It's always nice to have someone like Tom in the pod, he just wants to have fun and isn't prone to getting too salty like Crim/Tomer/Seth would be. There are even situations where he thinks of cool plays from another guy's perspective.
Having both Tom and Phil this season has made the whole season so far feel a lot more positive and upbeat, and a lot less complaining about getting hit for like 2.
I've watched a few seasons, I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone but Tomer or Richard get truly salty from the crew? Phil has been dog-piled constantly since he started (he usually ends up an early archenemy, costing him the game as he eats up tons of resources from 3 players), Seth just laughs at everything, Crim doesn't even get salty when he's land shorted every game (regardless of how many lands he seems to run lol), I agree Tom is pretty easy going, but Tomer sometimes gets salty in the sense of using 'crying puppy eyes' vs people, puppy eye tears are still salt, Richard gets annoyed when he's screwed over by stuff beyond his control (which is reasonable, especially when you're bringing less pushed decks most of the time). I see way more salt on most other programs. Maybe we have different definitions of salt? salt to me = being visibly upset, possibly scooping or using spite plays that ruin the game for the pod out of frustration with an opponent, making substantial complaints. Just being unhappy with things not going your way/being targeted a bit doesn't cut it, that's just normal, salt is when you react by playing suboptimally to punish someone. For the record, on Commander Clash I think 'playing to the memes' isn't salty, this is entertainment and people have to do silly things to be funny sometimes, there is very much a slapstick element to this channel, where they take influences from The Three Stooges.
Tomer becoming the Richard of this season, just playing a low key threatening board, drawing no ire, letting everyone else kill each other then winning the game as everyone else goes "ohhhhhhhh"

...Just out of curiosity, but how many Dimir decks were you guys thinking of bringing vs a dedicated Enchantments deck? Just curious why you didn't all go Grixis or something, at least Esper can kill Enchantments. I decided to make a Modern deck, and went with Faeries because I always liked Faeries... atm I'm on a staxy sort of control build, it can steal games here and there if people go too slow (I can start a chain of events that leads to my opponents not having untapped lands starting on turn 3, but it uses a lot of resources to do it). It both has too many Dispels and not enough Counterspells, and it runs no Force of Negation. The deck just loses like crazy to anyone running those garbage elementals from MH2 (the non-Blue ones should all be banned if you ask me), because they are technically still creature spells and I can't hold up UU to protect my combo. On the plus side nobody else can, it's just an incredibly stupid bit of design space to make free spells objectively much better by not only not overcosting them discernably, stapling them to creature bodies that can be abused VERY easily, are harder to counter because they are creature spells, and introducing them to Modern which lacks Force of Will to provide an actual answer to the stupid effects at their own efficiency, they are probably fine in Legacy, but they invalidated huge swathes of Modern deck building, you can't build around tall creatures with Solitude out there, you can't build around weenies with Fury, and you can't have a non-land based combo with Grief as a better Thoughtseize. I guess Endurance does a real number on Graveyard decks, but there was already a bajillion cards doing that that mostly sucked, so this might not be a real problem. So yeah, don't play Modern unless you like the idea of running mostly cards from the newest sets, aka a thing nobody plays Modern for, I feel like WotC has pretty much killed Modern with MH, in addition to having gutted Legacy/Vintage in many ways. At least Command Legends: BFBG also busted Legacy/Vintage, that's a cool thing to see? Isn't that what we all want to have, have all of our old staples in Eternal formats rendered bad cards? I wish they'd have just abandoned the Reserve List instead of trying to obsolete it by printing objectively better cards. When I asked for a MTGGoldfish sticker, they didn't give me one, but a bunch of times when I didn't mention it, they did. Mysterious! I use Revised Swamps in my Old School Black deck (I run Fallen Empires stuff too, so it's not weird 93/94 that skips part of 94 just because it can gatekeep harder that way, it's the accessible one. I'm working on making it a reanimator/Thrull deck!), and a few other Revised cards (I have a few old cards, but they aren't good Old School cards generally). I do feel like the Old School format suffers from budget issues, but Restricting lots of stuff helps limit how damaging it is to cheap out on stuff (having zero Ancestral Recalls when you can run x1 barely matters, having x0 vs x4 is 'don't show up' territory). Still, building around Fallen Empires jank is maybe not a 'great' plan, at least I snapped up a couple Antiquities Jalum Tomes back in the day! Maybe x2 in the sideboard? Orcish Lumberjack exists and must always be played with Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, because Gruul also deserves to have Sinkhole, only it needs to be a better card (you actually have 5 mana turn 2 with Lumberjack, so you can also play another 1 drop) because Sinkhole wasn't good enough! I think people don't play Lumberjack because it's hard to play, but it's one of the best ramp effects ever printed. Phil, I also bought the Seeing Visions, but I in contrast am super happy with them. They aren't actually worthless, but they aren't super-valuable atm, Serum Visions needs even more cards to be banned first! Those Serum Visions and Bitterblossom Dreams' art are among my all time Magic favorites, I also grabbed Kaleidoscope Killers, which aged like the finest Sauterne. I am still thinking about using some spare money to try to get ahold of extra copies of Serum Visions, I don't think *that* many copies exist, and if more cards get banned it gets WAY better (seriously, I think Legacy would need to lose 3 cards before you look at Serum Visions as 'the best version of the effect'? Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain are all better generally, but I will say that Serum Visions is INCREDIBLE in certain mono-Blue decks, like mono-Blue Delver (which is a budget deck! Hooray!) or jank like Quest for Ula's Temple (which I run as a weird casual deck, but I don't have enough Serum Visions so I run Ponders and Preordains over them beacuse I had them), it lets you fiddle with the top two cards of your deck, which some decks care a lot about. Guys, I'm sure this isn't popular info, but apparently 'blackguard' is pronounced 'blaggard'. I don't make the rules, I just try to follow them! TBH Oona's Blaggard sounds better, so I don't mind.
