably end up tanking the whole channel and losing it all. I genuinely thought I might have to quit and get an office job again because I wouldn't be able to do it. But that didn't happen. Instead, I found a whole new world of joy and creativity. Making these videos makes me so happy. I don't just do it, I LOVE doing it. This whole thing has changed my life. Truly. I am finding so much trust and confidence in myself :) It's amazing. Thank you so much for believing in me! Yes, I love James in the vids too! It's great! It's so lovely to capture all the fun. I'm hoping to be able to travel with lots of friends this year and get different people in the videos, meet new travel buddies along the way :) Just have a great time with amazing people and film all of it! The trip was 6 years before TH-cam existed!! So all I have somewhere in storage is still photos of my time there! Photos of the Golden Temple or the Imperial Palace for example! No cloud storage in those days! 😂

1st of all, congrats on reaching 100K subscribers. Also, yes you definitely need more time in Kyoto. But, you stayed there 1 day longer than me. I went there in 2014 and only stayed overnight. Wish I could have stayed longer. I did stay in a capsule hotel like you and liked the experience, although I stayed in July and it was really humid. Nice little summary of your 2 days there. And wow, you looked so pretty in the Kimono 😍

I figured all the girls wore bright Kimonos so I picked the most colourful one I could find only to go outside and all the girls had subtle tones on haha Either way, I loved wearing it. Thank you for touring Kyoto! I went there 11 years ago and loved it. This October, I will be moving to Kyoto for school, where I will be living there for at least the next 2 years or so. I'm looking forward to it and to see how much the city has changed within the last 10+ years.

Oh my gosh, Paul... you've no idea how much I appreciate that. I had never edited a video before. I got a 'crash course,' in Premiere Pro in a couple of hours and that was it... I was so scared and overwhelmed by it all. But making these videos, taking over every aspect of it, has given me so much joy for the whole process. It makes me so truly happy. Or was it truly the pure joy that appeared on you and James' faces throughout? (also, both of you looked really good in them. * Except uni....I'm not a fan and was cringing watching you eat it. I saw in other comments that you are willing to try it again, but only in Japan. Perhaps that is sage advice. * Shopping in Japan looks so amazing. Well done in just showing what is available and how the shops are arranged...no need for commentary; let the images and music do the work!
* And, speaking of work! That rickshaw guy is, indeed, buff! You got to wear traditional Japanese attire, while riding a traditional Japanese rickshaw, through the traditional old capital of Japan. Just think of how absolutely cool that is! What a life you're living!
* Were you able to get some video of your rickshaw driver talking and pointing out the sites?
* Yuzu Ramen?!?!?! OMG...I love ramen (miso is my usual favorite)...but yuzu? Oh, wow.
* Way to get a bit of *revenge* on James and catching him off-guard! (I also can't slurp my ramen. I know you're supposed to--my wife reminds me to do so all the time--but I just can't)
* Bah...you don't need to hit the "tourist" sites. It looks like y'all hit the better sites anyway!
* Excellent mix of your thoughts looking forward to Osaka while in still Kyoto while showing the quick 'previews' of what you did in Osaka! That was delightful (and the escalator shot---😂)
Phoebe--I've been watching some of your past videos a lot lately as I'm finalizing our trip to NZ and Australia next month. As you sit on the precipice of a great milestone (100k!!), I even went further back. You've come a long way and have created easily one of the best travel vlogs on YT. I've been watching a lot of other travel vlogs about Australia and NZ. A lot. And I keep going back to yours because you provide such incredible information and show people what they can really do. Because of you, I know we're gonna have the time of our lives in Auckland (I didn't know about the All Blacks Experience!) and we'll also be staying at Ceder Creek Lodge in Tamborine for a night (looking forward to a wine and charcuterie board!). I was at first intimidated in planning this trip but, we know what we want to do in NZ and in Brisbane (my wife's Gma's hometown back in the '40's). Again...all because of your videos and your inspirations.
The high production value (which is another way of saying "all of your hard work") shines through and has, at least in my opinion, gotten so much better this year. It's part of what makes your channel so much better. You've also been open and vulnerable in these videos. You've let the world into your heart, knowing it will help you heal (I think that's why we like these so much--fellow introverts here). They've become not just a journey throughout the world to be shared, but also your journey through your toughest of times. A modern day version of an autobiography. I think this is why your channel has exploded and will continue to grow--hopefully beyond even your wildest dreams.
Keep going. Keep sharing. Keep inspiring us all. And we'll see you next week in Osaka!

You know I got you with the GMYG!! hehehe And yessss you tell that naughty James haha we've got a certain flair over here on this channel ;) Okay, so the Kimonos! At first I felt a little self-conscious because my Kimono was SO bright and I am SO tall and SO blonde haha I felt like I stood out so much and I can get a bit uncomfortable when it feels like people are looking at me but after a while, I relaxed and it was so much fun. Heaps of people stopped to take photos with us, it was so sweet and I felt so comfortable in it, I wish I could've worn one every day in Japan.
Ahhhh! I cannot believe you're going to all those spots :) You're going to have the best time in Australia and NZ. Honestly, the all blacks experience is epic! I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I thought I'd try and make them but I didn't know if I was capable and I was scared I wouldn't be good enough at it and would lose everything. Turns out, I love making them so much. Hiya! Shinskansen is superior! When I was traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto they even excused themselves for being 17 seconds late. As if anyone would’ve noticed. Kyoto has so much to offer, we just had one day so we visited Kinkaku-ji and it was incredibly beautiful, it’s not featured in this video so I recommend to do that next time you’re in Kyoto, believe me it’s worth it. Is that capsule hotel like a hostel or is it a real hotel? Because it really looks like a fancy hostel and I’ve seen hostels with pods/capsules before. Hey Phoebe, regarding the lens, size doesn’t matter, it’s the content that does 🫶. I love that dress, looks Japanese ❤. Miso soup is my favorite soup ever 🥵. Hahaha you are gonna have the BEST time! My favourite food spots in PD are: Melaleuca and the Thai, Vietnamese and seafood shops on Grant Street (there’s also a lady who makes cakes, like wedding cakes etc but she sells them by the slice and the chocolate with the sour cream frosting is EVERYTHING) and my fav coffee spot is Sparrow 🥰
@@travelforphoebe Do you know the name of the cake store? I love desserts! Have planned day trips to outer reef, Kuranda and Daintree. Also want to do all the walks/trails around town and try out as many dining places as possible :)
Once you edit the clips in final cut pro the colours pop visual clarity is so good you don’t even need expensive big bulky equipment to carry around just a smartphone will do damn just relized it was recorded in 4k no wonder the visuals are so good but the storage space must be running low towards end of the day

I'll see what I can do, it can be a little tough for me to track them down again. I just can't agree .. Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Kawaramachi Jokyoji is utterly beautiful ... hiking up to Doshisha Cemetery is really fun and completely free of foreign tourists ...

I really thought expensive equipment makes a difference 😂 but it doesn’t, im a experienced youtube watcher over a decade of viewing youtube vids i watched the guys same clip the quality was worst maybe if was editing as a short video and stuff led up the scaling, i cant believe the chicks vid is recorded on a cheap smartphone it even produces watchable and awesome visual quality compared to his few thousand dollar equipment
