I have been blessed to own a 2019 model for a couple of years now here in South Africa. They are so capable as long as you're willing to sit through difficult terrain. Its suspension is a little soft but what can you expect for such a low price. I bought mine second hand so it was even cheaper hahaha. I don't worry about dropping it much which makes it very confidence inspiring. The only complaint I have is that weird 19-inch front wheel. It does not like sand. Despite this, it truly is a little gem.
This was a awesome video you put together along with the Solvang video. I have had a dual sport bike most of my life and they have all been Hondas except one. I'm 72 now and think this would be a perfect fit for my age. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Great video, very good. This same model was sold here in Brazil for a long time, initially with 125 cc and later with 150 cc. Today it is for sale as the NXR 160 Bros, bringing more modernity with the digital panel, electronic injection, disc brakes on both wheels and, obviously, a larger displacement. We still don't have ABS, Ride Modes or Clutch Assist, but the bike is a top seller in the segment, a darling.
Saludos hermano brasilero! Nos encantan las xr acá en Sudamérica eh! Yo tengo un bros 125 2008 pero creo que es producción japonesa, no brasilera, pero los Xr son increíbles
I wish these reviews would stop focusing on the price of this bike. I almost bought one last weekend until I saw the actual price at the dealer. Sure, the MSRP is $2,971 but once the dealer adds on all their fees (at least here in SoCal,) the total was $4,447 BEFORE TAXES!!! Awsome...an entry level dual sport for under $3k! Oh, wait...over $5k out the door? I know I'm gonna pay sales tax but why would I pay a 50% dealer mark-up? The Honda website says $200 for destination but this dealer wanted $779. How hard is it to open a crate and put fluids in a bike? Evidently that costs $697! Ridonculous...capisce ridonculous?
It’ll be cool once they’re available used for the actual MSRP. People are gonna watch a few youtube videos, buy them, and then get bored once they realize it isn’t the type of they thought they wanted. It’s like paying $9-10k OTD on a brand new DRZ. It isn’t worth it, let the dummies with more money than sense buy them brand new so you can get it lightly used for half the price
That is just the reality of retail. You have overhead. Lots of overhead in fact (60% is actually very reasonable). It‘s just the way it is and because manufacturers want it that way because it‘s safe and convenient for them, it‘s never gonna change.
Cool little machine; awesome review too!!! As someone who daily rides his 2019 XT250, I can say that I personally love the "dorky" looks of a dual sport. I've gotten many compliments on it too!! 😉
The lack of fuel injection also keeps the newer riders away. Even my dealer tried to explain me away from a carburetor despite me having carbureted motorcycles and ATVs since I was 6. Yes I daily a PCX because it's easy, but I can adjust to carburetor needs having daily ridden a Genuine Buddy 50 for years.
In the long run its more fun to ride a slow bike fast than ride a fast bike slow. I've been riding for almost 50 years starting on RD250, then RD350, FZ600(raced at Willow Springs and Riverside Raceway), Katana 600, and the best handling bike I ever had a Buell XB12 SCG Lightning. I did have a pretty serious high speed crash into K-rail on the Buell so I decided I really didn't need to go that fast any more so the bike I've had the last few years is a '76 RD400. Love the smell of 2-stroke in the morning. When I first saw the XR150L a few months ago I said I have to get one of these. I wanted a white one like everyone else but, figure I wasn't gong to be 3rd in line so I took the black one on the lot. Now that I've added some mods to it I am glad I did get the black one because I know think it looks better. The price was low enough to put on my credit card to use the miles for all the mods I want. I only have 165 miles so far and went 150 miles before I hit reserve on 1st tank. It took about 2 gallons for 75 MPG but, I feel that will go up as it breaks in. Cruises 55 easily in 4th or 5th and I had it to 65 on flat ground with my 230 lb. larda$$. So far so fun.
@@sknapp19911 Since I'm just barely hitting 400 miles because of lots of triple digit days and not enough free time. I haven't held it wide open for any length of time but, the first long ride I did I actually hit 65 with a breeze at my back. It seems to be able to do 50 in either 4th or 5th but, I have added at least 10-12 pounds of accessories on top of my 230 so I'm pleased so far with it. Last weekend I took a 26 mile round trip at 55 without going wide open for any length of time. If I do want to go faster I can always ride the RD.
This is very well articulated review about the benifits of having this Honda XR150L. You have said all the positives or even the negative that can make this Japanese 150cc bike better in the future. Especially the looks of it . 👏
Watching this I'm getting nostalgic for my old XR200RD from '83. Close ratio 6 speed, heaps of suspension travel and weighing in at about 100kg. Pin it's ears back and it red lined at 105kmh/65mph and could stay there till the tank emptied. Only had the front wheel so you had three points to park it on when you stopped. Used it heaps on and off road.
Just for a 150l and it’s so fun! It’s an upgrade from my Navi and falls between it and my wife’s adv150. Once I get comfortable with a manual I intend to try taking it on some highway trips (rural state highways, no interstate) so excited for spring!
I just came back from a trip to Medellin Colombia and these bikes are everywhere in Latin America and Asia just as you mentioned. Folks love them and they are reliable! I got one in May and it's a great bike IMO. Good video!
If its little motor is anything like the cg250 motors in the knock offs they will last. My hawk 250 was my backroads adv. Did almost 60k gps recorded miles on it. I had to retire the bike because the frame started to crumble after 5 years and 58,872 miles. Motor still is going strong though even after nearly 30k or more at full pin. Motor is now in a 79 XL 125 frame I paid 175 bucks for. The heart is still going. 😂
Nailed it Tanner Honda XR series are legendary, and this is what Honda are good at. Shame the Honda head office have dropped the ball in Aus with the 300 L and the 450L. Supply chain and model offering now in Aus is poor.
I bought this bike almost two months ago to commute back and forth to work out here in Arizona. 12 miles a day and I normally just get gas on Mondays spending around 3 dollars. I generally go 55 on surface streets and to go faster I would have to be quite a bit lighter. lol It's a good little bike. Paid for it in full and will use it as a commuter bike until it doesn't run anymore.
This is probably the best review I’ve seen so far. People talk about ‘growing into’ or ‘growing out of’ a bike. I’m a busted up old C rider who is approaching 60 years old, on a fixed income. That said I think I’ll ‘grow into’ this bike as I get older yet, lol. I ride a Honda Monkey now, which I love, but I ride off road 95-% of the time and the little wheels have bit me more then once. Although experienced, yet not ‘fast’ I think this bike is a good, solid choice for me. Thoughts? Thank you, Mike.
All my riding gear is on the way and I will be picking this up soon! originally wanted a grom but I like that this is bigger in size and has the exact same power to weight ratio. I did the math.
honda said mine will arrive in 3 to 4 weeks. i cant wait. it will be delivered to my house once honda gets the next batch and ships it. that is what our local shop told me today. the day it arrives they will call me to set up delivery date. i will do tons of videos on this bike.
I might have to grab one of these. perfect van camping and exploring bike. I ride a Xr400 with a plate but sure do miss my old xr200! Love the small bore play bikes and this is a great option.
This looks like a great bike for many different people. Glad to see that Honda is giving you some well deserved attention. I also like the small bore bikes they are just a lot of fun and in some instance more capable than the bigger bikes. A good example of this is evident in Itchy boots latest video getting through knee deep African mud.
IMHO, a 125cc two stroke would be the ticket for me. I'd need to bring spare plugs, piston rings & clutch plates though. Can you imagine watching Ewan McGregor & Charley Boorman on their GS's inching along in that sticky mud, lol.
Bikes like these make great hardcore adv's. How - carry a 10ltr fuel container and u have a range over 500 miles and u can potentially go more places than any other adv. Drop it and u can always pick it up, u can clutch start it in 5m of space, and if all else fails u can push it. U could even carry it in most cars with wheels, handlebars and front guard removed.
A few years ago, while on a vacation, I visited Solvang CA. To my surprise, there is a really cool little Motorcycle Museum right near the center of town. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day I was there, but I did peek through the front windows!
The dealership has one and I sat on it, it is much taller than what I thought it would be. Another bike that would be cool to have, but I definitely don't have the use or dream of having as of now. Then I test rode the 450RL and didn't pull a muscle trying to balance myself on that bike that day.
Not such a good deal when every Honda dealer in the western USA charges $1500 for "fees", turning your $3000 "affordable" small bike into a $4500 bike.
I’ve ridden an 07 crf150f sense it was new that year and hasn’t let me down once amazingly reliable motor just change the oil and don’t let your carb plug up.
Nice Video! I am trying to decide on a dual sport to meet my specific needs. And, would appreciate your answers to some of my questions on which one to choose. I am a large man 300lbs. Only need to use the bike when RV camping to ride on paved roads, dirt and gravel fire roads, sandy desert to take me to places where I can metal detect. Was thinking about a Honda CRF 300L Rally, The XR150 and The Kawasaki KLR 300 and Yamaha XT250. Is the XR150 enough? Can the springs and shocks be changed to accommodate my weight? All riding on trails will be slow and deliberate. Please help me choose the best bike?
When I picked up my new 300l rally, they had one of these. I was really impressed with the value of it. Congratulations on the collaboration with Honda!
I’ve always found it weird that everyone says that dual sports look bad. I’m personally a big fan of dirt bike like styling. So, for a first bike this is my option
So the CRF150L has not yet been released in the US market? Weird they opted for the XR over the CRF but I guess they were looking for a specific price point.
This is probably a dumb question but I have to ask, this is a bike(I am sure like all bikes) that you have to shift the gears like a manual car? It doesn’t shift automatically..
Spot on. Been riding 40 years. I have 200 miles on my new XR150 and will keep it forever. Exactly what I expected and more. If you know what you want and have realistic expectations, you should love this bike.
I'm 6'2" 250lbs I am just looking for a bike to take to and from work 40mile round Trip.. Can this bike carry a Rider of my size, mostly paved roads, a few dirt, and maybe a couple 2 Tracks on the way home??
Great review. But this model was never popular in Thailand as it is not sold there. In the Philippines it's available and there's where I bought it and enjoyed it. Congratulations to people in the USA who can finally get it too.
I have been riding one in the Philippines since 2017 and to me it's an excellent setup for the Philippines. I am happy I have it every day that I ride it which is quite a bit.
I've owned one for 4 years now. In Vietnam it's the ideal bike for the environment. Mine has 65k km on it. Fitted a big bore kit and it's really fun to ride. Amazed you can wheelie it 😂😂
i was thinking of buying one from saigon motorcycles but reading some comments saying they are poor quality shitboxes has put me off a little ? thanks for your comment .
@@RickyM6666 Pleasure mate, I didn't buy mine from Saigon Motorcycles but I have rented a couple of bikes from them. I also buy most of my bike related things from them. I believe Trevor Long is one of the best in the business.
Thanks for the review, well done. It's most likely an ok bike for its price point. One would think that for a few extra bucks saved up it would be well worth going after the crf or klx 300. At least a person would get improved hwy performance and alot more fun grinding the off road stuff... Maybe you'll do a back too back test video between the crf 150 and 300 related too the fun factor (s)... Which of these bikes is suited too which sector of riders... Thanks again for the your take on what you think of it... Cheers from the North
I've been using a similar 2015 model here in South Africa for motorcycle rider training, guided mini adventures and personal daily commuting. Besides quite a big difference in price here, it's lower seat height and weight are a lot more user-friendly for shorter/average height riders than Honda's CRF250/300L. I've been riding many, much larger dual-sport bikes from the late 70s and find it very nimble in the traffic, while reassuring to ride off-road in my twilight years 😅
I would love a 300, thought about the KLX 230, but it’s still 2 grand more for the 230 and double the price for a 300. That’s more then saving up, that’s more of reality and a decision maker for me.
The only change I would make, is to add the kick starter that is on the same bike being produced for the rest of the world. Only CA & US get kicked out of the kickstart world.
In Indonesia, we have crf 150l, cbr150, cb150r, adv 160, PCX 160, and newly released cbx150. Rarely people have above 250cc. 250cc above consider luxury. There are even adventure moto group/club that not consider 150cc to be part of the club, minimum 250cc. So sad sometimes motorcycle engine size devide us onto different social statuses. I have cb150x, I love it, affordable, very economical, fun to ride, yet very capable dual purpose as its light and you can pick it up by yourself.
@@jululugz2893most people in the US are looking for a bigger displacement. Make sense for recreational riding, not everyday commuting. For commuting we need to be honest that 150 - 250 is what we need.
@@iwayanpardika2575 150cc -200cc is enough. Anything above 200cc - 350cc here in Philippines is "not practical", since majoritty of the tollways here require 400cc (on paper like duke 390 it's legal) above to ride on tollways or expressways.
Hmm, just the morning, my local dealer had one just, like that one. I have bought dozens from them, using the same salesgirl. She tells me list + $1000 freight 4:25 + $350 set up and other fees. So, in the range of $4500. + ttl. She says all dealers doing that. I called them a Stealership and walked.
Just like everything great that comes along the STEALERships will ruin it. I dont think it will do well unless Honda floods the market with them. I called THREE different dealers and all three told me that they "are almost impossible to get so expect to have to pay around 5500 for one" I had thought this would be a perfect starter bike for my wife and a nice little ride for my 12yr old. But for that price I can do much better
I think most people misunderstand the rule or law on freeway riding. Speed has nothing at all do do with it. Engine size is the main factor. For example, in Oregon, to ride on the freeway a motorcycle is required to be 250cc and above.
Try a KLX230 dual sport for a starter bike and let us know what u think! Need more Kawa on your chanel :D I think it would be a great step up after that XR150L for people who want more trail riding on a great value bike!
I never thought of it like that, good point about the smaller engines! Its like turning the flame down on a lighter. The fuel last way longer, and it probably wont break. But yea i mean... its not a 1000cc bike lol. It might as well be low as shit and practically optimized
i inquired from 1 store in los angeles, they want $4600. no way im gonna pay that much....knowing that bike is only about $1900 out the door, in the philippines
Finally you & Honda are making moves. Deserved.

I've been riding since 1970 and find it a great bike. Sure the power is limited but it does its intended role nicely!
When I picked up my new 300l rally, they had one of these. I was really impressed with the value of it. Congratulations on the collaboration with Honda!
Thank you for sharing your experience, have you ridden or done a comparison with the SYM NHT 200
I’ve always found it weird that everyone says that dual sports look bad. I’m personally a big fan of dirt bike like styling. So, for a first bike this is my option
Cant wait to get this as my first bike once i get my license
Thanks for this video. It's really helpful 😎
My family owns two of these little guys for light trail riding and camping. For $3k they are a great bikes.
Value? I suggest you try the Lifan KPX 250.. I have 5 down here you can come try out in Georgia.
That look like the Brazilian Bros 150… I had one of those back in 2009 and I had a blast!
I love my 2019 I bought here in the Philippines, New here for under $1600 before add-ons.
Honda xr150 is awesome motorcycle I have mine since 2017 everyday use less maintenance gas saver and enough power
The ULTIMATE adventure bike 😍
JUST PUT A DEPOSIT ON ONE.. WHITE AN CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT ROLLING.. LOVE THAT IT HAS A CARB... A/V. FUEL 👍👍
How would you compare this against Yamaha's TW200? TW is more money for sure, but it looks more fun
That looked like so much fun.
Would you figure a lighter guy on thr XR150, 143#, it would be faster and have even better acceleration?
First! And I’ve been waiting for this video I want one
My opinion is that is one of the best looking bikes out of all of the scooters and it's not a scooter but it is in the same price range
Thank You Very Much For Sharing 👍
I think it looks good. It's the rear drum brake and carb that aren't appealing to me.
Loving small displacement machines.
Great video!!!
Spot on. Been riding 40 years. I have 200 miles on my new XR150 and will keep it forever. Exactly what I expected and more. If you know what you want and have realistic expectations, you should love this bike.
I'm probably going to get one as an urban commuter, but man I'd love a supermoto version,
I'm 6'2" 250lbs I am just looking for a bike to take to and from work 40mile round Trip.. Can this bike carry a Rider of my size, mostly paved roads, a few dirt, and maybe a couple 2 Tracks on the way home??
The ultimate homie bike. But I would still daily it.
What a great looking and awesome dual sport!! What a great price too! Love it!!
Its definitely a smooth bike, i have a 2008 125cc bros xr and its so like, old and clunky feeling, but my friends new 150 xr is soooo smooth
I wanted the 650 but they don't sell them in Canada anymore so i got an afria twin
I've been riding many, much larger dual-sport bikes from the late 70s and find it very nimble in the traffic, while reassuring to ride off-road in my twilight years 😅
There's just some people who are never satisfied with what they have. I am not one of those persons--
I would love a 300, thought about the KLX 230, but it’s still 2 grand more for the 230 and double the price for a 300. That’s more then saving up, that’s more of reality and a decision maker for me.
I love that Honda still makes Air Cooled bikes. But this bike needs to be Fuel Injected with a 6 speed…
The only change I would make, is to add the kick starter that is on the same bike being produced for the rest of the world. Only CA & US get kicked out of the kickstart world.
Keeping it simple and cheap is the best thing for a new rider. If you expect more from this bike it’s not for you.
This same machine on Crf150L. This bike get pgmfi in Indonesian market's. You can buy ecu, bore-up kits etc to upgrade your xr150L
I hope I can get one in October. That’s when I’m going to get my license
Do you know about the klx 230 dual sport ?
I’m asking the same. Dirt is KTM 350, but why not the KLX 230??? Can get it around 3k too
In Indonesia, we have crf 150l, cbr150, cb150r, adv 160, PCX 160, and newly released cbx150.
Just my opinion, if the xr150l sells well in Usa then yamaha can sell the wr155r there.
@@m.d9726 here in philippines, honda xrm 125 and suzuki raider crossover 115 are sold here... they are like a mix of dirt bike and underbone.
@@m.d9726 yes the crf150l is locally sold here, I used to see.some traffic enforcer riding crf250l but now they are using crf150l.
As a noob, this bike is what I'm looking for. Just hoping I can find a black one.
Inflation.
And now tariffs. It’s going to get crazy on everything.
1000 freight is ridiculous
Just like everything great that comes along the STEALERships will ruin it. I dont think it will do well unless Honda floods the market with them. I called THREE different dealers and all three told me that they "are almost impossible to get so expect to have to pay around 5500 for one" I had thought this would be a perfect starter bike for my wife and a nice little ride for my 12yr old. But for that price I can do much better
So you finally got Honda’s attention.. 😎👍🏻
Go for the xr650l, will not disappoint
So irrelevant
I think most people misunderstand the rule or law on freeway riding. Speed has nothing at all do do with it. Engine size is the main factor. For example, in Oregon, to ride on the freeway a motorcycle is required to be 250cc and above.
Try a KLX230 dual sport for a starter bike and let us know what u think! Need more Kawa on your chanel :D I think it would be a great step up after that XR150L for people who want more trail riding on a great value bike!
where can you get one at your quoted price??
I never thought of it like that, good point about the smaller engines! Its like turning the flame down on a lighter. The fuel last way longer, and it probably wont break. But yea i mean... its not a 1000cc bike lol. It might as well be low as shit and practically optimized
the question is why can't i wheelie my xr150 L after 3 months of practice
Is it legal to drive this 149 cc in California freeway?
I just put a slip on exhaust on my 23 XR. Im waiting for a company to make some sprockets for it 😫
Can someone be honest with me, I'm 6' 3'', Could I be comfortable on this bike? I really want one. Nearest dealer is 3 hrs away
If only they were actually under $3000. My local dealer wants an extra $1200 out the door.
i inquired from 1 store in los angeles, they want $4600. no way im gonna pay that much....knowing that bike is only about $1900 out the door, in the philippines
I was about to buy one until I saw the junk fees that the stealership added. I bought a venom 250 mini chopper for 2k instead
Great review
I ride Honda XR 125L 2004 Its my first bike after chine scooter 50cc osome bike
Thank you Honda
Man, i miss the grom days :(
Good times!
Was getting nervous about this wait on video drops haha
For what it is, it's fantastic!
It’s kinda shaped like the ttr 125-150
HOW COME NO ONE IS COMMENTING ON ALL THE EXTRA CHARGES? Priced at $3k, HOWEVER OUT THE DOOR PRICE will be close to $5k.. F-ing BS!!
