- This week I got to drive the brand new 2024 Mini Countryman JCW. As a Mini fan the last couple of year have been a little quiet but it is great to get behind the wheel of the all new Countryman John Cooper Works. Bold styling inside and out, 300 horsepower, four wheel drive and some great tech. I had some great roads to play on too !

You have given THE BEST REVIEW as expected from a fellow MINI owner and enthusiast. Thanks for being honest. Thanks for being you.
👍
Had mine 2wks, it’s in the exact same colour config with a level 2 pack which is plenty to play with…!!!!!, but it’s the drive that just stands above everything else. It has that mini go kart feel but within a bigger car which you don’t notice when driving . I really think Mini have designed a winner here it’s fun and funky… well done Mini…
Felt the passion from you today Pete, good to see mini making new cars 🙌
I think you nailed it Pete, a bad day at work can be totally forgotten if you can have a great drive home.
4:38 I will say, although its not as small as the name Mini would lead you to believe (countrymans have always been big), this does look like a very small SUV, which totally still fits the small, MINI theme.
Watching @Petrol Ped Mini reviews you're wondering how he's not yet part of the Mini Marketing Team! 🎉
On the other hand, the new JCW Countryman is an exceptional product, more exclusive than its rivals and really appealing for the young and dynamic audience 💪✌
TY - a man happy in his work! In a world of anodyne blobs on wheels, it's good to see something that's both distinctive and a great drive.
Hey Pete!
Love your thoughts on the Mini Countryman! We Love our New 2024 Countryman and she handles the corners beautifully!!!
And you do find yourself smiling 😊
Thanks Heidi 🙏🏻 Say hi to Steve for me 👍
Love your enthusiasm, it wouldn’t suit if we all liked the same things……I certainly think it has a lot more attitude than a 450hp EV.
As you may remember...I love my Clubmans..on my 3rd, now in JCW guise, sadly no more Clubmans in the future. I've always thought the Countryman too big, too ugly......but........but.......the refresh has worked wonders, in the absence of my fave.....this is definitely a contender!
Well worth a test drive 👍
I was very anti when I first saw pictures, however the new Countryman is the best looking of the new models.
I really enjoyed the review, it looks and no doubt feels a proper premium car. I normally buy cars when they are 5 years old and affordable for me. I’d definitely be interested in one of these in the future.
The Sat Nav with the Augmented Reality is awesome, very clever. Sat Navs have come a long way (No Pun Intended) love your Enthusiasm Peter, there's no doubting that you're a massive Mini fan, and that's one massive Mini. 😃👍
As a 6'4 tall & big unit, I've never looked at mini since walking away from a potential first car back in the early 90s. I remember being peed off that i couldn't fit in the lime green (hand painted) rust bucket that i really wanted. 35 years later a lot has changed but I'm still a big'un. This countryman might mean i finally get into a mini
Something tells me you are going to get one ? !! 😂
😂😂
But Ped has the Porsche now which replaced Charley Clubman and obviously still has Ruby who has had work done so he can be using her more. 🤔 Unless he tries to tell us that Tracey 'needs' one and of course the pups will also be in 'need' of one as he talks himself into how much better one would be for heading off to Cornwall or Wales 😂😂😂
Well Pete I am recovering from an operation feet up watching a great Mini review That interior and sat nav is next level But don’t swop Ruby for one😂👍
Absolutely rubbish car in every sense good luck
One thing I love about the Mini, is the go cart drive. Awesome feeling.
👍
Fantastic review Pete & I test drove one two weeks ago & I totally agree with everything you said about this awesome car good old fashioned petrol engine enjoyment bang on!!!👌🏻👍🏻😎
I completely completely get your enthusiasm for this car Pete, seems an incredible car. Me and my Mrs have said this is in contention to be our next car, wouldn’t be surprised if we get one
I’ve booked a test drive that’s one lovely car external and interior. Great video made my Friday!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@PetrolPed Come on Ped , I know your a brand ambassador but FGS it looks the size and similar shape to the Range Rover .
You keep screaming, go kart feel in this video , yet it weighs 1800 kg , you couldn’t be any less obvious if you tried .
@@BullyBoxer But I'm not a brand ambassador ?! I've driven it...have you ?
As a Clubman SD owner I find it interesting how the Mini has evolved.
Love that interior. So funky and nice to see Mini maintain its quirky features.
Great review as usual.
Tin hat on. Mini JCW £45,700 300 hp 400 Nm 0-60 5.4 seconds. Smart #1 Brabus £43,450 428 hp 543 Nm 0-60 3.7 seconds.
3.7 seconds yes but from an electric car.. big difference in power.
Thanks again for a great review! I have ordered one. I currently drive a 2023 Mini Cooper S Resolute edition and love driving it but after seeing this model at the Auto show had to get one. Nice to see someone who's owned a JCW before love the new JCW. Keep up the great videos!
Enjoy!
Also, love that you are the only reviewer that really pushed the car . Your foot is heavy and I like that!!!!
LOL 😂
Thought it was Ruby for a second.....then I put my glasses on :)
😂😂😂
Looks funky like all minis great to drive and like you said puts a massive smile on your face I’m now on my second mini and 1st jcw 2023 and absolutely love them and that’s coming from a fiesta mk 8 St. great video mate keep up the good work
What a gas man...Looks like fun from down here. Cheers and look forward to an extended test.
I can't believe I'm saying this but love it! Looking forward to extended test!😊
😂😂😂
Thanks for that, very useful piece. We're picking up our very same model on Monday and trading in our 2020 JCW Countryman. Looking forward to the new experience!😀
Glad it was helpful!
Unashamedly a fan... love it!
👍
Been waiting for this 🤩
Not bad, Mini's are lovely to drive however, do i detect the exhaust note piped in to the cabin through the audio system?
Actually had a maxi back in the day and loved it. Those dimensions are almost the same as my Jeep wow. Have to say always loved the mini I had and you seem to be really taken by this one
AWD, mechanical diff, M2 brakes. This is a proper car.
I loved the old rounded key, it was easily identifiable and undeniably “Mini”
Glad they finally added BMW's Driver Assistance Pro package with lane centering + smart cruise!🎉🎉🎉
Sat in one last Saturday (picking up my new cooper s hatch) and its massive ! But the looks and the quad tailpipes sold it me, absolutely love it !
That Mini smile - you just can't beat it :)
Indeed 👍
Stunning design SO Mini, and with your obvious facial delight says it all. Excellent vid with plenty of info content. Sod it, I need to try one. 😎😎
You do 👍
Well Pete just sat at home recovering from an operation What a great review loved the interior and sat nav is next level Don’t swop Ruby 😂👍
My favorite piece of road Pete Bibury to the A40, I drive it every Friday, they resurfaced half of it last year great improvement if its clear what a quick drive, glad you enjoyed it in the new Mini which looks really good. I then have a slow drive through Burford and onto Harry's favorite road, love my Friday afternoon drive each week
Not a fan of SUVs But as a Mini F56 JCW LCI2 owner I’d love one of these Looks fabulous ❤
Great video thank you for sharing this epic story of the new mini world
Our pleasure!
Had a 2011 Clubman Cooper S with a rare auto gearbox a few years ago. Absolutely loved it and and still miss it (I changed it for a Tesla). If this new Countryman has the space and comfort for longer journeys, like driving to the Alps with teens in the back, it could be a contender for our next car.
The previous generation looks a lot better, IMHO
Great Review, so much passion, well marketed. Makes me want to go ahead and get a mini.
Go for it!
Got one on order, roll on April, now I have seen this video I can’t wait!!!!
Lucky you 👍👍
We think you enjoyed that Pete 👍. We had a good look around one recently and were quite impressed
Currently have a JCW Clubman and contemplating the Countryman. Kids getting bigger and more room for golf clubs while keeping the fun.
Should be calling it the Maxi now... Great looking car, I've had augmented reality on satnav on my Merc since 2018 but that system works really well by the looks of it!
i'm getting the feeling you enjoyed this one Pedro... Great review and great looking car.
😂😂😂
Evening all! Hope everyone is doing well and have a great weekend.
Good morning!
Was in the dealers yesterday (BMW MOT) and they had one of these in the showroom, same colours as this one, very smart inside and out. I think they had an electric demonstrator too.
Superb review of an Innovative shopping rocket. I bet it's brilliant fun though and I salute your pretty convincing defence of the indefensible xD
Great video as ever. I’m guessing it probably because it’s what I’m used to being there. But think it would look better with a screen in front of the steering wheel rather than all being in that screen in the middle. Although I guess you have the head up display. How does CarPlay look on that screen?
Hi Pete I saw this model down at Chandlers Worthing in showroom looks fantastic love to drive this car . Hope to see you in this beauty at Waitrose in Chi ? All the best Andrew😎
Coming to Waitrose soon 😂
Love this, she looks amazing and lots of fun ! Test driving one soon 😊.
You should! Very pup friendly 😜👍
@@PetrolPed Haha that’s what I’m thinking - much more sensible for them !
06:14 - "there's still room enough room in here for normal person" 😂😂😂 Another reason why I sub!🍺
😂😂😂
What a brilliant review!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Cracking review, Pete, I could be tempted. I can see a Charlie Clubman replacement in the offing, with obligatory red mudflaps too, which wouldn't be too out of place on this colour combination.
Mud flaps… now theres a thought 😂
Saw one of those today - looked great. Unfortunately it passed me on the motorway so didn't get much time to look at it 🙂
I love it and have already put in my order for one….🥳🥳🥳🥳
Looks like you had an amazing time! 🚘
Yep 👍
Look fantastic and so unique 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
I like the interior colour scheme. My OAP body would also appreciate climbing in through the rear doors. Why Austin never made these as 4-door cars back in my day is quite beyond me. I'd have bought one then. Ah, well...better late than never. Aloha!
Loved the car! Loved the review! Petrol engine ❤
Glad you liked it!!
I absolutely love it, I'm waiting for my local dealer to get a demo in for me to test drive 😁
You’ll love it 👍
This is a good one. A petrol Mini JCW would be even better.
Fantastic review! I’d love to have one of these, it looks amazing (inside and out), it’s practical and seems like it’s great to drive. Out of my price range at the moment (along with most cars tbh) but perhaps at some point, it won’t be.
You like it I love it who needs electric cars when you can have one of those gets you from a to B very quickly put a smile on your face. It would put a smile on mine love it have a good one 😀😀😀👍
Great review - so he’s passionate about the car well that’s because he likes it 👍🏼 great car
Thanks! 👍
Pete, I had a Clubman JCW, pretty-much identical to yours, and like you, I loved it! I went to see this new Countryman, and was immediately compelled to put my hand in my pocket, and buy…………….another Clubman JCW!! And have to confess, your “attempted” gushing review of this car, makes me realise, I made the right decision. Nothing I’ve seen or heard about this car makes me feel it’s in any way superior to (or even a match for) the sublime Clubman JCW.
Thanks!
Wow thank you 🙏🏻
It made me smile .
Awesome video! What's your take on the knitted material used for the dashboard and some parts of the seats? Can it be easily cleaned or maintained after a spill ? What are the long term wear effects, odours, sun exposure, dust etc?
I’m sure it would clean Ok 👍
Hi Pete you've lit up on your video tonight which I can totally understand I also loved my old mini. Would this new countryman fit in a normal parking space. Great car but I had a very negative experience with my local dealership that's why I left they did some major external work which wasn't done right I had to complain.
Wow Sir Pete! Great review! The clubman and countrymen are definitely on my radar! I’m not sold on the front end design but the rest of the countrymen exterior and interior are great! Definitely makes me want to get one! Excellent review Sir Pete
Cheers mate 🙏🏻👍
Always love your reviews Pete and it’s another job well done 👍 Tech spec Is great on this new Countryman JCW, there’s no doubting that, looks like a fabulous car to drive but hey! What’s going on with that interior? Those red stripes on the dashboard, that over thick sterling wheel and although it looks funky am not sure how easy the round info screen would be to live with.
Hope you can get one for a week or two, that’d be an interesting vlog 😁
Thanks 👍
Good review. Interesting that they came out with the top spec JCW version first. The more standard Countryman S all4 will be out later this year. I drive a gen3 Countryman (F60), and look forward to test driving this new gen4. I appreciate your enthusiasm and your love for the Mini brand. Keep up the good work.
If you don’t really need the performance. The Countryman C from £30k is the one to go for 👍
Great review mate. Wasn't sure on the looks when I first saw it but it's certainly growing on me now. Will you be reviewing the C & S versions ? I've got an extended test drive in a couple of weeks with the S and can't wait.
Thanks for the great review Pete. i hate it when people always say it's not a MINI anymore. what about the people who still love the brand and need a larger car. What about the original Golf and the Gold 7 and 8 why do they not say.....This is not a Golf anymore. I think you will end up buying one.
A part of me hates the idea of a 4,4m 1.7 tonne mini. But if you buy an suv anyway it can just have an interior as this one and drive like a super mini. I might believe you're going to buy one.
Love your passionate review. I can feel your happiness. I prefer this Mini countryman to BMW X1/X2. I don’t need JCW version, but S is enough. The B48 engine is really good.
I much prefer the looks vs the old one - chunky, lots of features. And I love that some people think it’s ugly, too big etc. Difference in opinions means more diversity in car design. Which is good.
Spotted one of these (non JCW) in the wild today in Infracombe. Very cool looking thing.
Indeed 👍
We all have a soft spot for a mini. I know it has grown but so have all the other cars out there. Looks ok to me. Is it reliable? Its predecessors were not great on reliability. I like the interior and your right that round central display is an evolution using technology.
Great show and lovely car but 45k for a mini - the world is bonkers!!!
Still looks like a good value proposition in relation to the Porsche Macan and other similar small suvs
Drove one on Saturday morning and loved it enough to buy one. Night and day from the bloated and floaty previous version, just waiting for confirmed build slot and delivery date now
Nice 👌
I bought a Mini in 2010 just to use as a commuter car. I wanted something cheap and fun to drive and something that got good gas mileage. Well this Mini was just the ticket and, unfortunately, it is just a base model Cooper with a 6 speed manual. This car has been a blast. It is now 14 years old and it still puts a smile on me face and will get over 40 mpg's.
Love this 👍
Come on Pete own up, if you manage to talk Mini into on a long term test you just know you’ll be ordering one at the end. Bikes, dogs, long trips, it’s just made for the job. 😎😎
What this space 😜
Your voice and facial expressions just give you away mate. Clearly it was all over after about 100 metres of driving. 😆😆
For an SUV it's a much better design than many with a lot of room and storage. For once this is a rather god new car. Im off to look at one!
I think I would need to see it in the flesh before I said yes but after another excellent review by yourself it is getting a thumbs up so far. I do like the rear with the quad exhausts. I like the rear spoiler. As you know I do like my JLR cars & although I have never owned an Evoque I have driven plenty. The Countryman would be the only other car I would consider in this segment other than the E-Pace. My only negative is the dashboard in that spec with the red but I am sure there are other options. I bought my JCW hatch after seeing a Countryman JCW & liking the styling so if I was in the market I would certainly consider this car.
Definitely need to see it in person 👍
I get what you mean about the mini go kart feel I had a cooper s hatch and then had a clubman s and with it being longer I thought it would drive different but it really was the same to drive as the hatch weird but brilliant
Yes Pete.... got you written all over it.
We had a few through at the dealership for new reg day (including a 47k JCW).
They are big but built on the new BMW X1 chassis (the JCW has 20" rims) so do handle & feel upmarket.
A look of Range Rover at the rear as you said, a full black one we had was compared to a mini RR Cullinan (BMW family I guess)!😂
Night time is interesting as the themes you played with include matching led pattern projection across the dashboard (giving a completely different looking dash for each one).
Big step forward all round, the only thing i'd say though is .....
Keep the petrol pooch & pup off of those lovely woven door cards & dash 🤦♂️
Oh & the interior door handles look like Nissan 350Z external ones.... not sure why.
Great car though.
I love the old style of mini models 😂
Wow Pete a Petrol version. I b et you're tempted though to add one to your collection ? I totally agree also, This car makes you see the end of complications !! 👍👍😂
Love it ❤
I love it!!!!
Fantastic review, son and I have tickets to see you and Tiff at Beaulieu on the 16th. Looking forward to it.
Oh amazing. Make sure you come and say hi 👋
I love the looks of it, especially the back, even more so with the union flag on the lights. The interior looks nice - my only concern is the problem of dust getting in the kitted dash. Apart from that minor setback, I want one, I really want one. (The electric SE version though.)
Love it!!
Glad you like it!
