That demo was so unreal, I’m still so mad my parents never wanted to buy it for me. I get it, it was expensive and we were sorta broke but such a fantastic concept that deserved so many more variations.
The game is a great masterpiece of Tokuro Fujiwara and his team! the game should get attention. So that there is a third part or remastered, i wait for third part long time😭
I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT TOMBA! My grandparents had it at their house (for some strange reason) and I used to play this all the time with my cousins. We have a video game review show and this will definitely have to be a future episode. Great review (especially the relation to Fujiwara).
Tomba is HARD! We used to have the demo as kids so I was very excited to finally play through as an adult but my god! The difficulty spikes into the stratosphere at certain points. I'm gonna be at this for quite a while I think 😂.
I can think of a few points of difficulty actually quite a few the worst that I think of Is the jungle. Without a full powered fire amulet it can be worse than normal
I got the demo for this with spyro as a kid and spent 2 years scouring second hand stores for it because it sold so poorly in the PAL region. One of my favorite games as a kid, sad the sequel didn't really live upto it and nothing else tried to do anything similar.
Yeah, I rented the sequel as a kid and was really disappointed by it back then. I'm interested in revisiting it some time in the future, but I don't really have high hopes.
@@Aboveup I actually finished every quest in Tomba 2, something I never did in 1. It wasn't bad, it was just "more of the same." But as you say in the review, no one else has made anything else similar in all these years, so maybe that's a good thing! The main reason I disliked it as a kid is that the graphics were more traditional PS1 3D, which I don't think holds up as well as the sprites-on-a-3D-background look of Tomba1. I had similar criticism of Breath of Fire 4 vs 3. As an adult, I'm more willing to let that stuff slide.
Good review! I feel like I understand why Tomba plays the way it does and why people like it. I never got used to the momentum grabbing but I feel compelled to now.
Just because you have the hair doesn't mean you have the powers lol . Or at least that's what I remember from the commercials. I loved this game , I remember thinking the graphics were amazing and the game play was so fun. Thanks for the great review.
I could never finish ALL events. I missed the barrel one on my first plaything, but on the second? I couldn't repeat my win of the best medal in the race. I still have the save file from when i was 11 somewhere, maybe I can rectify that :I
I've never been inclined to play Ghosts and Goblins. But seeing the connection with this game....that might change :P Who woulda thought an obscure game would entice people to play a commonly known one :I
Tomba! Was my favorite game. As soon as I played the demo my dad bought me the game. He saw how much I played it. Tomba had so many moves, tools and clothes, it was so complex too. My hands used to cramp up playing this lol The soundtrack was fire. It was a good game for the time period.
If anyone wants to play this game its available on the European, American and Japanese PS3 Stores. The price varys based on were you buy it and the American version of Tomba is available on the European PS3 Store.
Ok, this is actually a really good video. Haven't played Tomba, but I've been meaning to for a while and this video kinda makes me want to give it a shot. (Even though those load times look kinda doodoo)
Seeing as how they're gonna release a remake for 'Ghosts n Goblins', I really hope that they also do a remake for 'Tomba' and its sequel. Never played the sequel, and I would love to. Let it have ports to consoles other than PS4/5 too (Especially the Switch 😜).
It is a a bit different, upgraded some things, but lost some charm in the meantime. Being much easier is the biggest vice for me... thus I prefer 1 over 2.
As an indicator of how good that game handles events and progression - I beat it as a child, barely speaking English, with some help of a dictionary
For a while i thought i was the only one who played this game.
you are not alone
Same
good point
Never knew about the director Fujiwara now a lot of the mechanics make sense.
This game was ahead of its time.
SONY NEEDS TO LET THIS MAN MAKE A TOMBA 3
That demo was so unreal, I’m still so mad my parents never wanted to buy it for me. I get it, it was expensive and we were sorta broke but such a fantastic concept that deserved so many more variations.
i bought it at blockbuster when they were phasing out psx stuff and it was like 12 dollars

I had no clue all those other games I loved had anything to do with Tomba. I looked for later games Whoope Camp made, but not the ones this man made
such an underrated gem

Did you beat it?? I'm on third playthrough and its dope

Wow we've got our own OP for tomba ?
My younger self is squeeling like a fangirl... eh childhood
I wonder how much of my childhood was wasted in loading screens?
this is one of my favorite games from my childhood, thanks for talking about it Above, it doesn't get brought up enough anymore.
I've never been inclined to play Ghosts and Goblins. But seeing the connection with this game....that might change :P

Anyone else notice the tombi logo icon looks a lot like the sonic team logo icon, just pink.
Theres nothing like old games im going to get a new playstation just so i can appreciate some of these classics again
You picked a bad time to start buying old games. The prices of old games have skyrocketed since covid.
Anyone remember playing this on the PS one enhanced demo disk? 😃
This was one of my first video games. I didn't know any english and I was too bad to progress in the game. Good times.
game holds up, played hundreds of games and this is one that i remember.
Love this video. I have both 1 and 2. just 100% tomba 2, working on the first still lol.
God Bless you ALL!
Great video!
**sip** Aahhh...
Tomba.
Now that's a good game.
This game has some missable events like the funga, barrel and plant a flower.
I remember playing the demo and loved it and very rare to get online on eBay on ps1
If anyone wants to play this game its available on the European, American and Japanese PS3 Stores. The price varys based on were you buy it and the American version of Tomba is available on the European PS3 Store.
Ive never really played the first one but Tomba 2 was the shit. I had it back on the original ps1
Im glad I bought this game when it was still cheap. Can’t believe how expensive this and SOTN are now jesus christ
Tombi 1 and 2 are just fantastic. ❤
I love this game!
we need to send sony a message for a remake of tomba or at least a remaster for ps 4 and 5

This game needs a remaster.

Best game on the PS1
Tomba community UNITE
THERE MAKEING A Tomba REMAKE
Controls are way too clunky for me. I was hoping at some point the game would suck me in but after an hour or so It was quitting time.
Found my old ps1 games i stole from gamestop as a kid and am currently replaying the shit out of tomba
I would really prefer if you'd be quiet
Nothing is more fun than a silent review.
@@siveon298 I hope this person is joking.
@@CerealKiller lmao, people respond to year old comments. well, while you're here, could you explain the meme to us?
@@OnlyInDr3ams Just copy/paste this phrase in YT search :P
Tomba 2 is infinitely better
Thanks I'll be sure to find a copy
