I’m an IM doc, not a psychiatrist at all, but did work as a medical scribe in a locked psych unit before med school. To me, psychotic patients being afraid to leave their rooms (granted, it was a hospital and not a prison) was pretty common and was often a mix of what the other patients knew about them multiplied by pursecutory delusions. So I guess I don’t read in to much to the fact that RA was afraid to leave his cell.

I'm not a Dr at all, I'm an educator but have suffered from levels of anxiety throat my life. I would think FEAR would just be intrinsic, inherent within what they've told us about his childhood thru adulthood experiences. I don't think that's a level of perception, problem solving or sanity at all. I think it's just natural for this guy. He's afraid of everything good and bad.

Lauren, I love that you're calling the jerks out and defending Dr. John (not that he can't defend himself). I love that dynamic, that you have each others' back. And Dr. John, I do not blame you in the least for not wanting to be on TH-cam for a while. People can be so hurtful. I don't understand why someone would stay on your channel long enough to comment if they hate it so much. Just leave. No one is forcing you to watch.
You've also done a great job at being objective. I've watched a lot of other channels on this case and they talk about the emotions they feel or how RA sounds in calls, stuff like that. I don't want an opinion. I just want the information and that's exactly what you provide. I only want opinion when Dr. John is evaluating the information from a psychology perspective. Ngl, I love when I think the same thing as him; gives me a sense of pride that I "got it right" lol.
Anyway, haters gonna hate. But you have far more supporters. So the haters can F right off, in my opinion.

I am in exactly the same headspace. I so appreciate Lauren offering information in real time with very little commentary beyond noting things that were particularly effective on the stand, which she’s done for both prosecution and defense. I do really value her and Dr. John’s opinion, but I think the way they are forefronting this coverage is very respectful to everyone involved. I have had a really hard time with other sources of information because so much of it seems to be recycled information that is either not true or detached from a more nuanced reality (like solitary confinement vs. mental health watch - without stating one is better, there is a distinction). I honestly don’t know how I feel about a lot of things yet but I don’t want my conclusions to be shaped by information presented as fact that isn’t that black and white. I don’t know how anyone can be entrenched in an opinion without all the info.

@@ignor6581no...this is just an unfortunate consequence of law enforcement not doing their job the RIGHT way, and it's how the system works. If the officers do their job improperly, it works FOR the defense in many circumstances.
It is a long term consequences of government at large losing credibility and trust with the public, people are going to scrutinize their actions and they better be sure that they do their best to follow the rules on the books (just like the rest of us do, or risk the same fate...we all have to play by the rules).
I haven't decided yet, so this isn't biased in any way; the system is just set up this way to do its best to ensure a fair playing field from all sides, and that's why it is in everyone's best interest to treat people humanely-including prisoners.

I’m disappointed not to see an extensive analysis of what it means for someone to be confined alone for months, being filmed all the time. Most attorneys on different podcasts agree that they’ve never seen such inhumane treatment for someone who, in this country, is presumed innocent. The psychologist who treated him in prison admitted to being a true crime fan, and it’s no secret that the van was discussed locally. My perception is that she had a strong influence in implanting guilt into his mind. The entire case is a mess on the state’s part. We appreciate the time you take to bring us information on the case, but it’s clear you lean towards the state, losing impartiality. Disappointing.

This has been discussed numerous times in court. He got access to things many inmates dream of. This crap drives me crazy.

Solitary confinement for OVER a year, very little communication with family, shackled every time he exited his cell, followed around 24 hours a day with a camera, lights always on, and dealing with a very biased therapist (how do we know what she's been filling his mind with?) among other atrocities. Is this normal treatment for an "innocent till proven guilty" man? This is before this man ever went to trial!!! Where is the outrage? Im not saying he is innocent. Im waiting on all sides to present before i decide. But all of this horrible treatment makes me doubt the confessions and there's been very little concrete evidence presented.

My grandmother, born 1890, had a mental illness that was not diagnosed by modern standards. She was hospitalized for almost two years in the 1930's and treated with ECT. Whether she had a major depressive disorder with intermittent psychosis, or schizoaffective disorder, I don't know. She was never well. And she would never leave her house. or get in a car with a family member, out of perpetual fear. The notion that her fear of leaving her home suggests she was not psychotic is ridiculous to me. Back in the days Im sure times were different but I dont know enough about odinism to really say anything. Also I have a feeling that the 3rd party culprit theories in this case and the groups in them are some "spinnoffs" from the original groups and might be something darker. I cant rule it out, but I would really wish this case was investigated better and we had more facts and that there would be more transparency in the whole process. Now it's just a mess...
I dont understand how 1 person could have done the crime in the state's timeline, it doesnt make sense to me. Also I strongly believe that the defence should be allowed to present their case and theory so that then jury can decide which side has presented a better case. And also I find it so hard to accept that defence is not allowed to bring up the people who have been suspects and/or have confessed to the crime before. It just doesnt sit right with me.
The victims and their families deserve justice, and justice is that the real perpetrator is convicted. I dont know if that is happening and if this judge and prosecution are after the justified result or just someone to pin this to. I think all avenues should be visited and all evidence presented to the jury who can then decide fairly.

Doctor Not sure if you aware But Kathy Allens brother died around Christmas in a motorcycle accident. He was the caregiver of Kathy's parents. Many of us who have followed the case have speculated this could have been an abandonment trigger for Rick since he has been diagnosed with dependent personality disorder. This may have taken Kathy's focus off of Rick. Just food for thought since Kathy's brother passed away a couple of months before the crimes occurred. My thought was the crimes were a passive way of punishing her for her precieved abandonment. It's actually a bit narcissistic but I would imagine people with dependent personality order would possess some narcissistic/manipulative traits much like borderline personality disorder. Also it's been awhile since I've read the DSM-5 but if that's true that the defenses psychologist claimed something was not in the DSM-5 that actually is that's a really bad look to say the least considering the DSM-5 is the book/Bible to a psychologist. Hopefully the prosecutor points that out. Also not sure if you know this, but there was a domestic disturbance call to Ricks house by the wife, not sure if that was the incident where he put the G in his mouth. Most of Kathy's FB posts of her and Rick involved them drinking a lot and being bar flies. They were members of a billard club at a bar. It always seemed a bit toxic to me/enabling considering he was an alcoholic.

It is not possible to use a soft science like psychology to determine with 100% certainty whether these confessions are true or false. You have to focus on what 13 months of solitary confinement can do to an emotionally vulnerable person. And you have to focus on whether the confession is consistent with the evidence. The hardest part of this investigation is that there is no time of death that can rule suspects in or out. Somewhere between 2:32 pm, and when they were found the next day, around noon. I have never seen such uncertainty about time of death. For Richard Allen to have done this, he would have had to lift and carry a 200 lb girl over his shoulder. He is a cardiac patient. He would have been wet from the creek and very bloody. There is no explanation for why Abby's blood is missing from the scene. She was already on top of the phone at 2:32 pm when it stopped recording movement. She was already dressed when she was killed, and her blood was already missing. No water in lungs. Upper torso dry. Someone tried unsuccessfully to open the phone at 2:14 pm, and 18 minutes later, they are both dead with Abby on top of the phone, and they are some distance from the bridge. Make that make sense. I think Libby may have thrown the phone across the creek to keep the killer from opening it. They all crossed the creek to get to the phone, because the killer was obviously worried about what was on there. But they neglected to look under Abby? Something is very wrong here. You can't tell if it is a crime of opportunity or if it was planned. The undressing could be staging to mask the real motive. I feel like there is a 15% chance Richard Allen somehow did this, but we are missing critical information that would explain how. I also think he may have lied when he told his wife he went to the trail that same day, before the crime was known. The tower didn't detect his phone at the trails. No one saw a short man, and no one saw his car parked there. 15% chance he wasn't even there that day but wanted his wife to think he was, before he knew about the murders. 85% chance he is innocent and the people who did this are white nationalists. Look at the 2008 stabbing murder of 11-year-old Thomas Hunter in Omaha. It took 5 years to solve, and it was a miracle it was ever solved. Better to let complex crimes go unsolved than to railroad the wrong person for political reasons. Police departments that are inexperienced with complex homicides should probably not be involved at all in an investigation like this.

@alia9087 you certainly can have it both ways, OR ALL THREE, and logically, as well.
On Day 1 you may be perfectly sane, and on Day 2 not all there. Does Day 1 make Day 2 "not real?"
What if on Day 3 you're back to normal BUT start lying in increasingly creative ways to try to negate what you were told you said on Day 2? Day 3 is malingering, even if Day 2 was genuine.
Exaggerating genuine symptoms you're currently having is malingering too. 🤷‍♀️
And IF by Day 10 if you're in a rapid decline BECAUSE whether or not you're malingering they can't just let you starve to death or whatever you're up to, action must be taken to protect you from yourself, whether the primary CAUSE going on is genuine or feigned. They STILL need to keep you alive either way.
I hope that helped, and I mean that in a non-snarky way.

Respectfully, and knowing that Dr John certainly knows his stuff, I do disagree on numerous points in this video. I contracted mental health services for a prison and my daughter provided mental health group sessions for violent offenders in another prison. It was a horrible experience, not because of the people we counseled but because of the overt and even aggressive behavior by prison officials concerning mental health. They all, and I mean all in these two examples, considered mental health a joke and that all prisoners were faking. A real eye opener. God help the individual who finds themselves in such a hostile environment AND NOT EVEN CONVICTED YET, like RA. I witnessed abusive treatment, abusive language- both rampant. Now, this is just my experience, but let me just say that I was deeply impacted by the general conditions I witnessed in prison. Of course the environment affected RA’s mental health, and probably drove the confessions. I greatly appreciate all Lauren and Dr John are doing to put a light on this case, and I also greatly appreciate that they provide a platform we’re civil disagreement is honored.

Te Odin theory was first presented by both local law enforcement and the fbi. The defense tried to present the odinism angle but it was blocked by both the prosecution and the judge because it points to other suspects beside Mr Allen. This is just another reason why many outside lawyers are crying foul in this case. The defense keeps trying to work around all the evidence and other suspects that they can not talk about. Defense should be allowed to give all alternative cases to the jury and let the jury decide. This is not happening here in this trial. It seems like a cover up by the state and the judge.

The only concrete proof is his confession, which only occurred while he was in solitary confinement. Solitary confinement is reserved for convicted felons, not for Rich Allen. I don't comprehend why some claim he faked his condition; if someone has mental health issues and is very concerned about how others perceive him, being in a location with constant light and cameras on him for 24 hours, along with being under suicide watch for 13 months, could severely harm his mental state. All the evidence is weak from prosecution; it is not justice if that evidence only tries to make Allen the suspect; they have ignored other possible suspects. Convicting the wrong killer is not justice.

Thanks for the many sacrifices you have made to bring us the truth. Even in spite of those appointed to guard and uphold the law and constitution doing their best to pull the curtain down over the people’s eyes and hold back truth, as well as the lies. 💗🙏

“If you believe it’s true, then it’s true to you”. This can be applied to anything from Religion to psychosis. It’s definitely an answer if you’re smart enough to understand the meaning.

Quick note about your connectivity/buffering issues: most hotels have an Ethernet or hardline internet port. You can get an adapter for your MacBook for $10-$20.00 that might eliminate those issues and provide a more reliable connection.

Yes!! When in doubt, plug it in directly. Don’t do wireless. Any router can do this.
