    Hi from Germany! Biologist here .. that sedum roof is beautiful. Sedum is a succulent and can hold tons of water which improves the climate inside, like a natural AC. Cools down in summer and insulates in winter, produces O2 and cleans the air … and looks nice!
    It’s not moss (although there’s moss in between) but a real plant that blooms in different colors, depending on the species. You can see that some of the fresh stuff at the edges is green, so I believe it later turns red because of Stress, some plants do this.
    Sedum is used on roofs because it tolerates everything, like hot and dry weather or bittercold winters.
    House, patio and roof are absolutely amazing!

      Thanks for your response. I had planned to mention that it was probably a type of sedum and can tolerate occasional foot traffic but is not a lawn substitute. I truly would like to see that roof in bloom, probably a bright yellow. Let me just add that there are hundreds of species in the genus Sedum and some are not suitable for roofing.

      It's quite easy to put a small sedum roof on a bike shed, garden shed or flat roof, it's very resilient stuff. You just need to check that the roof is strong enough to take a low, flat frame of soil, taking into account how much it will weigh when wet, and also make sure you have a plan for drainage into a nearby gutter.

    Thats cool! Ecologist in the uk here! This is what we call a green roof and you can make them using different substrates and management. You have the sedum roofs like above can you can also have roofs seeded with wildflowers which uses different management. Green and brown (brown is a more natural roof left to get seeded naturally by pollinators) roofs are a way of increasing biodiversity net gain (just means that you improve the natural environment after a development is completed!) when a lot of buildings are to be built on a new development which is not currently required for new delopments (depends on the council). However, 10% biodiversity net gain will be mandatory from November 2023 (as part of the Environment Act 2021) for most planning permissions (with some exceptions) so we will probably be seeing these roofs more often!!! So you did a good job working on these cause they will become more frequent I believe!

    Hello Sid, I was watching you put your very tall ladder down that narrow walkway to pull the debris out of the customer's rain gutter do you remember that job? In the past when I have a ladder and need to go up for whatever reason it gives me personal comfort when I take a strong bungee cord or something similar and attach one side of the ladder or both to the building. In the case of that job you could easily attach a rubber bungee cord, a strong one One of those black type that are flat and made of rubber, wrap it around the left side of the ladder if you watch your video and attach it right to the railing on the man's house. What does that do it gives you a confidence that the ladder will not slide right or pretty much move when you're walking up and down or leaning and reaching it will assist in keeping the ladder where you put it. It's also easily removed doesn't harm the house it's just a added security for you to keep the ladder from sliding away. Use it on all your jobs no harm no foul it's a benefit for you you got to protect that back you have a lot of diapers to do mister! Peace ✌️

    • @PartridgeExteriorCleaning
      @PartridgeExteriorCleaning  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      it's an extremely wet climate so properties would flood often if we just had concrete everywhere, that's why permeable paving is quite popular here, acts as a slow soakaway:)

    • @nancynorcross409
      @nancynorcross409 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Having lived in Scotland for 2 years, there are TONS of rock. They have been paving with rock for years, and it's an amazing trade. Also, it rains so much that the block paving helps draining, and reduces the mud. My opinions only. The biggest one is that it is so very much more beautiful than all the boring, ugly concrete that we in the US are obsessed with.

    • @Zyxlian
      @Zyxlian ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nancynorcross409 Not sure how it is there, but in the US, pavers like this are *significantly* more expensive than tar or concrete (probably cause, like you mentioned, tar/concrete is much more common here). I am sure that most people in the US would love to have their driveway done with pavers like this, but the cost is prohibitive for the vast majority of people - especially when you consider that driveways in the US are also much larger as well.

    • @juliebrooke6099

    Took me clear until the end of the video in a drone shot to notice the pixelated patio~😅 Fascinating design; presumably, the engineers and architects accounted for the weight of the moss gardens, and the water they'll hold.
