I wanted to say, and he eventually laid it out clearly - their only competitor is Emirates.
Etihad is a very poor replica of what it once was - it has lost all its lustre, its chicness and is now merely a mid-level airline.
Its new airport is a white elephant and too big, it has no passengers incoming only transit, and there, they are facing the huge competition of Emirates, Qatar and also Turkish Airlines so it is not surprising Al Meer did not mention them. He did say to Riyadh Air 'welcome' and wanted to add (to the battleground, but he was too polite) as they will never be in any way a competitor of Emirates or Qatar, and it's worth noting that the CEO of Riyadh is the ex-CEO of Etihad, so the implications are quite clear.
Emirates is the behemoth of the ME airlines flying more than 100 A380s, and the remainder of the fleet B777s, however they have no flexibility - it's a double aisle widebody or a double aisle widebody - anyway good for the passenger. Qatar has a mixed fleet of A380s, B777s, A350s A330s, B787s, A321s, A320s and B737 Maxs, so they are far more flexible to match their aircraft to the route demand.

I ❤️ Qatar 🇶🇦 Airways, and it's my preferred airline !! However, since Qatar 🇶🇦 Airways changed ground service agents at Heathrow and Gatwick, the quality of customer service has gone down significantly.
At both LHR and LGW, the ground handling staff are extremely unprofessional, rude, and without professional ethics.
And, their uniform standards are far below the low-cost carriers, especially at LHR.
The airline 🇶🇦 needs to look into these issues.

Riyadh is more to help saudi 2030 vision not the compete qatar/Emirates
    Even the fleet is small

You're wrong. It's made to compete thats why Saudia will be moving its operations base to Jeddah while Riyadh air establish theirs in Riyadh. As for the fleet it will get bigger with time especially once they move to the new King Salman Airport which will be one of the biggest airports in the region and a main connection hub and Aslo the main operating base for Riyadh air. Also Saudi has a much bigger population than Qatar and UAE combined so they have no problems driving them away from competition if the prices and services done right.
