Thanks for that, trip down memory lane for me. Always stay at the Crown, early morning coffee at Tipsy Tap, and lunch/supper at Det5. Wouldn't mind a coupla weeks there now.
I've spent a decent amount of time on Soi 8 and Velvet, Lyf, and Sound Pop Coffee are definitely places I recommend. Velvet has really nice cocktails with a crazy vibe. Lyf offers decent weekly rates but also is a good place to eat pizza and drink beers on the outside patio area. Sound Pop Coffee has a really nice setup and they have reasonably priced light roasts if you're a coffee enthusiast.
Great to see a walkthrough of Soi 8, it has been my go to street in Bangkok for many years. Love the vibe there, great restaurants and plenty of accommodations! Will be staying there again in a month or so.
Even after all these years Soi 8 has managed to keep some of his old charm. I recall back in the day you could sit at Viva (known as viva monsoon back then ) and feed the elephants from your table as they strolled around during the evening. 😂
Thanks for the videos EE, I lived in BKK for 5 years about 10 years ago and in those days you could easily drive across the bridge at the end of Soi 10 and into the Thai Tobacco Monopoly - I even taught my eldest daughter to drive using the Tobacco Monopoly roads as it was always super quiet and perfect for learning to drive! cheers
Kiwi Pub used to be where the Lyf hotel is now until I think 2018 and then moved to where Velvet is....such a shame it closed over CV19...great pub for sports especially Rugby Union, great memories . Great vlog, thanks for all the walkabouts and sights. Lost Aussie pub looks a good addition.
Got married in Bkk 20 yrs ago, still married. We had a small party with some friends in soi 8, and spent the wedding night in the Crown Hotel ! Ceiling mirror and red lights😂
Plan to stay at La Petit Solil in January. Have stayed at same name hotel on Soi 11 and will be staying there in March. First time staying in the Soi8/11 area was at the Adelphi Suites - nice but pricey compared to many other hotels in the area, good restaurant.
Interesting video, I think you are right that the building with the tuk tuk in front of it at the end of soi 8 used to be the Royal Asia Paradis and Lodge hotel, I have stayed there a few times in the late 90's and early 2000's.
I think that building on the side soi off of 8 before the church gate is an ice house, and the supplies are for maintaining customers' machinery... interesting mix of industrial use in a residential neighborhood, popped up about 5 years ago on a previously empty lot. $$$$?
good deal hidden jems. local means thai and full time foreigner is x- pat. those apartments i would /will have a rappel set up snap in and go. fires anywhere crazy but thai FD in traffic kiss it byebye. DET(old us military ref) is pronounced that way not d.e.t.
I believe the Lyf hotel should be pronounced "life". Speaking of, The Kiwi was located exactly where Lyf is right now. You can check on Google Maps street view and click back pre 2018 to see when it was still there. The earliest street view is from 2011 when it was called "Soi 8 Pub & Restaurant". Happy Hour price for a Singha was apparently 65 B. :)
Thanks!
I'm glad you liked the video. Thank you very much. That's very generous

I hear ya man. Det 5 is a nice meal.

Thanks for the tips. I really enjoy Soi 8

That's old school. Thanks for watching

It is a great area. Plus, it's close to the park.

Strolling elephants on Sukhumvit? That's old school.

Thanks for the info. It will be nice to have a new bridge soon.
To me, Vesuvio is well worth a try. When in Bangkok, I'll make the trip there every time.
I need to put Vesuvio on the list

I thought it was where Lyf is today. I had some great times there. Thanks for watching.
I love the greenery on your videos.
Glad you like them. For an urban jungle, BKK does a nice job with trees and parks

Wow, 20 years. That's a good run. Soi 8 was lucky for you.
Was there Friday night love soi 8, always stay stable lodge .
I've had a few meals at the Stable Lodge. Great place to eat. I need to check out the rooms
Not the biggest and a bit dated,,spotless though,, im in korat now, some great hotels here, and cheap..
Great Soi!
It's a nice part of town. Mellow at the end and wild near Sukhumvit

That looks like a nice place. It always reminds me of a French Hotel. Have a great stay
Great thx. Easy walk from Soi 7-1 where I usually stay....also have you done a vid of the soi Sukhumvit 10 across from the Ruamchitt hotel? thx
Yes, I've did a video on every soi. Check out the Sukhumvit Playlist

Good info. Soi 8 is always a fun time.
Cool vlog
Thank you Mario

Ya, I think I saw an ice service sticker on the truck
I love spas
They sure are a great value
Oh you missed the side road at 4mins 40. My grandfather use to own the house at the end of that side street, they sold the house when he passed away.
Oh shoot, sorry about that. I've did a few Soi 8 videos if you check my Sukhumvit Playlist. They should all be in order. Maybe I caught it there.
I live up on the next soi up Soi 12, I miss using that walkway going to the park. It will be a nightmare if they let cars drive through there .
Ya, the new bridge looks pretty wide. Let's see what happens.

Ya, my Air Force buddies told me it was detachment 5. Or Det 5. The unit that went to Vietnam. I believe the owner was in that outfit
