TRANSFER AT HONG KONG Airport - North Satellite Concourse to Terminal 1 - Chek Lap Kok Airport

  • We are at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), the main airport of Hong Kong located on the island of Chek Lap Kok. This new airport is also called Chek Lap Kok Airport, to distinguish it from the old Hong Kong Airport called Kai Tak Airport. We have just arrived on a Bangkok Airways flight from Koh Samui (USM), Thailand and are in transit on our way to our Finnair flight to Helsinki (HEL), Finland. We have landed at Hong Kong Airports North Satellite Concourse and the footage shows our short bus drive and walk from North Satellite Concourse (International arrivals and departures) to Terminal 1 (international departures).
    The footage shows our disembarkation from our Bangkok Airways flight and then follows our transit walk from Hong Kong Airports (HKG) North Satellite Concourse to Terminal 1. The transit walk from North Satellite Concourse is very short and passengers with a connection flight are quickly ushered onto a terminal shuttle bus which quickly transports you to Terminal 1. Once you arrive at Terminal 1 you once again have to pass security control (these areas are not included in the footage as filming is not allowed). Transit passengers passing the security check should be aware that any liquids such as water, soft drinks etc. (even purchased at the previous airport after security control) over the allowed limit have to be handed over to security (the rules are the same as if this is the first time you are passing through airport security for a flight). Once inside Terminal 1 at Hong Kong International Airport you arrive in a huge long terminal hall full of tax free shops and restaurants in the one side and then the departure gates with long transport escalators on the other side (there are a few tax free shops at the gate departure hall, but most of the tax free shops and restaurants are positioned at the start of the terminal). The walk to the gates is easy and their locations are logical so it is difficult to get lost when walking to your flights departure gate. As mentioned the walk to the departure gates at Hong Kong Airports Terminal 1 is not far, but that being said people with walking disabilities should organise assistance for themselves. One could see that there where plenty of passenger assistance vehicles driving around the terminal to the various gates. Passengers who want to have a meal or just a snack before their flight will find that there is a huge selection of local and international restaurant chains on the first floor looking out over the departure gates (called the Food Court). Hong Kong Airport has actually in 2014 won the Skytrax Award for "Worlds Best Airport Dining". This footage includes a walk through the airports restaurant area on the first floor of Terminal 1. Our Finnair flight, an Airbus A340, was located at Gate 32 at the airport. The Flight departed on time and we where boarded according to our seat groups (very convenient making boarding of the aircraft very efficient). The video footage shows the walk from Gate 32 down the Jet bridge (also called gangway, jetway, airbridge, aerobridge, passenger walkway or portal) and into the passenger cabin of our Finnair A340 aircraft.
    Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) or Chek Lap Kok Airport (赤鱲角機場) was in 2014 voted by Skytrax as the fourth best airport in the world. Wiki writes about Skytrax, "Skytrax is a United Kingdom-based consultancy, which runs an airline and airport review and ranking site. It conducts research for commercial airlines...". Other 2014 Skytrax Awards for Hong Kong Airport include: Third place in "World´s Best Airport Shopping" category, Seventh place for "World´s Best Airport Immigration" category, fifth place for "World´s Best Transit Airport" category, fifth place for "World´s Cleanest Airports" category, Fifth place for "World´s Best Airport for Leisure Amenities" category, and a first place for "World´s Best Airport for Baggage Delivery"! By region "Best Airports in Asia.
    Wiki writes about Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) or Chek Lap Kok Airport (赤鱲角機場), "Hong Kong International Airport is the main airport in Hong Kong. It is located on the island of Chek Lap Kok, which largely..."

      Thanks AviationNLNZ glad you liked it :-) When I go on holiday I always try to do transit flights, that way I get to see as many airports as possible (I take it as part of the holiday). When I get home and see peoples vids of these airports it always brings back pleasent memories and I feel like I could just go there on the next plane... I understand you!! Wish I could try Cathay Pacific, I´ve only heard good things about that airline!!

    • @AviationNZ
      @AviationNZ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, yeah. Most people try to avoid transits, and just as you, I don't! The more the better. :) Cathay was my first ever experience with long haul flights and I can tell you, it was one of the best until this day! I've flown with Air New Zealand, KLM, Singapore, Emirates, British Airways and Cathay. Cathay and Singapore are by far the best if it comes to service and flight attendants (hehe :p).

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joshua, you are welcome and thank you for watching! If you bags cannot be interlined, I (Maxi) would imagine that you would have to go to the baggage claim and out to re-check in your baggage for your next flight. If that was the case then you would probably have to pass through immigration, yes (not exactly sure though).

And lets say my layover time in hk to U.S is 7-14 hrs, do I have to wait for the airlines to accept check-in? And once I have the boarding pass, do I need to pass through immigration?

      Hi Jamie, we found it easy to find our way as there where lots of signs and personal to help! Try looking at the airport map to see where you arrive and depart from. If you are in doubt about time contact your travel agent or Hong Kong, they should be able to advice you. Hi Traveller, It's our first time to travel with a transit flight from Manila to Hong kong and transit to Beijing China via Cathy Pacific. I need to know about our luggages , do we need to get it at the carousel and check in again at hongkong airport or it's automatic transfer to the plane going to Beijing ?

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +Berkly Ng, when you arrive at the check-in at Manila, ask them to check your luggage all the way through to your final destination Beijing. If the flights are purchased and paid in the same reservation, this should not be a problem. The check-in ground crew will be able to tell you whether they can check your luggage through to Beijing or not. Hope this information helps, have a good journey! :-D

    • @trent8002003
      @trent8002003 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are T1 and T2. T1 has both check in/landside (terminal) and boarding/airside (concourse) facilities. T2 only has check in/landside facilities (terminal). All boarding gates are either at T1 (concourse portion) or the North Satellite Concourse. The NSC is an extension of T1 specially built for smaller planes like 737s and A320s. What your clips shows is that you deplaned from your Bangkok Air flight at the NSC and then took the shuttle bus to the T1 main concourse and boarded the Finnair flight there. You have not eneterd the T2 at all.
