I was born in 96 and this is the game that got me into gaming as a whole. My mom (amazingly enough) used to be a "gamer" back in the days. I was around 4-5 years old and we would play this. I'm from Sweden so I didn't know anything that they were saying in the game at the time. But my mom got stuck at some points in the game, but me being a stubborn little shit that I was, tried everything and basically brute-forced my way through the game along with her. Somewhere along the road she unfortunately stopped playing games. But we still talk about LBA2 and other games that we (mostly she) used to play. Even though some things are really bad by todays standard (especially the voice acting) I can't help to find it charming. I guess I should thank nostalgia for that. Thanks for the video man. Even though I've replayed it countless times since my childhood, it's great to see other people that enjoyed it as much as me.
Man, I couldn't imagine my first experience with Twisen's Odyssey being devoid of music. Stepping out of your house and hearing the Empire theme by Philippe Vachey along with the rain is an experience that is etched into my brain forever.
It's magnificent, epic. The whole soundtrack is wonderful is highly nostagic, especially if you played the game as a child and are now revisiting it over 20 years later (like me).
Wow, this might be my spouse's favorite childhood game, and he introduced it to me some years ago. Took me a while to finish, but I enjoyed its charm and how much my spouse talked about it. We even kept a lot of the soundtrack in our playlists to enjoy now and again years afterward. I can't believe I still remember sound bytes like "Rabbibunni melba!" or the protagonist's child-like grunts and growls when in aggressive mode. If I recall it took FOREVER for one of the creators to get those rights back, but good on him. I'm going to check out that other game some time. Thanks for this review, I look forward to sharing it with one of the game's super fans, haha.
It's my all time favourite game. I've played it as a child in the 90s and it was sooo hard! My dad had to help me several times and it took us many months to finish the game. Nowadays I finish the game in one day. But I still love it. I love it how you start so innocently wanting to heal your dinofly and later you have to save your planet.
On another note, I need to give this game a go in english, as I played it in french back then. The english dialogues look a lot less serious like wth was Twinsen making a joke at Funfroc) and the voice acting more involved. Also I'm shocked at how I did most of the things you mentioned in the video as a 7 yo kid back in 1997 despite there being no internet back then to share tips and stuff. I'm pretty sure I've always done the crystal skip and never went through the "proper" path. Doing the ferry skip by accident is also how I first got to Desert Island (in my version of the game, the ferry was still docked during the rain so trying to use the ticket there just made sense. Strangely in your version they removed the ferry but kept the exploit) and I had no idea what was going on with the aliens and stuff since I didn't see them land. I also had arachnophobia so to enter the cave to the game's first Boss and free the lighthouse guard I had mastered the art of jumping directly onto the cliff to skip the spider enemy, while hitting a slope so Twinsen would slide and avoid fall damage. Also the very first time I saw lava in the game I had an "appel du vide"-type reaction that made me jump into the lava right away to see what would happen. Seeing Twinsen's texture become lava-like as he sinks and flails into lava without so much as a scream has haunted my dreams as a kid. I also remained stuck on the Desert island for a long time because I was so fucking scared of the school of magic's entrance. That scary moving face really did its job. (also that gnome in the cemetery calling for help while bats sweep to try and hit you reinforced the panic)
The LBAs are amazing. Don't know why there aren't more ppl talking about them. Totally unique games. LBA1 was made in '94 and not many games from that year featured its kind of graphics and music.
i remember playing Little Big Adventure 1 at a store as a kid on a demo computer while i waited for my dad to finish buying stuff... it always seemed so intriguingly mysterious, like i was gonna get isekai’d into it
I'm totally in same boat. Played this game super young, finished it (a rarity for me at the time) and loooved it. The sense of adventure and discovery was quite unique. VERY happy to see it get some love
This game brings me so many memories. My first contact with it was with a demo and I remember having chickenpox right after I played it. I showed the demo to a friend and his parents later purchased the game for him. I borrowed it a few times. We got stuck on the Francos/Knarta fragment key. The note from the mayor didn't help, probably due to a mistranslation. Oh yeah, the game was translated to Brazilian Portuguese but the quality wasn't the best. As you can imagine, it wasn't a popular game. So there wasn't many walkthrough for it. It took a while and internet access to find the proper location for the fragment key. I've finished this game 4 times in different decades of my life and it still amazes me. And every one I know that played it back then, remembers it with love. Thanks for the review
I also played the RIP version when I was a kid. The reason the pirates removed audio was to reduce the size. Downloading a full CD-rom would take ages in the 90s, and it would probably also use up all the monthly limit on data you had. Also you had pirate CD-roms with a whole bunch of ripped games. Basically, they ripped games to distribute them more easily.
I had a very similar experience with this game growing up, but it was a game i would borrow from a friend constantly, it had those big pc-game packaging things that always gripped my attention. I was always amazed with the length of the game, being used to much shorter games at the time, so just the fact that the game continued after you fixed the stormy weather was mind boggling to me. And a note on the music, i don't know if you ever got to hear it, but the installation music for the game is a real banger.
I also played it thru a pirated copy. My sister and I had tons of fun playing Got it on steam and we both almost wept hearing the music again after all these years.
My absolute favourite game of my childhood! I played it in 1999 on a Pentium 2 and also had a pirated copy without music! Thank you for this amazing video and trip down nostalgia lane
I feel like mostly us Europeans remember this game. It was awesome, I'm almost sure I still have the original CD somewhere in my collection... despite never having played the first game, or even understanding English that well which lead me to not really understand the plot/tasks to do.
This game and the first are also some of my favorite games from my childhood. I had the first one and beat it and then remember seeing Twinsen's Odyssey in a COMPUSA and had to get the sequel. I was not disappointed. I also purchased them on STEAM to replay them, can't wait!
God I love this game. I basically grew up with this game and MDK (like you I didn't play the first game til years later) and god they're still so much fun. I try and play these and MDK at least once a year because they have this unique charm and fun to them. Of cool note the original composer created a Kickstarter last year for a Symphonic Suite version of the soundtrack on multiple media forms (WHICH I MISSED!!) which sounds really good. On the android port of 1 it's actually pretty good. DotEmu have done some good mobile ports and this one is done real well. It lets you zoom out the map more and has a pretty well designed control screen that makes use of the touchscreen or you can use Virtual buttons (they also removed the sprinting into walls damage which is huge). Great video that really brought back some memories of playing my own pirated copy back in the day (own the big boxes now though yay). May have to play it myself when I get home. Hope to see more vids like this from you and need to play your game.
Always lovely to hear from others who were touched by this game. And I love the extemporaneous structure of this video, just throwing things in that you think are cool or worth mentioning when you feel like it 😅 very charming, like LBA.
Ive heard the name before but never actually seen it in action. There is a definite charm to the visuals here and I think I will give it a go here soon. Nice video!
i have never completed lba 2, but it's waiting for me once i finish lba, again. what I did play of lba 2 in the 90s, is it was an amazing game and an upgrade from lba.
I struggled to remember the name of this game a few months ago until my father managed to remind me what it was called - I had played it as a child, but literally all I could remember was the child that threw rocks at you in Twinsun until you kicked him off the roof. If I hadn't remembered that, it would have been lost to time for me - naturally, I've listened to the music over and over again ever since because it's just so damn good
this game was magic as a kid, its still is great fun too, some guys are working on a nice remaster that runs through java, even in browser! Even has vr support coming soon :P
I finished the first game as a child, so many memories. I bought the 2nd on GoG but I’ve never started it. Maybe I’ll get around to finishing Twinsen’s story one of these days.
12:23 man the music fit perfectly, I dont honestly think this game did anything wrong. One of the best games ever. Cant believe gamespot gave it a score less than 8.5 🤦
You keep mentioning that you stop your jump by changing stance. Im pretty sure you can also hit the down (back) key. You still need to change stance to interfere with the hit animation when you take damage though.
Still one of my favourite games of all time. By the way, the reason your music didn't work as a kid was because the games music was actually on the CD as CD Audio tracks you could play in any CD player. I'm guessing your pirated version didn't have those.
That was a nice trip down memory lane, reminded me of other 3D games in that era. Do you remember oblong confusion of Ecstatica? Or the ghost cowboy insanity of Alone in the Dark 3?
I'd say so, if only to see how big the leap is between the two. It's got a few issues all on its own, though, like how you take damage from sprinting into walls.
I had ZERO clue that this game existed before this video, and my life is now 100% better knowing it does exist.
Ya know for a guy who animated Woolie and Pat, you seem really polite and level headed

I can't believe this was your first time doing a video like this. You are a natural.
Great video. This game was an important part of my childhood, the music is timeless.
On another note, I need to give this game a go in english, as I played it in french back then. The english dialogues look a lot less serious like wth was Twinsen making a joke at Funfroc) and the voice acting more involved.

They are very underrated!

Animations, games and now game dissection videos? Amazing work!
I also played it thru a pirated copy. My sister and I had tons of fun playing Got it on steam and we both almost wept hearing the music again after all these years.
This game and brood war taught met the importance of hotkeys. I always switched modes with F5 through F8. Z for the talk/interact action.
My absolute favourite game of my childhood! I played it in 1999 on a Pentium 2 and also had a pirated copy without music! Thank you for this amazing video and trip down nostalgia lane
I’m a massive fan of hearing people gush about their one weird niche influential game they played as a kid. Awesome video.
Fuck yeah Little Big Adventure! This game needs more love!
Really good video! Would love see more video like this sprinkled in between animations.
best childhood game along with dungeon keeper 2
Played LBA2 as a kid, loved it, bizarre to see you do a piece on this, never hear anyone about it.
Old silly adventure games like this make me wish I had a computer to play them back in the 90s
I feel like mostly us Europeans remember this game. It was awesome, I'm almost sure I still have the original CD somewhere in my collection... despite never having played the first game, or even understanding English that well which lead me to not really understand the plot/tasks to do.
The best game of my infancy and ever
Tank controls platformer with style switching?
Yeah you got my attention I'll give this little gem a gander.
This game and the first are also some of my favorite games from my childhood. I had the first one and beat it and then remember seeing Twinsen's Odyssey in a COMPUSA and had to get the sequel. I was not disappointed. I also purchased them on STEAM to replay them, can't wait!
This is probably the PC game I played the most when I was younger. Amazing game!!!
This game is an absolute classic. I'm danish, but I actually played through the whole thing in french once, to prepare for my french exam :)
Really liked this video, thanks dude.
God I love this game. I basically grew up with this game and MDK (like you I didn't play the first game til years later) and god they're still so much fun.

These games captured my imagination as a child. They were fantastic adventures.
It looks like something I would’ve liked as a kid.
I just checked GOG and these are both there! Leaving interaction on the video and gonna enjoy them for myself! Thanks for the recommendation!
I love deep dives into old games I've never heard of.
10:50 Marty was flexing decades before DOOM
Somehow you having played this game as a child explains your animations...
8:30 Thought you could slip a Skeleton Warriors reference past us, Remerai?
I THINK NOT!
Woah, this was great. I would love to see more content like this. Hard to believe this game is on steam, good on em, its downloading right now
I can see so much of this game in your animations.
Top 1 or my list of best games I've played, followed by Zelda OoT
I struggled to remember the name of this game a few months ago until my father managed to remind me what it was called - I had played it as a child, but literally all I could remember was the child that threw rocks at you in Twinsun until you kicked him off the roof.

They are making a new one!!!!
Loved the first game back in the day, had no idea there was a sequel until now!
this game was magic as a kid, its still is great fun too, some guys are working on a nice remaster that runs through java, even in browser! Even has vr support coming soon :P
My favorite game ever.
Pretty sure you can also cancel jumps by just pressing the down arrow key. I love this game
Best french game ever!
I didn't speak english as a child and when I played this I thought twinsen as a girl because of how he sounds when he gets hit
I didn’t know about the switching mode thing to stop a jump! I completed it as a child but it was sooo hard. This would have made it easier
Holy crap man , I been trying to remember this games name for ages 😅
I finished the first game as a child, so many memories. I bought the 2nd on GoG but I’ve never started it. Maybe I’ll get around to finishing Twinsen’s story one of these days.
You should play it! It's even better than the first.
Imagine MCSB without saves.
12:23 man the music fit perfectly, I dont honestly think this game did anything wrong. One of the best games ever. Cant believe gamespot gave it a score less than 8.5 🤦
Still waiting for Panoots to finish his playthrough someday
Yeah, I always chose tank controls for Silent Hill
You keep mentioning that you stop your jump by changing stance. Im pretty sure you can also hit the down (back) key.
You still need to change stance to interfere with the hit animation when you take damage though.
Sadly only the first game was ported on mobile by Dotemu. You're welcome to vouch for a port of LBA2.
I believe you will be interested in this :)

I'd love for a mobile port of LBA 2 as well!
Somebody'll be animating your podcasts soon enough 😋

Another youtuber i watch covered this a bit. I forget who it was now but they talked about this a bit.
oh god his voice is hot!
Remerai, can we hear your rendition of the Ferryman song?
Reminds me of Ross Game Dungeon
fun view at a strange little game
When the point n click adventure has both DMC style switching AND dark souls 1 toggle escape WTF
Would you say the first one is worth playing?
I'd say so, if only to see how big the leap is between the two. It's got a few issues all on its own, though, like how you take damage from sprinting into walls.
Definitely yes. Be prepared for a challenge, though.
i know about it but arent a kid anymore so idk
is remerai, .TakaM?
please respond
