- It's about time we got back to the Oak Challenge! But to make it more difficult, let's put a time limit on it. People have been doing the 100 Hours challenge as of late, so why not integrate it and see if I can complete the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Professor Oak's Challenge in less than 100 hours. Hope you've got a meal and a beverage because this is a long one.

I decided it was a good idea to use a Heracross in my BDSP playthrough. The one I eventually got was Atk+ Nature, and Guts. Dude's a beast.
I was playing blaze black and got one with Moxie and ev trained him in attack and speed and he was a beast. Total sweeper
Same here!!! The problem is it took me like 3 weeks of checking honey trees and I didn’t want to play the game anymore once I finally found it oops
I’m not nearly as creative… I just use Garchomp with substitute and swords dance…

I feel like its a must to comment on this video for the simple fact that this man literally set six hour alarms in his sleep schedule to get up for close to 200 times for honey tree encounters

26:10 honestly, I think this was a precursor to the classic mobile game daily login; force you to check in on the game in order to play it optimally on a set schedule (6 hours instead of 24), except Game Freak had no way to monetize it like mobile games do nowadays.
Imagine how chaotic a randomised oak challenge would be.
Christ that'd be infuriating to play, you just know for a fact you'd end up with a non evolving pokemon like Pinsir as one of your last ones, can't evolve something into it or breed to get one
Loved this play through and thank you for linking the strategy guild so we can all give them ok. I really do enjoy these Professor Oak challenges as it brings new life in to the games!
The stall in time for the last 8 swarms forcing an "outburst" of sorts from our boy. Accurate 🤣 am I too far off in guessing this took at least up to 250 ish actual in game time or so without the save scumming? Getting to the swarm at the end I'm assuming would be a quick turn on, check, turn off with nothing else to do?

Oh no I'm actually enjoying Legends Arceus, I honestly love doing the massive amount of capturing and grinding in that game as early as possible (as seen in my two nuzlockes of the game) so it's not that bad imo.

I restarted my pla due to the arceus event so I thought what pokemon to pick I've used Rowlet and oshawatt so I'll use cyndaquil now

Would've been cool if you'd added the three catchable Mythicals to this video since they are all available in BDSP right now. Ending the video off by catching Arceus would've been epic!

Great video. I haven't touched my Shining Pearl copy much but I did get to defeat Candice and now have a team of Jirachi, Manaphy (Mystery Gift promo), Clefable, Garchomp, Infernape and Crobat at over Level 48.

This game had so much potential
I did my first POC in brilliant Diamond, largely inspired by a few of your videos. That early Psyduck and aipom took me a while but my final one was spoink which absolutely refused to show up for the random daily encounters at the end.

Your dedication to reset the beginning of the challenge to get a munchlax tree trainer ID is insane dude. I am massively impressed.
I would say next time something like that munchlax situation comes up absolutely do not reset just to technically do the challenge perfectly. I doubt most of us would seriously give a shit if you saved yourself 30 hours and the sanity loss of resetting after that much work just for a technicality. Unless you seriously want to do it for yourself and not the few people who will complain.
It took me about 70 ish hours to complete PLA with friends so good luck on your endeavors
Wait, an update after the initial release *slows down* the health bars? What the fuck? Did they think we found the slow draining health bars in the original games charming or something?
I guess so. And much like the original Gen 4 health bars, it didn't bother me a bit.

Catching every available Pokémon and evolving them is good way to guarantee badges
Haven’t played BDSP but I would think some Pokémon would be easier to wait because you used to find them later in the game at higher levels meaning level once and evolution

My final team for my first run of Brilliant Diamond is Infernape, Staraptor, Roserade, Gastrodon, Weavile, and from outside of the Regional Pokedex, Gardevoir.

You could've also grabbed Manaphy from Mystery Gift (but it's gone now, so you can't anymore) breed it into Phione & now Arceus after having a completed save game of Legends Arceus
And Darkrai by April 1st - May 1st for the extra credit
6:18 Actually, that's incorrect. Starting in Gen 7, you don't get a 50% EXP boost from Trainer battles anymore.

Professor Oak's Challenge will be differet in Legends Arceus, because as games main focus you will need to fill up the pokedex 100%.
Does Flame Body make hatching eggs take shorter ever since Gen 3?
I think this is the only game where you can get Mamoswine before getting to the Move Reminder. The snowy place is generally really late in the game, and you usually have access to the Move Reminder around the middle of the game.
It also happens in gen VII since you get Swinub (via Island Scan) in the Tapu Village and breed it for Ancientpower with a Smeargle (Sun/Moon) / L21 Kecleon (USUM) while the Move Reminder is at the Pokemon League.

I know the pain of this POC, and I didn't even do it, instead I tried completing the National Dex, and it didn't take me about 2-4 months, it took me 6-8 MONTHS to get as far as he did. Please, for your own sanity I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CHALLENGE, but if your a masochist or you hate yourself, then by all means go for it, I'm not stopping you.
the only thing im missing is nosepass probopass the thing isnt spawning at all its ridicolous that even after 4 months i still didnt get the nosepass swarm

for legends arcues can you count completing its dex entry not 100% but level 10 research

I feel like the listings of Pokemon near the end should've been done in the style of the PokeRap.
I love these videos but I do have to wonder if it would be any faster if he didn't try to get final evolutions before progressing. I feel like if he rushed through the game to unlock all the spawns and then went back it could be faster.

How do you keep track of which mons are currently "Available" and thus are ones you need before you can move on?
Evolutions arent too tricky, i could look that on bulbapedia, as well as ways to get evolution items, if need be
But how do you make sure you arent missing any mons? Is it as normal as just doing some damn good research? or are there places to help you with that (IE: Sites for this challenge specifically letting you know the names of mons you can get before each badge)
It's just research and a bunch of people doing it and quadruple-checking each others' work.

Have you got a link for the Munchlax tree exploit? I tried doing this challenge and never got Munchlax until it was roaming round in the wild so I failed the POC
That would be the Honey Tree ID Calculator, link of which is in the description already. You just have to reset over and over until you find an ID that happens to have 2-3 trees out of the 4 (preferably 3 so you have a very miniscule chance of it not working).
