OhOh! Flash back--my Mom and I made view 3. We even found a slightly shimmery darkish blue fabric. I wore it to my boyfriend's high school graduation. We have now been married 50 years :)
I found a crafty thrift store in Le Mars, Iowa, that had at least a hundred patterns for $0.75/ea. You better believe I snapped up a grocery bag full - including at least a dozen that were size 38+. 😍😍😍 (Kitty Cat Crafting for those looking for an awesome road trip stop!)
Saucy! I sew and live in chaos! The mens long sleeping shirt was in my grandmother’s sewing table. In the later years she only sewed that pattern as my grandfather preferred them. He never was one for change and my grandma indulged him.
Back in the day I made that dress with the wacky hood - Simplicity 9500. It was a really attractive dress, but I never had the courage to pull up the hood. To me, at 19, I thought that dress was so clever.
I was at a thrift store a few weeks ago and came across an entire box of vintage patterns. I was so tempted to buy them even though I know I couldn’t fit a single one.
If I ever see them I will buy them. I don’t know if for resale, or just to save. But I will buy them. For about four years I had been searching for a nightgown from the 80s, I have made it three times, and it turns out so pretty. But on Etsy it was $36, and the last time I looked $56. Now I respect entrepreneurs, capitalism and all, but I paid a dollar for it, and it is not that complex. Finally God smiled on me and I found it! It had fallen under the drawer of an organization unit that was overall a great design, ruined by the cheap cardboard drawer bottoms. I hope, in time, to use the router and replace the bottoms. Anyway I am stoked to sew up nightgowns for myself, my daughter, and my sister since I found it!
Pocket in night clothing is for reading glasses that you will then forget about and roll over onto them. Tip: use the cheap drug store glasses. :) Side note is that I just spent yesterday trying to find my dad some pajamas which are basically the 1970s version. Now I will likely end up sewing them. Pocket will be included.
I made my first husband a nightshirt like the collared one, with just the collar band, when we lived in an unheated house (winter was 3 weeks long!) and he loved it. The pocket is for a handkerchief!
What a hoot. I’ve never in my adult life been tiny enough to wear these patterns, but I just so enjoyed watching and giggling at your comments. Thanks for the smiles and giggles!
I haven't made the men's night shirt, but I bought one like that from Amazon for Halloween one year when we did willy Wonka and my husband was grandpa Joe. He said it was the most comfortable thing he'd ever worn and loved the collar and pocket. He said it made him feel fancy and comfortable at the same time, which I can relate to when I make a good knit dress😂. It got lost somewhere along the way and I totally forgot about it until just now, I might have to grab that pattern and make him a new one
SAUCY!!!! Vogue 9428 View C!!!! What got me was the "Hancock Fabrics" stamped on one of the patterns. I used to work for one location, like, a YEAR before they declared bankruptcy and went out of business. Also, that long men's nightshirt had my brain going "That would be a good base to convert into a shirtwaist dress".
I made a fur jacket in 1973 or 1974 but I can't remember if it was the same pattern that you have. I made it in a faux mink and added patch pockets on the front. I was in high school at the time. I also used large flat buttons in matte black with a satin coat lining. It was so retro at the time. I wish that I would have kept it! It was a dark mink with vertical lines. So cool! We already loved shoulder pads!
Nightshirts--I swear by them for two reasons: not wanting to be caught in some emergency having to exit my place during the night such as if there was a fire or explosion, and because i sweat profusely and used to sleep in the nude. The sheets stay fresher over the week when all i have to do is change the nightshirt. By chance a friend sized down tremendously so had a slew of very large shirts that were as long as nightshirts. Knowing that i crafted he gifted them to me and I tried one as a nightshirt and it worked. One day i hear a neighbor in my complex having a problem with her child's ill fitting dress that could use some elastic. Normally these days people do not have a ready stock of elastic so in my adapted nightshirt I ventured out onto the walkway they being on the ground floor and me on the second and offered a length of elastic instead of having to go to the fabric shop. All went well until a few days later comes a knock at the door by the police investigating why I was not wearing underwear as reported by karen neighbors that had an issue with street parking taking up two spaces instead of one that i inadvertently got involved. Knowing that in certain instances when there is a report if there is absolute evidence the cops show up to arrest you no question you. For the next hour i was discussing the fundamental reasons why i dressed as I did and that in my situation of having sewn up the front of the shirt I was not exposed. The police left to question other tenants if i was a pedophile! To cut the story shorter, karens continued on their campaign to hound me until one day another neighbor saw their performance and gave them a talking down as to how ridiculous they appeared and that the original complaint was solely in retaliation for the street parking issue. Whenever there was a chance we might encounter each other they began to cross the street in shame. I still swear by nightshirts even if they are converted oversized shirts. Because of their outburst the whole neighborhood are aware of who is taking up two spaces when one will do. I know off story but what you can encounter when dealing with clothing pattens. And yes, I have my share of nightshirt patterns including Afghans!
For the record, I was, and still am, a big fan of the original Magnum, P.I. series. The new one? Hot garbage. But the original is quality TV in all its 80's gaudiness GLORY! :)
Hello my Saucy baboo? Hell yeah, you buy a second hand suitcase to bring those lovelies back. And, again, thank you for all of the work you put into not only selling vintage patterns so they get a second life, but you make videos about it all. Well done. Glad you had a good trip. Good to see the progress with your hand and wrist. Huzzah. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
How do you tell factory folded from meticulous refolded that was traced, not cut out? I’ve had some of Grandmas that resellers claim are factory folded - I know they aren’t because I have the traced version.
These patterns go back to the days when women really dressed and paid attention to their appearance!!! I can't think of any of the ladies in my mom's circle who would ever dream of going on the road in their pajamas!!! (lol).
Hi I used to have that Mary Martin Pattern 9227 found it in the 90s. I actually made it in Aqua blue with White Polka Dots. Lovely pattern easy to sew. I also just purchased that Advance coat pattern. 4828 I have the original Advance Catalog Book from 1951! Love your Channel..😅
Saucy! This was awesome to watch. I love seeing the variety of patterns through the decades and also just what you can find. It’s like a treasure hunt.
I loved this video because I LOVE vintage patterns!! Oh how I wish I had my Mother's patterns. I try to find the patterns she made my clothes from when I was a child and teen in the 1960s/70s. I had the first bellbottoms in my elementary school, and a 'Carnaby Street' dress with white collar and cuffs and a men's type tie! Groovy!
There are few people I would hang around for but you, my saucy friend, are just so darn entertaining! And a side note - you don't want to sew 1970's patterns? Neither did I! And I was living through the. 70's! Truly, some of the worst patterns and the worst colors ever! At least the 80s sparkled...I love a good sparkle! Thanks, Ms. Canada- you're the Bomb!
Saucy B6527 made up nicely in a silky oriental print with crepe bands and midriff picking up the azure in the mostly red main fabric. Why does it startle and almost weird me out when I see one of my own patterns here? I want to go check my pattern boxes to make sure it's there.
Saucy! What is going on in the men’s nightshirt envelope art? The one guy is looking at a….bill?…letter? And the other guy is….commiserating? Pointing out interesting phrases with his pipe? Under what circumstances are they doing any of this in their nightshirts?
I remember those 1940’s and fifties styles. My Mother wore many of those shirt dress (fitted top, faired gathered skirt.), oh ya, she always had us make two simple cap-sleeve blouses, and two gathered skirts, before school started in the fall. I may still have those old 1940’s pinafores we three girls wore when we we very small. And the photos of us wearing them… I also recall making a sheath dress in Home Ec. with that little bow at the front waist, aqua blue, if i recall. And those sixties “dramatic sleeves” are very much like the ones for a Renaissance costume i’m working on. Fashion Deja vu.
Well, one thing about vintage patterns most are for slender women. I saw an HBO documentary about Barbie called "Tiny Little Shoulders" There were women protesting Barbie being unrealistically shaped, which set unrealistic ideals about how a beautiful American woman should be shaped. I kept thinking that women were shaped similar to Barbie when she first hit toy store shelves in 1959. Women used undergarments that cinched the waste and bullet bras that made the boobs look larger. We are meatier nowadays. Notice I say We, ( I am 5ft tall) I was a size 5 until I reached menopause then went up to an 8 until I got breast cancer and had to take those cancer meds. Now all my clothes are too tight but refuse to get rid of my clothes because I am hoping to feel better and start swimming again.
That's an interesting piont-- that barbie's breastd look like that bc of bullet bras. It makes a lot of sense. I wonder if it would have been even more scandalous if we gave children dolls with bras and panties?
Saucy, patterns. I so enjoyed watching all those once lost patterns start their journey to new homes. You did make me laugh just as l was drinking, I'm sure you get the picture, you said "the skirt came with a straight jacket " that sounds as if it was meant for a mad house. A bit like my home 😂
I’m only about 13 minutes in but wow!!!!! I would love to make that faux fur jacket but would also love tips on working with that material. Years ago my mom was sewing a Where the Wild Things Are costume for my niece and wound up sewing right through her finger. Had to go to the ER with the entire needle from the machine 🙀🤯 (my mom is very experienced and talented at sewing too so this was shocking)
Trick #1 to sewing faux fur is don't cut it out with scissors! You chop up the pile. Trace pattern pieces on the back, then cut with a scalpel or other blade while lifting it off the surface. You only want to cut the ground fabric. #2: Go down the outside of each sewn seam with a comb, raking the pile out of the seam. Use a pin to rake out the final bits. It reduces bulk inside and the pile hides the seam. #3: Turn to the inside and cut all the pile off the seam allowances, to reduce bulk. Hope that helps!
Saucy sister! Love the vintage patterns. I bought a 1970's dress pattern from you and ended up making it into a night gown. There will be more of those because it is so comfy!
Saucy! I love these videos even though I don't sew anymore in my old age. Once in a while I recognize a pattern from the 70's or 80's and that's fun for me. But I really love the older patterns from the 40's the most. :)
Saucy! Stephanie that bridal dress Advance 3150 was my wedding dress in 1967.I found the pattern at a thrift type store. Had to reduce the size but I ;oved this dress. made it out of polished cotton. Thanks for sharing. Married 57 yrs in July! They callme Saint Sue.
Regarding the men's nightshirt: i have a pair of jammies with a collar, breast pocket, and pants pockets. Said jammies are soft, warm flannel and are easy sleeping in Chicago winters.
Saucy! And lots of stunner patterns! Also, I am not clued in on Star Wars (I think) and the Mandalorian, but it looks a little like a little creature mooning me! If so, hilarious - love watching your vids - thanks!
I've never made the pattern for the nightshirt. But, look: I use the pockets in my nightgowns to hold my phone as I stumble sleepily from the bedroom to the kitchen to feed the kittens. Because kittens. I need all the pockets in my sleepwear, and I refuse to wear any without them.
I love that pleated skirt! Well, in general I love pleated skirts, but I love how they made it a bit flat across the center front, and top stitching them down a ways. Obviously it is more suited to certain figure types, but so lovely.
I love those giant pattern envelopes, I remember them well. They always effed up the pattern file boxes, lol. Reminds me of the oversized counter books for patterns. They were so cool.
Saucy as anything, really. As soon as you showed some of the 1970s patterns I felt like I was at home, I do have one for a tunic somewhere in the sewing chaos (I think I even know where it is bottom trunk), my mom made it for my dad and intended to make another for herself and bought the fabric and everything, and now that I have a machine that might concievably be able to sew it (it's stretchy like swimsuit fabric), I may actually make the silly thing, only about 50 years late. I have my suspicions that the pattern is older than I am (I'm mid-70's vintage myself).
Saucy! Thank you for uploading a very long video while I'm in hospital recovering from surgery. Everything went very well, I'm mobile, in hardly any discomfort, but I'm not getting released until they're sure nothing went horribly wrong, and my body has decided to play coy with some test results, so I'm very grateful for any and all Content ™ to consume.
Saucy! >wink-wink< I'm currently trying to make a sloper from thrift store sheets. I haven't touched my sewing machine in years....thank you for the inspo!
Lol, is it an insult to say that these videos are saucy? Because I think sauce is good so not an insult IMHO. :) Though omg, I hope I can get that wedding dress pattern (the kiddo is getting married and she wants Grace Kelly-esque). Also that dramatic coat is amazing!
Those tap pants were indeed SAUCY! I knew that they were not the repo basis as I have made the repo pattern myself, but it is always interesting to see different ones. They don't normally vary much, but the low-back variation was amazing! I went ahead and just sent you an email with my pattern requests (if they are still available), along with some info on some 1950s patterns I want to get rid of.
6430 coat great shoulder extended into the sleevecap. I made it in a faux sealskin fur in red. I wore it with black satin hip huggers and a bodysuit and or a red stretch velvet jumpsuit with black satin trim. Wow! discothèque here I come. Thx for the memory
Saucy gloves! Wait...can gloves be saucy? ... Yes, yes they can! I love watching these videos, Stephanie, they always put me in a good mood.😃 Damn. The glove pattern is already sold!
Saucy Red Head. Lol I love it when you talk patterns. They are some very spectacular find. I do enjoy the 50,60,and 70 the most but I believe it's because these areas are what I grew up with. 80's was when my girls were growing up in like you I never cared for all those styles.
I have the Simplicity 9178 pattern, bought it back in the 70s. Hand sewed the entire thing (didn’t have a sewing machine, I was only 17 at the time. I used it to make an embroidered shirt that was shown in the local library for 3 months… took me 3 months to do the embroidery. I would upload a picture if they only allowed it as I still have the shirt. It was my concert shirt for a while.
The pocket in the men's nightshirt is there so they have a place to hold their dream when they wake up for a late night snack. Saucy.
First rule of sewing. Measure twice and never assume.
😂 OMG that's the hardest part for we chaos sewists!
And always leave a 1 inch seam allowance if you're unsure
@@hailyframbach6589 good one!!
OhOh! Flash back--my Mom and I made view 3. We even found a slightly shimmery darkish blue fabric. I wore it to my boyfriend's high school graduation. We have now been married 50 years :)
my SIL made my dad those sleep things. He loved them, the pocket is good for a tissue. I was about 12 when she made them for him.
The nice thing about the Simplicity 9178 is that with a 3/4 length sleeve, your daged sleeves don't get in your food.😆

Saucy video!!! Love it!!!
What a hoot. I’ve never in my adult life been tiny enough to wear these patterns, but I just so enjoyed watching and giggling at your comments. Thanks for the smiles and giggles!
you have internal organs my dear. these patterns were written for mannequins and clothes hangers
Good point 👏👏👏
That one Advance model reminds me of Debbie from Adams Family Values. 😂

I love that the first Advance pattern model looks like Rose Byrne as Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman from Tim Burton's Dark Shadows.
why do women's pj today have pockets when our regular clothing doesnt?
SAUCY!!!! Vogue 9428 View C!!!! What got me was the "Hancock Fabrics" stamped on one of the patterns. I made a faux fur jacket in February together with and for my 9yo niece.
White and 3inch long fur - she loves it 💖
Not a vintage pattern though.

Saucey 1St time here! 😊
Welcome!!
Ha ha! I had to leave and come back to watch this saucy video! I love your patterns, see you soon I hope!
Saucy! Never would have guessed I like the 1970s patterns so much
It’s about time I click!!! I’m excited for this
I just jeep picturing Kate Middleton wearing a lot of these!!! She has such a trim figure!!!

Side note, the Advance pattern photos... they look like they've dipped into a sampling of "Mothers Little Helpers". Which is period? Oye...
I agree A vintage basic skirt pattern is a great beginner project. Better than a similar current multisize pattern
I get stepford wives for the models. 🤣🤣
It’s sleepable with a collar and a pocket 😂 my Christmas pj’s always have a collar and pocket

Hi
I used to have that Mary Martin Pattern 9227 found it in the 90s. I actually made it in Aqua blue with White Polka Dots. Lovely pattern easy to sew.
I also just purchased that Advance coat pattern. 4828
I have the original Advance Catalog Book from 1951!
Love your Channel..😅
Saucy! This was awesome to watch. I love seeing the variety of patterns through the decades and also just what you can find. It’s like a treasure hunt.
Saucy! “Give me a kiss”, “Give me a $20” is possibly one of my favorite lines from a movie. Ever!
I loved this video because I LOVE vintage patterns!! Oh how I wish I had my Mother's patterns. I try to find the patterns she made my clothes from when I was a child and teen in the 1960s/70s. I had to get that 50s wedding gown with the shrug, the design is gorgeous!
It really is stunning!
I love how so many patterns have a separate, premium price for you. This pattern is 85¢, but Stephanie Canada pays the saucy tax, so it's 95¢ for her!
I enjoy watching your videos while hand sewing. Your pleasant voice often masks my cursing and I look forward to the screaming goat, so I can join in!
Saucy.... I love the 70s full length fake fur pattern. I'm really sitting here contemplating the disaster that sizing it up to a size 28 would be.
Saucy Sue busy looking for one of the patterns on your website. Have to keep checking because it's not there yet. The suspense is killing me!

I love those vintage coats. Did you ever notice that the majority of the dresses are long and narrow but the coats are flowy and tapered?
Wander around the house in the sleep shirt with reading glass that you forget in the pocket and promptly sleep on them.
Saucy sister! Love the vintage patterns. I bought a 1970's dress pattern from you and ended up making it into a night gown. There will be more of those because it is so comfy!
Saucy...Fake Fur coat Batman!! 😮 Why am I so tempted and intrigued?! 😂🤣😂🤣
Saucy. That evening gown with the dramatic coat ooooo!!!!
Saucy! I remember sewing several of those patterns! I want a couple of these, and I can size up! I just need to see pattern piece shapes.

SaUcY suitcase! Love that you bought a thrifted suitcase just to bring these back!
Saucy and Spicy! The under garment collection needs it's own video.
Regarding the men's nightshirt: i have a pair of jammies with a collar, breast pocket, and pants pockets. Said jammies are soft, warm flannel and are easy sleeping in Chicago winters.
Saucy Shawl!!! Pretty much every pattern in that last stack had me gasping.
Saucy Olympia feature moment! I live about 20.l minutes from that shop 🎉🎉🎉 and pants and ponchos be with you
Saucy hoods from those sassy Seventies! (my personally favored era). Definitely going to check out the site, and thanks for the extra time today!
Nightshirt pocket for hankerchief, collar to keep neck warm when sleeping.
Saucy long videos are the bestest
You should make it!!!
The maternity tent at 23:11 looks like what "sister woman" wears in cat on a hot tin roof
I love that last one with the deep v back bralette. Super cool. It was saucy!
Saucy!! It looks a few of the oversized Vogue patterns have a Princess Di look. My heart fluttered
She was such a gem! And what a WARDROBE!
been having so much fun watching these vids!! access to a whole new world of SAUSY styles
I don't know my size in inches (as an Aussie, I think in metric), but some of those 1940s patterns look adorable.
My favorite pattern is that collection of saucy vests... have had it pinned for months! ❤
Wonderful way to start the weekend! So SAUCEY! 🎉
So saucy! That last coat pattern was Gorgeous!!!!!
Stephanie was definitely saucy in this video!
Saucy for sure…loving the vintage patterns!!!!
I giggled at about 43:?? when you said it had a straight jacket, because I heard straitjacket!
SAUCY Marian! I wish it was closer to my 38" bust! May need a fur coat 🤔 And Vogue 9823 would make an amazing jacket for a cold weather wedding!
Saucy Vogue 9428 those sleeves remind me of 1830s dresses. Show Lady Rebecca.
Saucy fur coat pattern! Super jealous of whoever snagged that one! 😊
It is stellar and was one of the first to find a new home!
You would look good in the Snood Turban. My mom had one in a pic from the early 50s. Very smart looking.
Saucy Red Head. Lol I love it when you talk patterns. They are some very spectacular find. I do enjoy the 50,60,and 70 the most but I believe it's because these areas are what I grew up with. 80's was when my girls were growing up in like you I never cared for all those styles.
That was one saucy opera cape! I would love it if only I had a reason to wear one.
Saucy condiments for all, but with magic to never drip on clothing.
I love the saucy "opera" coat. Pretty sure I had one essentially the same for Barbie.
Saucy - My father had one of those nightshirts. The pocket was for his cigarettes.
I love the 40s and 50s patterns.
