What is the reason for putting a 30A fuse in the fuse box under the hood if you are putting a 10A fuse on the wire at the back, making it double fused? Is it simply to avoid having to get under the hood to change the fuse if it blows, the 10A would blow first? I put mine on the outside of the back end cover along with the 4wire connector, if it blows it will be easy to access and replace. I also did that so I could have access to remove it if ever I notice that the kit is draining battery power, I saw someone comment about that on a forum and I was initially going to put a toggle switch, but it was getting too complicated and access to put a switch was also awkward. Thanks PS : mine is a Qashqai SV, for some reason Nissan decided to call them that in Canada vs Rogue Sport in USA. They are essentially identical. Also, mine is a 2017, but the wiring is all the same. The kit I used was the Curt 56397 which comes with the proper connector tees that go between the two male/female connectors at the lights. Slightly easier connections there, but the power wire requires crimped electrical gromets, the access is terrible because the existing wiring (beige/brown) that needs to be cut to be able to connect is short.
The pre installed tow package from the manufacturer needs the 30 amp fuse to be active. We always install a 10A fuse because thats all the amperage required. Your new 10A fuse will blow first and protect the convertor box.
The black wire is required to be installed. The convertor box senses the signal through the t connector then draws its own power from the battery via this wire to light up the trailer. It has nothing to do with trailer brakes. Those are additional functionalities installed with a 7way socket.
This is a universal wiring kit so it will definitely work for the 2021 Rogue Sport. Soon they will come out with a quick connect that will plug into the tail light harnesses to make it a much easier install.
If you have to cut a wire at a plug always leave at least 2" of wire. Never cut it so close you can't reattach to it if for some reason it is needed. Personally I would have just found the correct connector for the plug and not even cut the wire.
If was sure to get this guy I’d just as soon let him do the job. Excellent video.
If he says "we're going to go ahead" one more time I would scream!
So helpful!
I purchased a Curt wiring harness that just plugged into the taillight assembly. The only connection I had to make was the constant 12vdc source wire.
Oops, and the ground wire!

@@trailerhitches Thanks
Can I install a harness without the black power wire if I don’t need electricity for trailer brakes?

I got a 2021 Rogue. Is the wiring the same? I guess what I'm asking is...Will a 2020 wiring kit work on a 2021 Rogue?
