I saw the first bend of the card and cringed, then motor oil on a card and had to look away, then the destroyed player mat I almost unsubcribed. Please don't do that again..Great work by the way.
Based on how the corners were cut on some of the "cards" I believe he duplicated them and destroyed the duplicates. With some card stock, a laser printer, and sharp knife, it isn't hard to make a convincing card for the camera, even if it isn't nearly as good as the real deal
If there was ever a game in dire need of a Component Proponent episode, it's this one. I also wanted to mention how much I appreciate you listing the sources of all your upgrades and the effort you put into reviewing so many diverse sources. That poor, abused game though....
That was brutal to get through all the corny humor! I was hoping to just see all the upgrades available, didn’t realize I had to suffer through all that awful humor!!!
I was waiting for the disclaimer of "No Erics were harmed in the making of this video." I also cringed multiple times during this episode. How about some upgrades for Whistle Stop? Especially the cubes which represent commodities. Thanks Chaz!
The destruction of the game pieces was initially cringing and then hilarious. Love the addition. :) The best part of these videos is I always watch them even if I don't own the game or haven't played them. Keep it up.
Thanks. Actually, I hope that it shows that I tried to incorporate some of the suggestions that were made by viewers during the "Is Sponsorship Selling Out?" episode of TABLEscraps (th-cam.com/video/YL6UHQ6kAlg/w-d-xo.html). Whether or not I was successful, we'll see. Regardless, this should satisfy the Crab People for a while (hopefully).
Pair Of Dice Paradise you did good kid. When ALL the upgrades come from Top Shelf it’s a little off putting, but mixing and matching where you get stuff keeps it feeling honest. However, my favorite episodes are about the pieces and bits that aren’t designed for gaming specifically. Like the Schleich toys or the Star Wars Micro Machines, or harvesting great pieces from bad games like the original Civilization.
Forget the acrylic overlays. GameTrayz's game trays for Terraforming Mars are the far better solution. They completely replace the original board and even have cool little notches to align the cards.
I don't recommend using a plano box (unless you plan on dumping the cubes out onto the table before each game). The cubes end up being really hard to take out during gameplay. Love the egg carton idea though! Think I may try that.
That poor, poor game! Couldn't help but internally shudder a bit at that abuse. :-) Another upgrade that we've added to our game is a bunch of unofficial corporations. I'm including a link below to the download on BGG. They seem well balanced and we've had a lot of fun with them. Picking a corporation and blending your strategy with its strengths is one of my big joys of the game. This just opens up those options even more. boardgamegeek.com/filepage/142642/22-unoficial-corporations-print
I am sorry, but I like the unexpected humor... sandwich in a box... flat....like earth.... Got me to laugh a few times. Worth the flat jokes to hit the golden nuggets. Keep it up.
Seeing those component get destroyed was painful. Why is that?? It's like the first time I had to tear a card in Pandemic: Legacy. It was SO hard to do! Poor Eric! Also, I find the explanation for the 1-sided player board overlays by Board Game Innovation very odd. I got the Board Game Boost boards and they're great but they're so HEAVY! I actually just put those in the box for Century Golem (you know, the box that holds the actual game box) along with some Game Trayz that are designed for Terraforming Mars that I put the megacredit cubes in and then smaller boxes (from the Dollar Tree store that are 10 for $1.00) that hold everyone's cubes. The sleeved cards are definitely the hardest part to contain and fit in the box. Great video, I just hope that component destruction is kept to a minimum!
Extensive steps have been taken to punish the host for his oversight when he set up that shot. We have hired two dozen strangers at the supermarket to simply stop, say "tsk, tsk, tsk" at him, and then walk away. It's surprisingly effective.
+Önder Kandemir That’s an excellent game, definitely deserving of some attention. Let me see what I can come up with. November and December’s Component Proponent videos are planned, but I’ll add Merchants And Marauders to the list for consideration after that. 🙂
THis video was sooo funny and cool! I thought for a moment, "what if Eric was real?" . My TFM Box consist the Acrylic Markers, A Custom Made Start Marker from Fryx Games , 3 Deckboxes for all cards (including promos and Venus) at the right size to fit in both game boards inside the normal inlay. Also i use Geekboxes (4) for the resources. Well for the next one could you please look at 4X Games? Runewars/twilight Imperium/Eclipse etc... . Thanks Tom
As Cringeworthy as walking in the Bulgarian Countryside. That being said, you had the capital on the spot for noctis city at the beginning of the video.
Excellent video, man! Isn't the most urgent thing to upgrade in this game the card artwork...? ;) Any solutions for the abysmal Betrayal at House on the Hill components ---the clips in particular...
Thank you *so* much for the warning! I'll skip this too, then. We shouldn't have to "upgrade" just to have decent production. I've been so disappointed with production quality lately. While the games *are* great, the only thing worse that the production is the customer service that doesn't even exist. Hey FFG, I *can't* boil my Mansions of Madness 2nd ed pieces to get the cardboard counters to not rip as I slide them into the jaws of unlife base and that doesn't help with the "pegs" that are supposed to hold them to the bases not working either. Yet FFG was once the *benchmark* of not only quality but customer service as well! You could call and talk to real people! Honest! Seriously if we can't take it back to the store and the company won't fix it what do we do? Spend a *lot* less on analog entertainment in the future, that's what. Especially if I'm no longer helping to support the jobs of those great people who used to enjoy helping me. I'm kind of nervous for what this across the board "rip and profit" mentality will do for gaming in the long run.
Critical Eats Japan - You can find some awesome replacement clips here www.shapeways.com/product/G55FCRZR8/replacement-clips-betrayal-at-house-on-the-hill?li=shareProduct&optionId=41501096. This link is just white ones, but you can grab them in all colours.
Critical Eats Japan Yes! Don’t buy replacement clips! Go to Walmart (or equivalent), for $1 you can buy a pack of 100 “Mini Clothespins”. They are only slightly bigger than the clips, but being clothespins they clip on and hold. Also, I’ve colored mine red and blue for the mind (red) and body (blue) stats. Helps with new players who get confused about which stats are which. For $1 you’ve got more than enough clips for Betrayal and several other games and they work great!
Your best video ever! The wanton destruction of this game must have driven some geeks insane!. LMFAO! My storage solution was simple, I have the online game from STEAM.
So... Is this some kind of in-joke between you and Erik? Like, did he make it a really big deal about not ruining his game? Now you are making it look like you destroyed it...
I can't recommend Broken Token highly enough! Yes, it's a little work but if you can handle legos it's really no problem and has been so much better than cheap foam core in my experience. Foam core is horrible, *especially* if you store your games on their sides (or they get tipped or travel a bunch.) The extra work is worth it, fun and looks about 100x less cheap. Anyone know if Broken Token makes any storage for Legendary? I couldn't find it if they do. I'm not surprised now that that includes over 2,500 sleeved cards. :)
Foam core is not horrible. You can literally go to a hobby store and buy it for $5 in order to make an insert on your own... instead of dishing out 30-40$ for a broken token insert. I don't like paying for things I can make. Making an insert from scratch is more fun than playing legos and way more satisfying. Also every foam core insert I've created can go vertical with no issue. Im not sure why that would be an issue with any foam core insert as long as the measurements are correct.
I use a mix of homemade foamcore and plastic containers, so I don't have any problems with spilling in vertical storage. Broken Token does make a Legendary insert tho: www.thebrokentoken.com/legendary-organizer/ So does Go7Gaming: go7gaming.com/product/leg-001-insert-for-legendary/ and go7gaming.com/product/leg-002-insert-for-legendary/
Thumb down for several reasons: 1. The first card that you destroyed by putting it in a protector with other card gave me hearth pain even more painful than watching GoT "Red wedding" 2. you destroyed several scoring boards wich is kind of soft because you can copy print them 3. putting greasy sandwich in a game box 4. destroying several addons that are not quite cheap 5. Mentioning Bulgaria in downgrading manner For your atrocities you showed, you must be banned for touching a board game for the rest of your life.
That was the point. If you can't tolerate it, you're poor. He paid money for them, he can do whatever he wants. Game developer got his fair share, the guy has fun as developers wanted albeit different way. By the way, he mentioned in comments section: (Psst: Every component mangled in this video was a color photo copy.)
Well, either that or literally destroyed a bunch of color photocopies. Either way, the IMPORTANT thing to remember is that I never gave Eric his copy of the game back.
Good advice. In the future, I shall not destroy stuff like a TH-cam hipster. Instead, I shall do it like a TH-cam yuppie, or TH-cam microbiologist. Perhaps like a TH-cam corporate tax consultant. I like where this is going. 🤔
No boardgame was harmed during filming this.
That is true.
@@GameNightPicks fool me not! It hurts to see you torture em!

Totally agree. Good information was not conveyed because I stopped after 3 minutes.
8:31. Only played the game once, but what is the other piece used for? The round moon piece next to the first turn player token.
"Flat... Like the planet Earth." LOL! 😆
How much did this episode cost to make with all the stuff you damaged?
Didn't cost much at all. Color photocopies are pretty inexpensive these days. 😉
...I was not prepared for the sheer amounts of component gore in this video.
I suppose the video should have come with a trigger warning at the start.
(Psst: Every component mangled in this video was a color photo copy. 😉)
@@GameNightPicks It still hurts.

First shot and common mistake - Capitol token placed as Noctis City....
I know I'm late to Terraforming Mars, but I just received my Terraforming Mars Big Box and the base game. All I can say is wow!
Great way to do a sponsored video Chaz!

Do you have a video like this one for 7 Wonders (+ expansions)? Can't seem to find it.

Just 7 Wonders Duel. But 7 Wonders is on my list of games to research, so hopefully I can come up with some tips for 7 Wonders soon. :)

That sad, sad copy of the game. Favorite video this year I think!
Would Elder Signs also be a good target game for component proponent?
Boom chicka pop is the best popcorn ever! The sweet and spicy is my vice
Ohhh, yeah. Once we discovered it, we buy it by the case.

loved the chug chug intro \m/. Thanks for this--just ordered the game, and I'm aware of the component issues with the game, so this is quite timely!
Word of advice... never store ceramic dishes in game boxes.
Could you do something like this for the D&D Fantasy Adventure Board Game ?
He's the hero we need, not the one we deserve.
Also...ouch, some of that was painful to watch.
Would love to see a component upgrade video on Istanbul game
Why isn't there an ownership marker on the Capital at :08?!?!

Good video. I wish you had more links for each thing you mentioned during this though. *drools at that wooden board*

Is Eric still friends with you after this?
Eric has assured me that he likes me the same amount now, as he did before this video was made.
Pair Of Dice Paradise So he barely liked you before then ;p haha
Tom Servo needs that oil! I really like the Popamatic pieces for the cities.
I got the GameTrayz player boards and they are fantastic. =)
