@@markthompson6123 The ultimate mathematical unification (AND UNDERSTANDING) of physics/physical experience combines, BALANCES, AND includes opposites. The BALANCE of what is gravity WITH what is inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE requires and involves TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE, AS gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites (ON BALANCE); AS this CLEARLY explains the fourth dimension; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE); AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. INSTANTaneity is fundamental to what are TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE. Accordingly, ON BALANCE, INSTANTaneity is fundamental to what is the FULL and proper understanding of physics/physical experience; AS the extension of what is SPACE is CLEARLY (AND NECESSARILY) electromagnetic/gravitational ON/IN BALANCE.
What is GRAVITY IS, ON BALANCE, an INTERACTION that cannot be shielded or blocked. What is E=MC is taken directly from F=ma, AS the rotation of WHAT IS THE MOON matches the revolution; AS the stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. Great. INDEED, c squared CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY represents a dimension of SPACE ON BALANCE. ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE), AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. “Mass"/ENERGY involves BALANCED inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE consistent WITH/AS what is BALANCED electromagnetic/gravitational force/ENERGY, AS gravity/acceleration involves BALANCED inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE (ON BALANCE). A given PLANET (including what is THE EARTH) sweeps out equal area in equal TIME. Great. What is E=MC is taken directly from F=ma. Consider TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE. INDEED, consider what is THE EYE ON BALANCE !!! Notice WHAT IS the fully illuminated AND setting/WHITE MOON ON BALANCE !!! NOW, consider what is the TRANSLUCENT AND BLUE sky ON BALANCE !!! So, consider what is the orange AND setting Sun ON BALANCE. ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE), AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. Inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE is proportional to (or BALANCED with/as) what is GRAVITATIONAL force/ENERGY, AS the extension of what is SPACE is CLEARLY (AND NECESSARILY) electromagnetic/gravitational ON/IN BALANCE. Consider TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE); AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. Gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites (ON BALANCE). GREAT !!!!
BALANCE AND completeness go hand in hand. Carefully consider, ON BALANCE, why and how it is that there is something instead of nothing !!!!

me too - however, i only hated science at that point, because it could not answer the things i wanted in sufficient depth to fully grasp and understand the universe we live in - now however, i envy those going to school, as the amount of knowledge gathered since i was in school, is mind blogging. and in case i am 38, so was a long time ago. hence, science can now answer to the degree of understanding i want/need. Biggest issue i had in school, was the way it was taught, never taught to understand, just taught things to repeat, so i would sit there and say how is that, how does that happen, why does that happen, and as you can guess couldn't get an answer, so lost interest in it. And at risk of repeating, now they can fill in those blanks and explain things fully, like evolution, and my passion for learning is re-ignited.

I had a question...we know that during day sky is blue due to scattering of blue light of visible spectrum. During sunsets the sky looks reddish as most of blue light is scattered as the rays have to cover longer distance...so isn't there a contradiction that during day it looks blue and during evening it looks red both of which are due to scattering of blue light ?? I mean how could it be that we have to different outcomes due to the same phenomenon?

    I got a question :
During the evening the light from the sun has to travel more thus more scattering and no blue light left so it appears red.
But why is the sky red near the sun, but just above me it's still deep blue. I noticed this yesterday.
The blue sky above me is farther than the red sky at the horizon where the sun is setting.

So if a candle is lit at the bottom of a football stadium in broad daylight and you can't see it, but it is visible at night, that is due to light from the sun scattering it rather than your rods being too saturated with light to differentiate it?
If light from the sun scattering through the atmosphere obscures stars during the day, can't this also be explained in terms of your rods being too saturated with light? If no detector would be able to differentiate such a low light source in areas of high saturation, how can we be sure whether the explanation is relative intensity vs scattering?

In the fifth grade, I remember our teacher giving us a question that read, "What color is the sky?"
I was a super nerd and loved reading. So, by the time I was in 4th grade, I was reading encyclopedias for fun, learning tidbits that I wouldn't really come across until HS.
To shorten this story, I explained in detail similar to how Dr. Tyson described it about how the light from the Sun scatters in our atmosphere and the color that is reflected is what we see (much like how grass absorbs all the other colors that make up light and reflects green).
Well, my teacher straight up gave me an F for the assignment!! 😡 I was so crushed because I knew I was right and when I went to talk to her about it, she just brushed it off. This was over 20 years ago, but it's great seeing videos like this on TH-cam! Bill Nye, The Magic School Bus, Reading Rainbow, etc were among my favorite shows as a kid!! 😃

No, it isn't scattering from particles about the same wavelength as the blue light. It is mostly from air molecules, not particulates, and air molecules are a LOT smaller than the wavelength. Rayleigh scattering is from particles much smaller than the wavelength, including molecules. The Rayleigh scattering goes as the inverse fourth power of the wavelength, which is why blue light is scattered much more than red.

Neil, you said that particulates scatter the blue color, but only some, not all, leaving some blue coming through, so the shy looks light blue, and gets more orange and red at sunset as there is more scattering of the blue. How is it that the others colors dont get scattered at any time?

    • @polielie
      @polielie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Tysons answer was almost true but not completely. The particle size does not match the blue light. The scattering happens more when the wavelenght of light is smaller. And to the power of 4. Indeed violet light is scattered more than blue. But there is so little violet in sun light the sky is seen blue.

How will you get teachers like him when there is a war on teaching facts or anything Science. I can’t think of a time in our history where Science has been considered not essential, political and a conspiracy. Scientific Theorems, Laws and known truths that have been around for decades are now fake news according to someone on Facebook, Twitter, TickTock, etc. Everyone is an expert now in field of Science and supposedly we have alternative facts. Yes you heard that right. Alternative facts said a former presidential spokesperson with a straight face. Books banned, Classes need approval personally by a governor with zero formal training in education. Neil D Tyson and people like him are rarely valued.

It's the angle at which the sun's light is reaching you. From directly above, the light passes through a lesser distance to travel through the atmosphere than it does when the sun is low in the sky. 🙂

What a great, holistic explanation! Seriously.
But I was wondering, if our atmosphere and particles or air molecules in them are really so much responsible for the blue or red light that we see everyday, then global warming and all the collective pollution that we are creating here on earth, which is definitely affecting our atmosphere in an adverse way, will that ultimately lead to changing of the sky colours in the future at some point?
Because definitely the density of the air molecules will change due to pollution and it's disastrous effects. Won't that affect the colours in the sky too?
