  • This program, hosted by news bureau manager Bobbi de Cordova Hanks, was a monthly feature produced by the College’s Downtown Campus Production team and aired on Cable Channel 35 in Jacksonville.
This episode from May 1989 opens already in progress with a segment featuring Open Campus project manager Julie Woodruff on a series of seminars geared toward improving management skills. The second segment is an on-location spot with Santa Mann, GOLD manager, at the Singleton Senior Center at 150 1st Street. Mann offers a history of how the senior adult program evolved at the College, from 1971 when it was known as OPUS (Older Person Using Skills) to its current iteration as GOLD (Golden Opportunities for Lifelong Development), and the types of classes available to seniors. Next, the show cuts to the President’s Corner, which gives President Charles Spence an opportunity to address his issues with the proposed cuts to the state budget. In the fourth segment, Open Campus Provost Carol Minor expands on how the proposed cuts would impact College programs and North Campus Provost Ezekiel Bryant discusses Adult Basic Education, High School, and GED programs at FCCJ. Following that, Cordova Hanks goes on location to North Campus to interview baseball coach Howard Rooey in advance of the team going to the junior college state regional tournament, the seventh consecutive time the college’s team has done so. Rooey presents the host with a hat, making her an honorary Star before introducing her to the team.
The episode concludes with a series of slides advertising various programs, courses, and events available at the College, focusing on telecourses. One commercial for the Artist Series is included with this recording and appears at 18:04.
