    My friend wrote the land use plan for Taylor County and I'm sure he would be glad to hear you chose it. Unfortunately he passed away about 10 year's ago. He lived in Keaton Beach and worked in Perry. Still miss his enthusiasm for life.

    One thing I learned about Florida, it is a lot easier to boondock in the panhandle than the peninsula. Thanks for the information

    My husband was crazy about your channel and we watched every video you guys made together. He lost his life to cancer 3 wks ago tomorrow and I know he is still watching your guys and wishing you well. Sept. would have been our 40th wedding anniversary... In honor of my husband, I will always watch your videos because I know he will be sitting next to me while I watch you guys..... I’ve always noticed right from the beginning that you both have great taste in all you do. You both do the homework to make smart decisions. For example... you have the best of both worlds, you can live the full time RV life style while owning land that is increasing in value and you have permanent income should you decide to rent out. When you desire the full time RV lifestyle like most of us do who will be watching this, you have appreciating land that helps make up for the de appreciating RV, Very very smart. The biggest value to all of this is you guys are living your dream! With your son! Congratulations guys, you nailed it! Thanks for sharing

      Thank you so much Latada! You always have the nicest comments :) We are so blessed to live this lifestyle and enjoy it together. The only downside is that we tend to get each other in trouble with our crazy ideas...like returning to the Appalachian Trail soon. Usually there is one partner in a relationship that is grounded but we had no breaks. Yikes!!!! ❤️

    Welcome to open spaces. We just bought a place in Dixie cnty and can't wait to get moved up there. I have spent the last 30+ yrs living in Bradenton and we have had enough. So we found a house in need on 2.5 acrs and snagged it. Our situation won't let us move yet but we need time to whip the house into shape. Added so far, new metal roof, new septic and new well pump. We just got the results of the water quality test and it is good. I think the well is in a spring.
    Many homes here have RVs on their property.
    Besides Bradenton becoming crowded Irma has played a big part in this move too. 38 hours from Bradenton to Destin with a cain on your tail, well that was enough. Good luck with your plans, and maybe we should keep this area on the DL.

      Doug, congratulations. It appears you may be keeping the home on the property. Did you research and verify if you can build a home base in Dixie County like ACA are doing in Taylor? I found some property across the Suwanee River from Gilchrist County in Dixie that I would love to consider if building a home base is viable there. Good luck with your property!

I can tell you the only time we got a little worried was when the hurricanes come through your property. Be careful with limbs and trees falling on your home. I agree, I have been researching property in Taylor County since watching your video series about establishing a home base. It would be very helpful to have an idea of the costs that you have incurred for putting in water, septic, power, and Internet.
      Looking at all the options available in Taylor County with Raw land and land that has The utility use and so on. installed.
      Of course, the role land is less expensive then the land with utilities, et cetera. Having an idea of costs for comparison will be of
      Enormous benefit!
      This is something I've been thinking about doing for a while and your videos have given me impetus to get moving on it. Thank you again

    • @averagecampers
      @averagecampers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You should expect to spend 20k and a little sweat equity to achieve a similar goal on 1 acre. This price includes septic 3000, power 800, well 2500 and drive 700. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for watching.

    Hi Robert and Patricia, I'm a new subscriber of yours sent over by Traveling Robert. You two are truly inspirational in showing others how they too can achieve a simpler way of life. Years ago, we were attendees of the, Mr. RV himself, Gaylord Maxwell's Life On Wheels RV Conferences in Bowling Green, KY. We've owned a small Arctic Fox 5th Wheel and were previous owners of a weekend get-away tiny home cabin in the Olympia, Washington area. We love the lifestyle. We're now at a point where we're seriously looking for a "retirement something", but just not really sure what that "something" might be. We know we want a much simpler life and I'm not convinced that downsizing to a smaller sticks-n-bricks option would be the best one since we would like to also travel. After watching your "Full Time RV Home Base" video series, you have the best of both worlds. You can travel while also having a permanent "roots" home base to come back to when you want (with chickens, too). Perhaps we will look into the possibilities of becoming a part of your RV neighborhood. We'll certainly give Shan a call if we decide we need more "property specific" information and availability in the Taylor County area. Thank you so much for your channel and sharing your experiences. I am most grateful.

We may sell in a few years but think we would need a home base. We too are struck with how hard it is to get a campsite here in FL and buying land makes perfect sense. My question is…did you live in that general area of FL (or someplace similar) when you were residents here or did you go with something different?

    • @averagecampers
      @averagecampers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Change can happen for future properties but they can not change a property once established. Of course the government can still take it if they want to build a road :)

    • @things_that_click

      @@averagecampers I had considered Horseshoe beach, the town lets you own and park, but the septic systems need to be the expensive aeration style and if a hurricane warning comes up you must move your rig or they will move it for you. It's a neat spot but it gets noisy during scallop season, buying out in the wilderness is the way to go.

    Thank you both again for sharing! Taylor County should make you part of their Chamber of Commerce! I am confident the number of Zillow/Realtor.com hits for their area went up exponentially after your video. Its sad other counties in FL (and most states) do not consider the value of allowing quality RV use developed land.
    I found 5 properties in Gilchrist County FL that have already been developed specifically for RVs (50 amp, well, RV septic). I called the county to inquire if I purchased one, if I could add a garage. They said not only could they not be developed any further without a traditional home, they would enforce the limit of 120 days in a row of “use” or 180 total days per year and a permit is needed for that period. Even with the land previously approved to add the RV facilities? They said basically the permits were issued in error and should not have been.
    Very disheartening.
    I am trying to confirm if simply storing an RV is permitted beyond 180 days. I am not optimistic. I would like to stay a little further south than Taylor County, but is it not looking very likely.
    Thanks again!

With the added shade, cooling our RV in the summer was far less taxing on the AC units and the roof protection reduces wear on the roof seals. Hey, This is the second time I've watched this vid and a question that came up for me this time is if the county allows you to rent out a hookup or two or if that would have a seperate zoning ordinance? I've noticed that smallish lots with little groupings of trailers isn't uncommon in rural areas of FL, but do they allow that for rvs, especially if someone wanted to rent a spot year round on your land? Have you heard anything about restrictions on solar? Thanks. :)

      Further South was much more difficult to find land at a reasonable price and with RV friendly Counties. Our zoning is multi residential. No financing needed because the price was very reasonable. Good questions and thank you so much for watching Jodi.

      Would love to see a video on explaining the land search process from all the websites searched, zonings to look at, cost of drilling you well in that county, electric install costs and septic costs. All the details for those like me trying to sort it all out and know the costs involved and the process and so on. I know it seems like I want to know a lot but I am a serious one like you guys in getting my own land and official homesteading to some extent.

      Great idea! Until then we can tell you that you should expect to spend about 20k to set up a property on 1 acre. A little sweat equity goes a long way if you have to clear the land.
