Excellent video. You did a great job in the dialog explaining all the necessary cables. I have the z817 and computer already. Now all I need is the FT-817ND and signalink and I'll be ready to test this out. 73
Mike, The Z817 manual explains about the CAT feedthru from PC to FT817. The Z817 needs the link to initiate a tune cycle when you press Tune. The PC sends CAT commands to the FT817 to control it. There is only one CAT (ACC) port on FT817. The wattmeter gives a little more information about what is going on when you Xmit. Good luck with your station. It is a lot of fun. 73, N7JFP
Only one CT62 cable is needed for PC usb port to the Z817 computer port. The cable from the Z817 radio port to the FT817 is supplied with the Z817 tuner. Good luck with your setup. 73, N7JFP
So, the cable from the Z817 radio port to the FT817 supplied with the Z817 tuner IS not a required CT62 cable? I already have CT92. Just making sure I don't have to buy another one.
I was happy to view your set up. The diagram was also helpful. It just so happens I have the same set up; however I would like to know what cat cable are you using from the Z817 to the laptop and how are your results. A look at the set up running from the laptop would have been sweet. I didn't have a cat cable thats why I asked. Thankyou in advance and again really enjoyed the vedio.
@softstart100 My laptop only has USB ports. I found a USB CAT cable for the FT817 on Amazon. "Yaesu USB CT-62 CAT Cable FT-100 FT-817 FT-857 10 Foot Version FTDI Chipset Supports Windows 7 64bit by Valley Enterprises." It is amazing that you can be heard thousands of miles away with only 2.5 watts. Good luck putting your station together. N7JFP
WSJT-X digital modes with Ham Radio Deluxe for mainly control and logging. I use GridTracker and JTAlert for the audio and visual effects. Thanks for watching. 73, N7JFP
Question all hooked up with exception of the (Computer Cat USB) , I do not have this cable but I'll bet it is the one item I did not buy the programming cable is that a correct assumption? You order ft-817nd, z817, SignaLink, pl259 pigtail, mfj1899T and still come up short. Great video, got here via setup for psk31 video.
John, you need the Yaesu USB CT-62 CAT Cable. They come with a USB or a Serial port on one end. Setup your PC to run PSK31 and you are ready. Thanks for watching. 73, N7JFP
N7JFP Thanks, I ordered the programing cable ADMS Gigaparts said either will work and software with ADMS only three dollar difference, so I opted for that option just in case I might need it. CYA
I am using the data port on my 857d into the RADIO port on the signal which is connected via USB to my laptop. I am unable to see any receive in fldigi.
Check the settings in Sound and the SignaLink produces two USB IDs in Windows. Assign one as Microphone and the other as Speaker. Assign Microphone to Audio Input in Fldigi. Also, watch video "JT65-HF test with a FT817" -- USB Audio CODEC is the SignaLink. Good Luck 73, N7JFP
Hi Lawrence, I've got an FT-817nd, Z817, and my lovely wife just got me a Signalink for Christmas so, besides an SWR meter (which I will hopefully be picking up soon), I've got an identical station. Being that I am fairly new to digital modes, can you tell me why you would want to hook the Z817 up to your computer? Can you control the radio with the computer that way? Thanks much! Mike KJ6DRG
@N7JFP thankyou; just what I needed to complete my install, will be viewing the rest of your programs to gleen information to aid me along.

Hi, thanks for the video! I have same configuration and I employ flidigi for cw, what software do you use for cw and digital modes? 73

Will this work without the Signalink? Where the data cable is wired directy to the computer' USB port
.
I have not tried a direct connect USB. The audio card is built into the radio. Should work. Check the manual. 73, N7JFP

It just passes data through because Z817 has to be connected to the ACC and so does the computer, but this reply is 6 years late 😋
Follow my diagram with the SignaLink and using a CAT cable and you should have your system up and running in no time. Good Luck. 73, N7JFP
Way too complicated for me.
