I remember seeing this guy on Man vs Food years ago, good to see he is still around handing out beef sandwiches :)
I used to make this at a pizza place I worked at for several years. Everything from trimming the beef, measuring the seasoning, cooking the right time (4 hours) and slicing the perfect thinness, and even soaking the sandwich right... it's all taken seriously. Don't worry about spending a few dollars more for authentic real homemade beefs, it's worth it compared to the premade stuff.

There was a place called Duke’s Drive-In located in Bridgeview was so good! Best Beef Sandwiches I thought!
@@tvviewer4500 the place I worked at is called Johnny's Pizza in Kankakee IL. Can't say id recommend working there but I still crave their Italian beefs

i just want to know how long the owner is going to live with chicken arms and a cow belly.
For me it's the jus. It has to have good beef flavor, a balance of seasonings and not be criminally oversalted. Papa Charlie's frozen beef was quite good but has too much sodium now.

Itallian beef is awesome. I grew up in Chicago so everytime I go back I always have to order it. No other state has it. You can find places claiming to have it but it's never the same. In Chicago they use a specific type of bread from turano bakery and other areas never season the beef or aujus the same way.
do you consider portillos authentic?
@martin alvarado used to be. Then they sold out to another company. I'll still eat there once in awhile but I prefer Al's or johnnys
@@martinalvarado8109 It is highly location dependent here in IL. While they did sell out to a hedge fund, the beef can still be good if prepared properly. Particularly the Schaumburg location. Otherwise, my two personal favorites are Al's & Frannie's.

I grew up in Chicago, and been all over the US. They have the best food no doubt. Between the Polocks, Italians and Mexicans, oh boy don't plan on staying skinny.. 😂

I’ve had all types of sandwiches, in different states and different countries.
No one tops a delicious Chicago beef.
The only addition I’d make, is melted mozzarella cheese on top, then we’re good my friends. 👌🏻

Man,this is one reason I miss the Windy City,been living in South Texas for many years now, but every chance I get to go back to the city,one of my 1st stops is that place.
Juice on the side, so the bread is not soggy. 👍

Clearly you are not from Chicago and have likely never eaten an Italian beef. It's not an Italian beef without the sogginess.

@@AmazingChinaToday I was in Milan & Florence just 2 months ago. Anyone who compares a Chicago staple to true Italian cuisine, is clearly just not as well-traveled & educated as they believe. Italians are just too foolhardy and stubborn to adapt to new-age techniques. The Japanese are far better at that - while also incorporating the soul of their ages old traditions.
I came here a lot as a student at UIC. Of all the Italian beef sandwiches I've eaten since then, I think Al's is still my favorite.

I like Sweet peppers on my Italian Combo sandwich, but Guiardinara peppers on my Italian Beef sandwich.
Peppers are yuck, They have no flavour and a mushy texture,I remove them from my food

Used to walk here to eat when I was a student at UIC. Also like their hotdogs. They’d wrap the fries with the hotdog so the seasoning would get onto the hotdogs.
Yeah wrapping the fries with the dog is amazing. Unfortunately, less places are doing it now, it bothers me.

Al's Beef is definitely top 5 beef in Chicago, unfortunately the workers there are some of the rudest.

This place is very close to the world class hospital, Rush University Medical Center near by. We went to Al’s every time we had to deal with a surgery and hospital stay. Just fyi, it’s delicious and convenient.

On the bucket list. It's funny. You can get a Chicago dog with the authentic 7 toppings, but you can't find somebody that sells this. I'm in Western PA.

I seem to recall that Chris' spiel was almost identical here as when Adam was there, right down to "The Italian Stance".
Depending on where you’re from, the location in tinley park, Il is just off of I-80. It is really good but not the best. I would recommend with the sweet peppers. I usually go with giardineira, but this stuff is not as good as it looks.
Als #1 Italian beef is the best sandwich I ever tried in my life. If you're ever in the Chicago area i 100% recommend going here.

I've traveled all around the USA and you really can't find a good Italian Beef anywhere but Chicago.

I don't think stainless steel and vinegar is compatible together. I think the container has to be some sort of food grade plastic or glass. Not sure about a plastic garbage can though

having quality fresh bread or rolls is an essential part of having a good sandwhich. And that is why I never buy sandwiches from franchise sandwich shops, there bread /rolls are awful. And people who only have eaten in these places wouldn't even know what I am talking about. Go to an family owned Italian deli that gets fresh bread/rolls from a local bakery (like Calandra's bakery (fresh baked Panella Bread, or Semolina rolls, etc)
It has trashcan components.
