  • Labour MP leader Sir Keir Starmer joins GMB this morning to respond to the earlier comments made by MP George Galloway, as well as his own earlier comments on the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
    Susanna Reid questions Sir Keir Starmer about his previous comments when he said MP Rosie Duffield was wrong to say that only women have a cervix. Plus, Keir Starmer comments on the support of Angela Rayner and says that he doesn't need to look at paperwork relating to her past living arrangements.

      Completely agree, Richard is quite possibly the most out of touch, self obsessed broadcaster I’ve seen. He’s great as a host on shows like this morning where they are less news programmes and more entertainment, but why he’s being appointed as a journalist I don’t know.

      I have just watched this and was utterly appalled at how obnoxiously these ‘interviewers’ approached this. All they achieved was shining a light on how well Sir Keir Starmer conducts himself when faced with such ridiculous questions and inflammatory rhetoric. Disgustingly disrespectful behaviour towards anyone.

      To be fair, 51% of the population are women/girls, and in previous interviews Kier really struggled to clarify what a woman is, so the questions aimed at him were very relevant. He does now seem more in touch with reality & biology.

      It's important. It speaks to his ability to hold an opinion, articulate it clearly, update his opinion as necessary and implement coherent policy. This is a hot topic where there are very vocal pressure groups so his ability to navigate this question is indicative of his ability to lead the government.

      The absolute last thing we need is another highly polarising leader, right or left. The country is becoming ungovernable. Left voters will trash a right government, and vice versa. What we need is a centrist leader that is flexible enough to gain at least grudging consent from all sides. I'm no particular fan of Starmer but he's a capable guy demonstrated by his cv and every week in pmqs.

"here's a clip of something you said 6 months ago without wider context", the show has gone to the dogs and is more about which one of them can interview more aggressively and try to goad panicked answers out of people.

    These interviewers are terrible. They didn't even get him to clarify on whether he'd changed his position on a temporary ceasefire or a permanent one. They didn't press him on his blackmail of the speaker to scupper the SNP's motion for a ceasefire. They didn't press him on all the payments that shadow cabinet members have received from the Israeli government and their lobbyists since October the 7th. They didn't press him on all of his broken pledges. They didn't press him on the wave of Labour councilors leaving the party. They didn't press him on how he can conceivably fund his spending plans.
    Compare this to the way they treated Galloway. Truly terrible interviewers.

    a lot of muslims do not want to vote for labour or tory because of their stance on gaza and so galloway will pick up votes. it's just how many and will they affect the result in a first past the post system.

      I would say that the debate around how Trangender people are seen is still ongoing, to have an evolving position based on understanding the ideas of medical staff and other researchers is the right position to take. Changing your mind based on a changing argument is an intelligent response.

    I would like to see these interviewers replaced. I like them giving difficult questions, but difficult questions require longer answers. Jumping down someone's throat when they're half way through an answer is immature and childish. Please bring in some adults.

      All the rules and restrictions they want to put on trans women fall apart when you point out that those rules would have to apply to trans men as well.
      For example, if trans women have to compete in sports with men, trans men would have to compete with women and they will have a genuine advantage. If trans women have to use male toilets, trans men have to use female toilets, which means a man intent on going in for nefarious reasons only has to walk in and say they're trans, which makes it clear they don't have women's safety in mind at all.

    From now on, for any reason at all, that l don't want to answer any question at all, I'll just say, 'I don't want to turn this discussion toxic', in other words blame the questioner for asking the question in the first place, rather than give a truthful answer.     Isn't it bizarre how Kier Starmer thinks the public are impressed by his being DPP..?     His clarification came 9 days after his original statement. LBC interview on the 11th October, clarification on 20th October so basically he thought he'd get away with his war crimes complicity. If their advisors give them ludicrous advise then why don't they use their own common sense?!
