This is the most organic project she’s released. I love how short it is, how consistent it is, how natural she looks and sounds, how honest she’s being. “Talk To Me Nice” & “Uh Huh” are just as beautiful as the visuals she paired them with. (Needs isn’t MY vibe lyrically but still a consistent, well written and produced cut) Definitely my favorite Tinashe project, concept, aesthetic. I’ll always want her to succeed because of who she is as a woman, an artist, an OG bedroom singer songwriter
Zach Campbell was harder on her though, she got him with Songs For You album and the Bouncin’ video. Way more people need to be talking about her videos! X was dope as hell. Nightride (her rebel against RCA Fuccery album-not mixtape-album) is a Classic at this point and it has aged very well.

She deserves to blow up.

The way you broke down the narrative of the album actually pairs well with the length of the project. Because it's so short I often unknowingly find myself back at the top of the album listening to it in a loop on repeat. As you said, Tightrope concludes the story where things could go either way...she could break loose from this relationship or she could find herself back in it and that's what happens when I start the album from the top again. It's a short, sweet and addictive cycle.

When I heard that her album was going to only be 7 tracks, I was disappointed. But this is a tight 7 tracks that doesn't have a skip. She's always had a few songs I would need to skip on her albums (and I'm saying this as a fan), so I'm glad she has learned how to refine, cut, and edit. I'm really looking forward to where she's going; her upcoming co-headlining tour with Shygirl also excites me, I'd love to see more collaboration between the two. I think Tinashe has what it takes to really become a great artist who has long-term success. It's really easy to see a very positive trajectory to her artistic skill when looking at her albums.

I love how Tinashe has been refining and expanding her sound ever since she went independent. Her music under RCA was anything but average though; Aquarius and Nightride have some experimental cuts, and are two of the most interesting albums from the 10s alt/r&b wave (which Tinashe helped usher in tbh). BB/Angel feels both like a full circle moment to Tinashe’s mixtape roots, while also expanding her universe with new sounds. There’s no misses tbh, hope we get a follow up soon.
You mentioned not liking most of her past work under RCA, but I think you need to go back and listen to "Nightride" (not to be confused with "Joyride", although it too had bops).
At the time I believe he said Nightride was "FKA Twigs for normies" 💀 As a fan of both I couldn't disagree more, Nightride is special and feels authentic. There's allowed to be someone killing it in that middle ground between left field alt rnb and commercial rnb. He also didn't like Joyride, though that's kind of understandable even though I still find plenty to love on that album. But yes, I think maybe a revisit could change his perspective.
As a Tinashe fan since Day 1, I still feel her best projects are her trilogy of mixtapes before her debut album Aquarius. In Case We Die is perfect and still packs a punch, Reverie was heavenly in sound and execution and Black Water was an amazing follow up to them both. I feel she has other good to great projects but those 3 mixtapes are untouchable
I remember when "Too On" was the biggest song in the world, a scammer flew around to multiple countries and held dancer auditions for a fake Tinashe tour and charged money for it. They made tens of thousands of dollars then dissapeared when Tinashe herself went on Twitter and said that there was no tour planned lol.

In Case We Die, Reverie, Black Water - ALL of these projects are just as left field and sonically compelling as BB/ANG3L, and still sound current despite being over 10 years old. I would probably rank them higher if I had to choose.

I was surprised to hear you say this is your favorite Tinashe project so far! I do love it, don't get me wrong, but have you heard her early mixtapes that came out before she was signed? In Case We Die, Reverie, Black Water - ALL of these projects are just as left field and sonically compelling as BB/ANG3L, and still sound current despite being over 10 years old. I would probably rank them higher if I had to choose.
