That MP4/20 was such a fast, beautiful car. I loved Kimi at Ferrari '07-'09 but Kimi at Mclaren, that was when he was at his best

I decided to watch the race on F1Tv and thought I would just check out a few highlights. I ended up watching most of the whole race. It was so interesting and exiting, and the commentators were full of superlatives.
it was an amazing race. It was interesting to hear Fernando say at the end that he did about 7 overtaking moves in the whole championship but here he did 14. It also shows what drivers can do when there is less pressure, as Alonso had already secured his spot, but he was flying, as was Kimi.
And, I saw you a couple of times too, one when the overtake at the end happened. Big smiles.

This is what I love about F1. For me it's also about the engineers, mechanics and the team as a whole, the driver is the guy that makes all their hard work worth while.

Great story. Shows inverted starts are workable as long as all the fast cars start at the back. I ran over 300 races at a local dirt track with totally inverted starts based on point average. I can tell you when you start at the back and win, it's a great feeling. As your story shows.

This story reminds me of my own ACC race in Suzuka about a month and a half ago. I was 17th and after 20min mark I caught up to 16th driver. It was 90min race and for ~60min I was faster in the first and half of the second sector but he was faster out of the spoon. That hour of 90min race was the most fun I remember so far. Similarly He made mistakes out of the spoon but I just couldn't pass him. And it went on and on for lap after lap. Around 80/90min He went off track at the spoon and I finally overtook him. But It didn't last long because my tires were old and I lost a second at first sector at S-sss... He was behind me almost pushing me around and I cracked under pressure and He overtook me with just 2 or 3 laps remaining.
I'm pushing 40 and I don't care where I end up. My priority is FUN. And that race was so much fun I will probably never forget even though I and He were 1sec off the pace of the leading aliens.

#AskElvis this weekend could be truly special for Hamilton: i. He could break Schumacher's all-time race win record, and ii. He could do it at the Portuguese GP, where Aryton Senna (Hamilton's childhood hero) won his very 1st race. That would such a fitting way to honour 2 of the greatest drivers in F1 history - Schumacher took the baton from Senna, and Hamilton now takes the baton from Schumacher.

@@F1Elvis I think a bit more direct question would be if Kimi had his car to his liking, and Lewis had his car to his liking, who would have won. On pure talent, and speed basis. People keep talking about Kimi's Mclaren days in ways they have not talked about even Lewis' Mercedes days.

That Kimi was a lunatic and unbelievably fast. Jaw-droppingly fast to be frank. It wouldn't matter how hard you work when Kimi decides to get serious and put in one of those laps few in the history of F1 could replicate.

In 2020 on the right track, the fastest car on the grid starts dead last and the driver was Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen? Sure.
Let the old era be pleasant memories but accurate memories - most of the ppl reminiscent about “better days of yore” werent old enough and the current F1 cars would still drive circles around the old ones even with fuel regs.
