      A tiny magnet would hold that annoying little flap on the husky up

      You’re welcome. Then you’ll also have a little magnet handy to magnetize screwdriver tips. You just scrape the magnet along the shaft of the screwdriver from the bottom to the tip. There’s TH-cam videos on how to do it it

    For that locking hasp. My old school craftsman box was identical. I glued a small magnet to c0ver. It holds hasp up all the time.

      That's a really great solution and definitely worth the mod if one were to pick up the toolbox for $20. Thanks for sharing, Ray!

    On the Husky box, Velcro will keep that latch in place until you want to lock it!

    Use velour felt vinyl wrap for drawer liners

      Very cool idea, thanks for the suggestion! I went with drawer liner from Harbor Freight, you can get a roll for like 8 bucks.

    For the Gearwrench your just better of getting the 243pc mechanic tool box set. Were everything is already organized.

    • @mldiy
      @mldiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mikey, totally agree. If you're just looking for a one-and-done solution, its hard to argue against picking up a tool cube and calling it a day. I like that 243pc from GEARWRENCH. I similarly recommend the 232-Piece version with ratcheting wrenches in my video here: th-cam.com/video/gp_KDDyscTw/w-d-xo.html.
      For me, the additional metal toolbox is for the next step. One is going to accumulate pliers, picks, pry bars, extensions, specialty sockets, trim removal tools, tire pressure gauges, brake caliper hooks, etc. Those have to go somewhere and a toolbox with drawers might be a great way to keep all that stuff organized.
      I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, Mikey. I hope you'll watch some of my other GEARWRENCH videos, or subscribe with one click here to see one of my future videos. www.youtube.com/@mldiy?sub_confirmation=1 Thank you again!

      Yes, but not if you just need another box as your tools outgrow current storage.

    "The gear wrench drawers feel thicker". "They both weigh 17.8 lbs." They're the same box made at the same factory chief.

      Yea I don't think you'll find it as low as I did, maybe ever again. This video is 1.5 years old and holiday 2022 was a crazy year where everything was overstocked and on clearance sales. Now with inflation it's probably even hard to find on sale.

    I have the Husky, only real issue is that I keep it in the trunk of the car and a good speed bump, pot hole or road kill will pop the trays up enough to bypass the lid lock. So if there's a bad enough bump I'll have to open the lid, close all the trays and close the lid or I'll have tools bouncing around everywhere. I keep the trays simple bottom is sockets, middle is pliers, and top is screw drivers to keep the center of gravity low and the top with the parts tray is basically a junk drawer for whatever I'm working on. Tend to keep box cutters, pencils, zip ties, hose clamps whatever in the top. Works well enough, If you still have them both I'd close them and give them a good hard shake to see if the Gearwrench trays pop loose.
    The latch is annoying though but either a small magnet or a cut off wheel solves that.

      Dirk, that's a really interesting tidbit and one I would have never thought could happen until you brought it up. Let me get back to you if I find some time to verify how the Gearwrench behaves. I don't know if you saw mos8541's comment, but he suggested magnets on the back of the drawers to keep them securely closed. May need stronger magnets in your situation. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and to watch my video. I make videos like this weekly so I hope you'll come back for the next one. @@mldiy Yeah I never thought it was an issue till I had sockets rattling around. I'm currently going with a simple tray lock bar, just a thin piece of metal that attaches at the bottom and the latch. If I could find one small enough I'd want a pry bar to do it as it'd pull double duty.

  • @mos8541
    @mos8541 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    so?? put a tiny magnet on the latch, now its out the way, IF thats an issue, i like the fact its flexible, some Dont. I use magnets all over the place to hold latches, to hold those locking bars up/down AND SUPER HACK i glue cheapie magnets on the back so older boxes drawers dont move

    • @mldiy
      @mldiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mos, that's a really awesome tip, especially on the back of older drawers. I really appreciate you sharing. Where do you buy your magnets? I saw some at Harbor Freight but don't know if there's a better alternative. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and watch my video.

    cant beat the husky for that price, you can buy 3 of them and have triple the space than the gear wrench 😂. i bought the husky box 15 years ago like 40 dlls

    • @mldiy
      @mldiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a great box and totally worth $40. But you having yours for 15 years says a lot about the box too. I ended up keeping both and will use them for different purposes. I think the Husky will be great putting misc bits, accessories, attachments, etc. The drawers will make it so easy to find those things over a standard toolbox with trays or tool bag. It's in my queue to make a video about it so if you want to come back and check that out, you can one click subscribe here for future videos www.youtube.com/@mldiy?sub_confirmation=1 Thanks so much for watching and taking a moment to leave a comment!

    End up sticking with the Gearwrench? How's it been holding up?

    • @mldiy
      @mldiy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I ended up keeping both just because the Husky was so cheap, but using the GW one. It's great. Drawers are smooth. I ended up buying a roll of Harbor Freight drawer liner and that helped a lot. The top box is a little short for 1/2" deep impact sockets once you put them in a socket organizer. So it doesn't latch but works for me since I keep the box in one place. I hope this helps. Happy to answer any other questions. Thanks for watching and commenting!
