- Maria Ressa, the journalist and founder of the Philippine news organisation Rappler, said she was 'speechless' after learning of her Nobel peace prize win while participating in a panel discussion on journalism in south-east Asia.

Ressa could be seen answering a call from the Norwegian Nobel committee informing her of her win on the event's live video feed. Reacting with visible shock, she briefly left the panel to continue the call. 'It's a recognition of how we're going to win the battle for truth,' she said, after returning to the discussion. 'We hold the line.'

Sorry to say, but it was obviously scripted (I guess in preparation for the 2022 PH National elections). Not sure if anyone noticed that the caller told her that it was a live streaming call… yet he said “don’t tell it to anyone yet” 🤣 Sometimes if we think deeper, we can be more intelligent than those prominent ones. ‘Not all that GLITTERS is GOLD !’ 😉
@@iceberg_0703 of course it's scripted, but that doesn't diminish the significance of the event. A number of significant historical events were scripted, e.g. the flag raising on Iwo Jima, the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri, the Moon landing (Armstrong came prepared with his "one small step" line even before he stepped out of the LEM).

In my opinion the Indian News Anchors Ashutosh and Ravish Kumar should also be included in this list for the Nobel Prize as they both are struggling very hard to expose the autocratic, undemocratic and unconstitutional operations of the Modi Government in India. It could have given a new life and encouragement to India's independent journalism for saving the 75 years old liberty, democracy and freedom of India.

I agree. It probably would have made a bigger impact sharing the Peace Prize amongst 4 recipients than 2. If for nothing else, it would have made people curious about the causes they’re fighting for and find out more about the fight for press freedoms against autocratic/authoritarian regimes.

Back in my day, a number of journalists have fallen victim to getting "salvaged", so much so that t-shirts that said "Don't Shoot Journalists" became an item. One day I wore such a shirt and was ordered at gunpoint by a Philippine Constabulary to get off the bus. At that moment, my romanticized dream of becoming a journalist got nipped in the bud.
My point is that Ressa shows courage for what she does. The Nobel Peace Prize is nice, but she doesn't need it to validate her contribution not just to journalism, but to the spirit of courage in the face of tyranny.
