This group is one of our national treasures here in the U.S.!! They completely nail it for being such a young bunch. The original players from the 30's and 40's would definitely approve.😊👍
I’m an 82 Years old English drummer still working and have just discovered this fabulous band love the washboard played one of these in the 1950s in a skiffle band
Barnabus has got Kid Ory down for sure. Great performance. Also Mr. Eastwood is top notch. It still amazes me how tourists and others walking by act like they or actually have no clue WHO Tuba Skinny is while others stop to listen. It's just laughable. What do they expect out of New Orleans, the corporate radio classic play list? The Rap station? the Country playlist? This is just perfection here. Jesus help us all...certainly the city council, mayor, and other politically powerful for profit motivated rich don't seem to care what ambassadors they are to other countries, and the impression they have made around the world and the country, about how great New Orleans is supposed to be. it does not get nay better than this. Open up Royal Street, it's time, it's musical heritage and culture to return for the tourists and little kids to see and hear. Hands on music education. Something the USA needs to value more than all the other superficial commercialism junk and violence they are expose to 24/7.
I honestly think that most of the folks standing around listening are enjoying the music but think that Tuba Skinny is just some folks that come together a "jam" together for a bit for fun and a little extra money and they have no ear for really, really, good tight music and these folks are not a weekend band, but are all professionals. Oh and that they are playing some old second hand super inexpensive insturments.
I don't think anyone ever gets ''weary'' of hearing them doing this tune. Energetic performance all around. The band sounding as tight as ever. Shaye at 4:05 ever the organizer retrieving the cash put in Barnabus's case. Got to love her. A special Thank You to Mr.Sterling for recording the band's triumphant return. Outstanding job!!!!!!

My personal opinion is that the biggest difference between Tuba Skinny is the amount of ensemble playing they do. Most bands seem to follow "everyone gets a long solo every song" as written in stone. Tuba Skinny is pleasantly more flexible. Tuba Skinny's other great strength is that they have no weak link.

@@JamesSterling I was aware of his passing. Sad. Playing for Change captured some of Grandpa Elliot's work supported by musicians around the world. So glad it's on TH-cam. I'm guessing that Tuba Skinny is a recognition/takeoff as a tip of the hat to Tuba Fats.
