Gotta say, SLOW BURN horror becoming more prevalent by the mid-2010's has been such a positive direction for the genre. The Witch, It Follows, The Neon Demon and The Invitation all came out around the same time.
It Follows does not belong in the Slow Burn category. It starts pumping right out the gate. The others yes I could fall asleep. Good movies, but fuck speed up a bit.

The Others not being on here is what gets me the most. The movie was thrilling and absolutely fantastic and the plot twist completely subverse the rules of horror. Absolutely brilliant.
American psycho was a big miss from the list. Creep also perhaps deserved a spot, as did the conjuring 2 (better than the first film?). I'm never quite sure why insidious was rated quite as highly as it was.

Cabin in the woods is one of my favourite films. It's a love letter to essentially all horror films and just so well done with the whole fourth wall thing.
The Strangers scared the ever living hell outta me. Why because it can really happen. There wasn’t a imagined boogie man. Or a unstoppable monster or witches and classic movie monsters or ghosts and goblins but creepy murderous human beings.
SAW is the best horror movie ever. I've never enjoyed a movie as much as SAW. Every chapter was great, with great story and characters. I'll never forget this masterpiece!
Tilli Poems The main character escapes the caves, gets in her car, and drives off. The new ending is just a jump scare, but the original one had extra stuff after the jump scare; the protagonist wakes up and is still underground with a little fire and you can see the mutants closing in on her as the camera pans out and fades to black. She hallucinated her escape.

seriously 'GET OUT' at no 2, am I missing something from the movie, the movie is more like a thriller then a horror. From my perspective 'US' has a more chance at a spot 2 then Get out if you are counting thrillers in a horror list..... -_-
This is a good list, and I think every film included is worth watching for horror fans. As a general comment and critique, though, I'd say that I think "The Descent" is far too low and "Hereditary" far too high. But I appreciate the effort you took compiling it and, as I said, I agree that all of these films are important (to horror fans, at least).

Andrew Terrell you don’t just shoot movies in absolute quiet, that’s a result of sound editing. The reason the movie is quiet is because of sound editing
The ONLY time I have been frightened by a movie was during and as leaving the theatre, in the dark, after 28 Days Later. Thinking that a rabies like virus is very possible overloads my scientific mind and gives me a bit of anxiety.
@@Xenobat No it was really good. That was one of the only horror movies that actually scared me, and i've watched IT. But you have your opinion and i have mine.
Horror is such a divisive category, what one person says is a great horror film, another person calls trash. It all depends what the viewer is looking for. In comedy movies the viewer expects laughs but in a horror movie it could be many things

Didn't care for The Ring and The Conjuring because they were so much hype and boring same with the Annabelle movies. I thought Cabin In The woods was absolutely boring. The Descent was ok of a movie. Absolutely loved Let The Right One In a lot more than Let Me In. And there And y'all not even mention Hostel, The Green Inferno which Eli Roth was inspired from Cannibal Holocaust, or even I Spit On Your Grave remake. I feel like You're Next should've made the list because it was like a hidden gem. And 31, The Devil's Rejects, or even 3 From Hell should've made this list they were really good movies.
CPTNMRVL Agreed! I watched it with my Husband one evening that he had to work a over night shift at work. So I was home alone that night. We lived across the parking lot of a bar. So from 11 pm until 4 am when the bar employees left I was awake hearing every sound. At about 3:15 am I heard someone knocking on my door like it was a dire emergency. So I stood behind the door with my husbands chrome baseball bat to ask who it was. It was just some drunk thinking he was at the wrong door

Very, very surprised that Sinister was not included on the list. That was so creepy and it sticks in the mind for a long time! The score was top notch.
Midsommar scared me more than Hereditary because to me, supernatural scares are way less frightening than human betrayal Also - where was Ready or Not? It is a great horror-comedy much like Cabin in the Woods

Its your opinion right?
More disturbing than scary to me but still horrific
I love how creative they make the storyline with all the traps
*The Witch* is brilliant no matter what genre you're a fan of.
Definitely one of my faves
@@ArkaeaFCL3 Same.
A masterpiece
You mean VVitch
@@gamingllama5831 You're right! That's the correct title
Great Video! *This list is amazing*
1. Climax
2. Let The Right One In
3. What We Do In The Shadows
4. Hereditary
5. The Nightingale
6. Get Out
7. The Babadook
8. IT
No insidious and sinister but black swan. Ok confirmed that's a joke of a list.
My exact thoughts
The Descent is woefully underrated.
Agreed! And the original ending makes it so much darker!
Xenobat what happened at the end?
Tilli Poems The main character escapes the caves, gets in her car, and drives off. The new ending is just a jump scare, but the original one had extra stuff after the jump scare; the protagonist wakes up and is still underground with a little fire and you can see the mutants closing in on her as the camera pans out and fades to black. She hallucinated her escape.
It's a lesser known horror movie but it's not underrated
So far, we love Horror Movies
how was orphan not even mentioned? a masterpiece in my opinion
There’s no appeal to Drag Me To Hell. It could easily be replaced with movies like Lights Out, Sinister, Insidious or Shutter (2004).
so right
Na i feel it is better than lights out ong sinister isnt that good of a movie and im disappointed you put shutter in the mix that movie is just ugh
Insidious is 2% horror movie 88% jumpscare and 10% horrifying
@@insidious140 Oh yeah, cause there's noooo jumpscares in DmtH. I stand by my comment.
@@MonyXChan i stand by mine
@@MonyXChan tf is dmth
Some of these movies are the reason why I don’t like traveling
seriously 'GET OUT' at no 2, am I missing something from the movie, the movie is more like a thriller then a horror. From my perspective 'US' has a more chance at a spot 2 then Get out if you are counting thrillers in a horror list..... -_-
Zeeshan Ali and that’s on peridot luhv 💅
Yup. Get Out is more like a thriller.
I mean Get Out still can qualify as horror
Zeeshan Ali ya Get Out is a good movie but it’s not scary at all
Not a bad list. 2 changes:
It Follows, is horrible
Sinister should be on the list.
It Follows had great promise until it started breaking its own rules.
It follows is excellent, you have no idea what you’re talking about
It follows is a garbage movie with a bunch of coming of age bs. Such a shit movie with one decent scare.
I know it's probably more psychological thriller, but I liked Hush. That was scary as!
I think it definitely belongs on this list.
Replace “Black Swan” and “The Witch” with “Doctor Sleep” and “Insidious” and this list would be perfect.
IMO Black Swan was great, i think it deserved to be on the list
Insidious over the witch, lol go watch Dora the explorer
THEdjpluto true
Um no, The Witch is the best horror movie of the century so far. Definitely shouldn’t be replaced
@@Lamidemonami7891 not the best, but top 5 imo
This is a good list, and I think every film included is worth watching for horror fans. As a general comment and critique, though, I'd say that I think "The Descent" is far too low and "Hereditary" far too high. But I appreciate the effort you took compiling it and, as I said, I agree that all of these films are important (to horror fans, at least).
Great list. I’m happy Evil Dead is here, but you forgot about Autopsy of Jane Doe!

whoopthereitis Agreed, also Woman in Black too
They need to make a second top 20 horror movies cause they missed alot.
C'mom. Drag me to hell is a comedy movie.
A damn good one (horror/comedy)
Horror Comedy is a subgenre of Horror. Like the Evil Dead trilogy or An American Werewolf in London.
so was the Babadook IMO

You put my favorite horror movie franchise in here
Saw.
Am I the only one who thinks it is ironic that A Quiet Place, a film about being quiet, was nominated for an Oscar for sound editing?
Andrew Terrell yes, you are. Sound editing is just as much about loud environments as it is quiet ones
Keith MacDonald but if the environment is quiet then there is no sound to edit.
Andrew Terrell you don’t just shoot movies in absolute quiet, that’s a result of sound editing. The reason the movie is quiet is because of sound editing
When it says that your the 2nd viewer, you school down to the comments and they are 50.
@Infinite_ Uplift exactly lol 😂
TH-cam is drunk(AGAIN!).
Hell yeah [REC] getting the respect it deserves
The Others should have been mentioned over Black Swan....
The ONLY time I have been frightened by a movie was during and as leaving the theatre, in the dark, after 28 Days Later. Thinking that a rabies like virus is very possible overloads my scientific mind and gives me a bit of anxiety.
„Mama“ should be on this list
That film is hilariously bad!
Comedy is equally as subjective though. For example, some people laugh at the fart jokes in Shrek, while others laugh at the more subtle references.
Xenobat thats true also, i guess what i mean is horror movies seem to be judged on a much broader scale than comedies. If someone asks about a comedy, its usually about how funny it was and did it make you laugh? but when it comes to horror i think people expect many different things
The Strangers was one of my favorite horror movies of the last 20 years.
@Md Mansoor heard of it. Never saw it.
@Md Mansoor cool.
That was stupid sorry
@Md Mansoor I love Eden Lake too!
Lovely Molly and The Autopsy of Jane Doe walk all over most of the movies on this list
Autopsy of Jane movie was shit no way it should’ve made the list there films that derserve to be on the list more than that for example insidious
Lovely Molly reminds me of my ex so it's trash lol
Man evil dead remake was amazing
Saw is the greatest horror movie of the century so far. It’s the most iconic and genuinely chilling (for when it came out) horror movie since the year 2000. Not including the sequels, but just the original film is legendary.
The Conjuring is my favorite
I'm so glad Watchmojo included our number 17 pick @ 3:12 💯 Legitimately my favorite foreign horror movie and all around favorite vampire movie 🎥
I think goodnight mommy should’ve been on the list
So pleased you included [REC] it's an excellent film and one of my favourites of the last 20 years.

Just found out Black Swan is a Horror movie...
The Strangers! Such an underrated classic. It’s genuinely terrifying
I'm gonna rewatch it now!
CPTNMRVL
Agreed!
@@maryallison0509 I probably would have done the same. But I'd grab a butchers knife 🔪 since I don't have a bat
@@maryallison0509 so did you watch the movie together or not was he working or home
If the characters weren't dumber than a bag of rocks, maybe.
I can’t like or dislike this video. I felt like at one reveal I was pissed, then super excited at the next. This list seems so all over the place!
Man, Watchmojo loves to pump out these horror movie videos with #2 and #1 always being Get Out and Hereditary. Wanna come up with something new?
@Noah - WatchMojo Not trying to undermine what you like, but don't ya think it just gets a little repetitive? I don't think you need to keep reminding us that you liked these movies all the time.
(By the way, this is constructive criticism.)
Hereditary was fantastic. Stop being a hipster
@@bunny_fang4664 I agree that it was fantastic. Now do we need to be constantly reminded that it was good?
It's a list of best movies so why not?
Hereditary deserves to be #1 and I'll take the ring at #2
I like the logic of saw it makes a lot of sense as most ppl sleep walk through their lives.

28 Days Later is slightly better than REC in my opinion.

Split? The Ritual? The Cure for Wellness? You put Drag Me to Hell on this list but *NONE* of those?!
Very, very surprised that Sinister was not included on the list. That was so creepy and it sticks in the mind for a long time! The score was top notch.
Once I got into the top 10 I’m like “oh crap, they’re going to make Hereditary number 1, aren’t they”
💤
A24 is amazing because not only are they terrifying, they're also extremely original and creative
Midsommar scared me more than Hereditary because to me, supernatural scares are way less frightening than human betrayal
Also - where was Ready or Not? It is a great horror-comedy much like Cabin in the Woods
Midsommar was not only one of the best movies I've seen in some time, it was also one of the most beautifully shot movies I've ever seen period.
All my fav horror movies..how is it that possible😄..i’ve watched every one of them atleast two or three times..some even more
But theres just one u can add on ur list - Jeepers Creepers
Man! I did not like The Witch when I first saw it in theatre but then I couldn't get it out of my head for such a long time after that I decided to watch it again...then again...and man does it get under your skin. Such an amazingly understated and under appreciated masterpiece
I love the entire series of Final Destination and the entire Saw series!
Thanks for the suggestions!
