    Not sure about "Australia not delivering on Tech" part.
    Here is some Australian Tech:
    - black box for planes
    - Electronic pacemaker
    - Google Maps
    - Atlassian
    - Plastic money
    - Bionic ear
    - Wifi
    - Ultrasound scanner

    I think science should be government supported, because scientific research rarely pays for itself over one year, or even five, it can take many years, decades and even centuries before a discovery in science or maths has a commercial application.

      The Australian government is more interested in killing the entire tech industry by making encryption illegal while continuously mining coal. State & Territory governments are mixed bunch and can't figure out how and what to support, and local governments are opposed to innovation because it wasn't the "council's idea".

    This is at least dealing with the real environment out there - so many productions follow a generic, dreary formula that results in zero engagement. Having a genuine conversation with people is the way! We need to promote and open up the tech idustry, and the Web/Digital creatives in Australia, it is here but people are just not aware of it!

      Federal government wants to ban encryption, state/territory governments can't make up their minds on what benefits their state/territory, and local councils are opposed to innovation because it wasn't the "council's idea". Although taxes have been a little bit reduced and there's plenty of public/private funding around, a myriad of political and bureaucratic nonsense does not make it viable/feasible to establish a successful startup in Australia.

  • @darkmath100
    @darkmath100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Australia has too much Socialism to be good at technology. Science and tech are %1 inspiration and %99 perspiration. To be good you need to work 80 hour weeks for years. A human being can only put out that much work if there's no reliable Safety Net to quell your anxiety. Fear is a great motivator. The thought of losing your house tends to sharpen the senses remarkably.
    Europe is another technology waste land for the same reason. The Dole turns engineers soft. Can you think of a famous tech company other than SAP? I can't either.

      Your view is incredibly simplistic and lacks any real substance. Australia actually produces some of the most brilliant techies in the world, but the big companies all exist in the United States and thus they're drawn out of country. And as our country has low density populations compared to the US, technology start ups have a hard time with employing technologies were infrastructure is required.

    • @darkmath100
      @darkmath100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      King Kylos "produces some of the most brilliant techies".....I'm sure it does. But them leaving Australia to work in America just proves my point, it doesn't contradict it. The same thing is happening on a much larger scale with South and Central Americans fleeing their Socialist countries to find a better life in the non-Socialist U.S.A.. Millions of Brazilians, Venezuelans, Mexicans etc can't leave their Socialist Paradises fast enough.
      And ditto for "infrastructure", tech companies need lots of MONEY to get going. But if your government is taxing the top %1 to death then, duh, they won't have any money left to, duh, invest in new start ups.
      Come on dude, this is basic economics. The problem is only Conservatives know this. Socialists hate to be told they're wrong. Sorry, but you lose.
      ;-)
