Strange that this hasn't made any "best video game music" lists that I'm aware of. This is a masterpiece that has stayed with me for the last 15 years.
I don't think I ever booted up Wild Arms without watching this intro. It is just too good. Sometimes I would pop the game in just to watch this and then end up playing the game just because. Easily one of the best intros of all time. The people who put this together deserves several awards.
The real shame of Wild Arms is that it came out around the same time as FF7 and was largely overshadowed. It was a fantastic game, and it got largely ignored when it was first released in the states.
It was a decent game but not the best on the console imo, I think the kinda jank graphics during battle didn't help either. BOF 3 and 4, Alundra, Chrono Cross and the FF's were better games personally but its still a very good JRPG. Just the PS1 had a LOT of really good JRPG's
@@incrediblehov I'd argue that Wild Arms had a more approachable and friendlier feel to the game. Also the music and environment was a lot more fun whereas FF7 had a dystopian vibe to it. But it's not a better game than FF7.
I think what did it more harm was the complely lackluster sequels, at least speaking as a series. I found this game to be far more enjoyable than any final fantasy game I played.
After all these years, this intro still hits me hard. Wild Arms was the very first game I played on Playstation. It was, and still my favorite video game of all time!
Watching this intro still makes me tear up a little. It was my favorite game when it came out and it's still my favorite to this day. They really don't make games with the same depth in the stories anymore. (And just to be an uber nerd, because this song is still my favorite, I walked down the isle to it at my wedding.)
Watching rudy climbing and feeling hope and then reaching the top and feeling love from his friends once he sees them is priceless to me. My favorite intro to anything, still gives me goosbumps.
I'd argue it's the best one ever made. it fit the story so perfectly, had a flawless background environment, and of course side character introduction. Also the music had the tone of sadness yet hope.
I love how the Wild Arms intros never really tell you anything and yet manage to fully immerse you in the setting before you even start a new game. Intros for plot exposition are interesting but seldom watched more than a couple times. Intros like this I let play every time I load up the disc.
Reality Jaunt As did I. I recently learned how to play this in another games musical feature. I am amazed when people recognize it. (Only 1 person so far 😔)
When I first saw this I was just amazed and watched it 3 times in a row. At that time I was still unaware that video games could have so much expression, and this was even after playing a good chunk of FF7. The aesthetics of this intro just gives me chills every time.
Grakesch, I’m 30 today and I first played this game I was like 12. I still play this theme song from time to time and it reminds of the beauty this game has to offer.
@@thetitan2967 same here bud, 31 now and 4-8th grade in the late 90s early 2000s is just the most nostalgic for me in regards to classic games. I don't think it's the only era though, PS2 was so goddamn well rounded, PC games and rts' had their heyday, but some of my favorite games are relatively recent, the roguelites we have now, Yakuza, it's still going strong
I don't know why listening to this brought tears to my eyes. I didn't play it yet. But for some reason I've really loved this intro. I used to collect intros even for games I didn't play.
I remember I was about 15 and on holiday in Scotland. I was searching for Wild Arms like mad after finishing Suikoden and being deep into Xenogears at the time. Having failed to find it during a daytrip to Edinburgh, we stopped off in a small town for a drink on the way back and I found it in a small gaming store they had there. I read the manual multiple times in the car ride home (motion sickness be damned!) and put it on straight away when we got to our rented flat. I was not prepared for the intro. I was blown away by the visuals and the music. Every time I played the game I would let the intro play through, sometimes a few times before playing. I still have that copy of the game I bought in Scotland. Honesty I think Wild Arms 2 (which I had to import! 😡) is probably a better game overall, but the first one will always have a place in my heart and when I think of the franchise, Rudy, Jack, and Cecilia come to mind first.
This was the first Japanese Animation that i seen in my life when I was about 11 yrs old. (I know it's a vid game) and the song is absolutely amazing. Watching this brought me to tears with happy memories flooding through me. I'm a huge anime fan and this intro is the orgins of my passion for anime.
It's very Fistfull of Dollars in style and mood. I love the whistling. Great song, very western. Fits the game perfectly. Will always be a favorite of mine. :D
I can still listen to this song on repeat, and never get tired of it. Probably one of the best intro sequences in existence, tied very closely with Wild Arms 2's intro. Mind, this is just my opinion, but yeah! :D
Kiju Axel i understand you feelings, this makes me think of happier times when i was kid when i had less issues and i was more carefree than i am now. This was one of my earlier rpg i play so it has meaning compared to most rpg i play now regardless of how old it is.
This game was a great gem in my childhood. I use this song as my ringtone since. Im sure it has been almost 20 years... Im drunk and reminiscing, so it is hard to tell. What a great game and OST.
I can still remember being just amazed and blown away by this into in 98 and falling in love. I had this and vandal hearts for my ps1 back then as my only games and was a very happy camper
One of the best intros to one of the best games of all time. This is the first game that I can remember where you can rename your magic spells. I thought it was exceptionally innovative at the time.
Damn you know this intro is powerfull when it captivates you enough to come back time and again throught the spam of 6 years, sending chills down your spine every time you do...... And you never even played the game.
You should play it, that my friend is a real old school game. So many hours worth, so many. It is hard, funny, worderful story, you'll love the characters, you'll love EVERYTHING. Also this is one of the many beautiful songs of the game :3
I first heard this song on ps1 when I was five. Now I'm twenty years old and I listen it from that first moment (grateful for that) of my childhood. Some good memories never fade...
This is the first Playstation game we owned. After getting halfway through the game we lost our console, and I wasn't able to finish the game until over a year later. I still have the old memory card with Wild Arms written on it. A+
I can't recall how many times I'd let the intro play out before playing. Great game, great intro, I got stuck on the statue combinations part for like a month but then again I was like 12.Thanks for the goog memories Wild Arms.
Recently saw this was a free download on PS5 and realized it’s been a quarter century since I played this game. Wild. Maybe time to replay it! I’m finding my most enjoyable gaming experiences lately (aside from Souls games) are replaying snes & ps1 jrpgs from my childhood. They left such an impression, but when you actually replay them it’s amazing how many locked away memories come rushing back to you and also how much of the game you totally forgot. Never forgot this intro though and it’s honestly even better than I remember. I also watched the Alter Code F intro to compare and it just doesn’t hold a candle to this.
Gosh Rudy Jack Cecilia and Hanpan !! That brings back memories ... incredible game .one of the best RPGs out there ever made . The story, combat system is godly . Come on Media Vision we want more Wild Arms.
Nice game, one of the best PS1 RPGs. Fantastic music, it's impossible to watch this intro without smiling... Surf Village! Hehehehh! I lost my memory card near the last boss... I made the duplication trick to obtain all the status-boost items.
You convince me on the duplicate. Attack, Cecilia block, on 3rd round Cecilia use item, and it shall duplicate. Don't remember the real process, but it was fun.
Why can't these new games be as good as this one? They just add a lot of senseless stuff, beautiful graphics and think it' a good game. No sir, a game needs FAR more than beautiful graphics to leave a lasting impression. I played this game as a kid and it's still in my top 10 favorite games ever.
Preach on brother!!! I get SO angry when I recommend a game to a friend and the first words out of their mouths are about what the graphics are like. Then when I tell them what system its on and they're like, "Oh..." and completely disregard everything I just said about it. Maybe one day I should just rage out and go all Limit Break Omni-Scream at them!
Kain Darkburn this opening shows you don't need high graphics to play and remember a game. games like this is art that old but when it was made they consider more of what in it than games now.
I can't understand. I didn't like the game on 1st play, I thought it was crap. Then one day, after many months (2000), I needed to test a cheat on duplicating items, but you had to make the 3 Characters meet up first. Me and my best friend, by the time we make them get together, we fell in love with that game. And now this is simply the Best Game I've ever played, for it's incredible story that keeps you playing to see more. The events are original and they unexpectedly interact with your characters items, moves and actions. The game become more and more mysterious as you progress so that you are never tired of it to try another game. I've reached the "De Le Metalica Book Puzzle", that said Knowledges and Treasures work hand to hand. Now I know how to resolve it. And I promise my self I will beat this game one day, so I can Rest In Peace.
Oh man does this take me back. I never owned this game. I never even played it. But man, whenever I was at my friend's house back in middle school I would always have him load it up just so I could watch the intro multiple times XD
Omg. This is the game ! I kept remember seeing this intro and listening to this song when I was a kid and I could never remember the game. Oh the nostalgia
Still to this day has a special place in my heart. The psone was the first console i bought with my own saved money and this was the first game i got for it. Inserting the disc and watching this theme play out i knew it was going to be an epic ride and it was it truly was a memorable experience. Please Sony bring this series back or at least do a HD remaster/remake of it.
Who also started wistle at 0:17? :) Such nostalgia though. I can play this game over and over and still do not get borred. I hope they make more of these rpg's in the furture. I miss a good story line like these.
I love this song. One of the best - if not THE best - opening score to a video game I have heard. The game itself is awesome too, and along with Suikoden my favourite RPG of all time.
I still get chills when i listen to this. it was the second game I ever bought, when I was eleven, and I love it to this day as my favorite along with FFVII. I don't think I've ever played a game since that could compare.
Oh my god! I found this game in an old cd book and the moment i heard this song, i remembered the times me and my grandma would stay up til one AM playing games like this and legend of dragoon! I miss dos days...
this was one of those games that you really had no expectation of it being that good. most of us were just waiting for FFVII and this game turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
I’ve been thinking about this game here and there and had no idea what it was called I just remember my dad playing it when I was like 5 and loving the music and thinking the characters were so pretty. I can’t believe I found this 😭 the nostalgia man
Joseph Hindy it's not like the best game intro of all time for everyone, I'am very confortable with what you say, because I know this is a matter of opinion, so, I have mine about it, and you have your. In this case you can't tell me what's is better or it's not... Se may not agree, but I have a lot of respect for your opinion.
+Allan Martins (Flying Cucumber) IMO, I think Xenogears were better, also FF7 and Valkyrie profile ranks up there. But when it comes to the music this one is really good for sure.
This was literally my childhood. Every day after school me, my dad and sister would sit around playing it for hours. Sadly we never got around to actually finishing it since it's such a long game, but we still own it. Just never have time anymore :/ (and we lost the game card a long time ago)
Strange that this hasn't made any "best video game music" lists that I'm aware of. This is a masterpiece that has stayed with me for the last 15 years.
Me too. My younger brother and i played this when we were younger.
Hardcore Gaming 101 made a list of the best vgms of all time, and this song is at the heart of it. In the top ten too.

I love this song. One of the best - if not THE best - opening score to a video game I have heard. The game itself is awesome too, and along with Suikoden my favourite RPG of all time.
still astonishing
I still get chills when i listen to this. it was the second game I ever bought, when I was eleven, and I love it to this day as my favorite along with FFVII. I don't think I've ever played a game since that could compare.
2021 and i miss my childhood after hear this theme song
Welcome to the 90’s it feels soo damn good.
Armed fantasia has brought me back here once again.
That whistle
Da werden Kindheits Erinnerungen wach....bestes intro ever
Good old days
One of my favorite intros to any video game ever made.
The whistle through back so many memories! Ha ha wow man I don't even remember if I ever completed this game.
I remember playing this way back when I was in high school! Good memories! I never did finish it though :(
Can't stop whistling whenever i heard this song
I’ve been thinking about this game here and there and had no idea what it was called I just remember my dad playing it when I was like 5 and loving the music and thinking the characters were so pretty. I can’t believe I found this 😭 the nostalgia man
that must have been the best wedding ever!
congratulations!
Holy cow the original score is...
Ecstasy of Gold [L'estasi Dell'oro] - Ennio Morricone... I never knew that until now 😲
there is no other intro better than this one...
I will love this game forever!
second to me is chrono trigger psone version intro theme.
I'm sorry but you're backwards. It's close but Chrono Cross Opening is every so slightly better than this =)
Joseph Hindy it's not like the best game intro of all time for everyone, I'am very confortable with what you say, because I know this is a matter of opinion, so, I have mine about it, and you have your.
I can feel it.. (For love)
Awws shiit.. (To Shine)
...
WE ALL NEED, TO SHINE ON, TO SEE!!
This was literally my childhood. Every day after school me, my dad and sister would sit around playing it for hours. Sadly we never got around to actually finishing it since it's such a long game, but we still own it. Just never have time anymore :/ (and we lost the game card a long time ago)
