Great to see a video from their late winter trek to the north. I saw them in Des Moines a day after this was recorded (March 15, 2023). A great thrill that kept me awake on the 4.5 hour drive home overnight to outrun a blizzard. Well worth it.
Thanks a lot! Since the name of the tune is not indicated, I note that this is Hot Town (with the first few bars cut off) by Fess Williams (1929), included in the new album of the same name by Tuba Skinny (2023). When did you make the recording? According to Tuba Skinny's schedule, they performed this year at The Dakota, Minneapolis, MN on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. There were two sets at 7 pm and 9 pm.
Thanks for the clarification. There are a lot of Tuba Skinny videos on TH-cam (more than 2000) and for fans like me who are interested in the history of the band, it is important to understand what was recorded and when. Please tell me, when was that Tuba Skinny's set in d.b.a., where instead of Craig and Barnabus, a violinist and saxophonist play? Comments on those three videos are disabled and I can’t ask there. Just as I can not thank you there for posting the video of this unique collaboration. And sorry for not replying sooner. You left the answer not under my comment, but under the video, so I didn't get an alert.
@@jouli_rewI too am interested in the history of the band. I cannot understand why some people turn comments off (or is it that comments are off by default and they are not turned back on?). When I want to comment, it is usually to ask a question, or answer someone else's question, or even to post the lyrics of a song, and those reasons, of course, require comments to be ON.
I've noticed that It's not unusual for one of the regular band members to be replaced when they play at the d.b.a. Could be for various reasons. Greg has sometimes been replaced by a young talented banjo player (I think his name is John Parker) and Max takes the guitar instead of banjo. Robin has sometimes been replaced by a girl called Dizzy (who also plays in other N.O. bands) or an elderly guy called Chaz. And I read somewhere a long time ago that Barnabus doesn't play on Fridays. The violin the other day was a first time for me. Not sure if it really fits in with TS...? The tune is "Ice Cream" and I think it was recorded on 5th August. Jonathan Doyle used to play saxophone in many of the earlier videos several years ago, but that's not him in this video.
@@tonygreen2682 You are saying the right things, but I would clarify that the replacement of musicians does not only take place in d.b.a. but also at other locations. There are over 2000 videos of Tuba Skinny on TH-cam and there are all sorts of interesting substitutions and collaborations, including Tuba Skinny playing without Shaye (as well as without or with the replacement of any other member). As for the violin, there are a number of excellent videos of Tuba Skinny, where Shaye plays the violin instead of the cornet (as well as the piano and almost a dozen other instruments, she is a multi-instrumentalist). There are a number of videos from 2009 of Lulu De La Rue playing violin with Tuba Skinny in the US and Europe. Lulu played the violin on all tracks of the band's first album "Tubaskinny" (2009). It seems there were other violinists, but now I don’t remember right away. However, I don't think this video was recorded on August 5th. On August 5th, it was just posted on this channel along with more than 50 other videos. And this channel itself was created on August 5th. I don't think a channel creator who looks like a newbie TH-camr in a number of ways could have had time to do all this big work on the 5th of August after the Tuba Skinny's set ended at 9pm.
@@BudgieJane I think I've figured it out. Comments on some videos are disabled because inexperienced TH-camrs mistakenly selected “Made for kids” (set by channel author) or “Set to made for kids” (set by TH-cam) in the “Made for kids” filter in the “Restrictions” column on the Videos tab. Under such videos, instead of comments, we see the signature Try TH-cam Kids. Probably some people mistakenly think that these options mean “children are allowed to watch”, whereas these options serve to protect children, so many video features are disabled (comments, the ability to be added to playlists, etc.) For comments to be open, the channel author should select “Not made for kids”, or better “Not set” in the “Made for kids” filter.

Thanks Gusto Nola greeting from Argentina, hug 😊
Thank you for this little moment of pure happiness .RCG the french

I was at the 9 set. They killed it. I can’t wait for their return.

Super👍👍👍
Does Tuba Skinny ever play at the Carlyle in Manhattan?
Love to see Erika banging hell out of her drum. A classic performance by them all.
