      It sucks now. Replaced by TH-cam entirely IMO. I can watch cooking, food, and wine shows from around the world on my schedule now. I used to love Food Network, even when it was called TV Food Network!

    growing up in Elmwood Park ILL 50s-60s we always went to Johnnies on north ave. for italian beefs, and being Catholic we couldn't eat meat on Fridays, so they offered pepper and egg sandwiches. i'm retired in Az. now, so we go to Portillos for italian beefs, Maxwell Str. Polish, and Vienna Beef hot dogs...

    Hello from Texas I miss Italian beef. I love Chicago. Little Italy used to live over there on Taylor Street. Can't wait to return same day.

    Way better than a philly cheese steak! That’s for sure

    • @DarkMatterX1
      @DarkMatterX1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know about that. They're both awesome, but different. A good philly uses better quality beef. The bread on an Italian beef is way better though. I wouldn't turn down either one and make them both fairly frequently.

      @@DarkMatterX1 I love Philly Cheesesteak. Even had the best, Dalessandro's. It is delicious don’t get me wrong. But I don’t see how a thin cut ribeye cooked on a griddle with onions and cheese can compare to these majestic looking 4 hour slow roasted, heavily seasoned roasts with the gravy and peppers. I'd have to try it to truly compare.

    • @ramencurry6672
      @ramencurry6672 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, I grew up in Philly too. The Italian beef has a more complex flavor and the wet texture is unique. A good version of a cheesesteak in Philly will have better texture though but I find the Chicago sandwich more complex with the flavor dimensions

    Sure, Al's is an experience. You gotta go at least once, your bucket list. As for Seasonings. Al's throws the Kitchen Sink in there. Many can be left out. Italian Beef has 4 basic Seasonings, Salt-Pepper-Garlic-Oregano. You can add more, but be careful. One Seasoning Chris Pacelli briefly touches upon in this vid, Paprika. And yeah, such is a superb seasoning that crosses into many cultural cuisines besides Hungarian. Might explain why some Beef Sammys have juice that is slightly reddish?
