Pretty small lake so there no snowmobile around and I mark it with lots of sticks after to notify other. Thanks! Tight lines :)

Not a fan of these big holes. I know you cover them but just a matter of time when this is not going to end well for someone. Hopefully this does not become a “thing”…

ICE FISHING SAFETY PSA! I hope everyone has been enjoying the hard water fishing season so far. It has been a lot of fun even though I consider myself not very good at it yet. 😂 While we encourage you to get a freshwater fishing licence and give these opportunities a go, there is some important safety concerns which everyone needs to be aware of.
This past week we have been hearing reports of anglers stepping into unmarked sight fishing holes and injuring themselves. A typical ice fishing hole, drilled by an auger, ranges anywhere from 4" to 10" in diameter. A sight fishing hole is usually a much bigger hole cut out so anglers can have a better field of view. It's an exciting way to fish for sure because you can watch every single fish coming in to grab your offering, but you have to be mindful of what to do afterward. Sight fishing holes need to be marked properly, by covering up with branches. Sticking branches into the water so they point straight up is also needed. This prevents anyone from accidentally stepping into the holes.
For adults, accidents like this may ruin the entire fishing day, or cause serious injuries. For children, this could easily become a life and death situation. If the hole is unmarked, and a fresh dump of snow occurred shortly afterward like what we saw last week, it may not freeze properly due to insulation. With a new layer of snow on top, it would be impossible to spot an unmarked hole.
For parents, my suggestion is to scout out the area where you intend to fish before starting the day just to be sure that the ice is 100% safe. Big holes can also occur naturally, due to underwater springs, or aerators. An extra few minutes of checking may save the day, or someone's life.
Be sure to share this with your fellow ice fishers.

I always cover my hole well if you have not seen my previous videos. I am mindful of where I cut it. It’s always far away from the people or other side of the lake. I understand the danger of it when it’s not properly marked. I try to spread safety when doing this. Nothing wrong doing it if you mark it “properly” and use common sense

I’m thinking to go ice fishing next week. Wondering what lake is better now?
