It's a satire song by a Swedish band ;) To call the FDJ "patriotic" would be a massive disservice. Like many socialist youth organisations and socialists in general, the FDJ was against nationalism, viewing it as yet another way to keep humanity divided and distract the people from gaining class consciousness. In the video you see lots of working together with youth of other countries, foreign trips and cultural exchanges, and even if the East German state is glorified, it was more used as a way to show how cool and good socialism is, and how rad it would be if the whole world was like that. So it's an upbeat socialist song instead of a patriotic one. But you're right that it's damn catchy
I learned two things from the comments. 1. This is a satire on the GDR. 2. After this satire, half of the commentators wanted to go to the GDR. And that's wonderful, comrades. The capitalists themselves wrote a song for us to dance to.

The song originally came from the Swedish two-man pop group IFA Wartburg. They produced many other good songs on the subject of the GDR, socialism and the Soviet Union.
IFA-Wartburg was a band that made satirical music about the GDR.

This is definitely up there with the most upbeat propaganda Songs I've ever heard, and also one of the most upbeat DDR Songs I've ever heard.
Edit: Okay okay I get it, it's not Propaganda. I can see that now.
This is a song sung by an independent Swedish band. I can imagine it being made in DDR, but their songs were usually a bit less ''punky'', for the lack of a better word. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I 'm just voicing my thoughts.

@@kajmak64bit76 No shit, but poor countries like Ukraine still use them as their main battle tanks. Though they somehow "modernize" them.
The armies of Donbass Republics got unlucky to inherit them aswell, from Ukraine, though I think that T-80s aren't as rare there aswell.

I really wish my country Philippines had this kind of upbeat patriotic songs. I am so singing this at work.
It's a satire song by a Swedish band ;)
To call the FDJ "patriotic" would be a massive disservice.
