    Thank you for these instructions. This is very precious and detailed learning material. I live in Spain and I cannot find あかし紙 anywhere. Any chance we could see a tutorial on how to make our own at home? Thank you! 🙏

      Thank you!
      In the case of metal leaves made in Japan, a thin sheet called Haku-aishi is placed between each sheet of metal leaf.
      If you are making akashi-gami (wax paper) yourself, you rub a candle as evenly as possible on one side of the haku-aishi to apply wax to it.
      The size of the haku-aishi and the metal leaf is the same, so if you are pressing metal leaves onto the entire surface of a painting, using the akashi-gami you made yourself requires experience. However, if you are applying the metal leaves to small or partial areas, this method is worth trying.

    Please can you make a video (or recommend a video) with the traditional Japanese framing of a painting on gold leaf.
    Also, please tell me what material (silk brocard) is used around the painting(Kireji???donsu???kinran??? ). I want to buy this kind of marerial but I don't know how to look for online stores that sell this product. What is the commercial name of the product and some stores that sell it online with international delivery.(What types of stores sell the product silk brocade for border art work frame ?)

    Great video. Is adding gold leaf to paintings an indigenous Japanese development, or was it inspired by Chinese/Korean painting styles?

    • @KIYOHASEGAWA
      @KIYOHASEGAWA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is said that it was originally brought from China :)

    On the gold leaf treated with the dosa as in this video, will it be painted directly with color or must the gofun drawing surface be made first and then colored?

      @@KIYOHASEGAWA After painting on the gold leaf with the color must be given a layer of varnish? if so, can you indicate a product?

    • @KIYOHASEGAWA
      @KIYOHASEGAWA  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You don't need varnish. If the paint is firmly adhered to the metal leaves, there's no need to apply anything on top.

    So do you paint the painting on the paper first, and then apply gold leaf? Or just paint straight on the gold leaf after the dosa solution has dried? Where can I purchase the dosa solution? I live in the States
    Tried searching dosa solution and all I found was Indian crepe recipes 😂. Is the a site where I can purchase nihonga painting products?

    • @KIYOHASEGAWA
      @KIYOHASEGAWA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whichever is OK! If you apply Gold leaf directly on washi paper, it is better to do 捨て膠 Sutenikawa. 捨て膠 is to put nikawa solution on washi once before applying Gold leaf. It will let the gold leaf fix on the paper stronger.
      When searching on internet, I guess it's better to search in Japanese (Dosa is ドーサ in Japanese) and then google translate the website that comes up.
      pigment.tokyo/?set_language=en
      Here is an URL of an art supply store (with Nihonga materials) that does international shipping.

    Hello Kiyo. I have a question. What is the size of the gold leaf in Japan? It looks larger than the US, and European, which are 8 cm. Do you know of a supplier who ships overseas? Thank you!

    • @KIYOHASEGAWA
      @KIYOHASEGAWA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are several sizes, and the major size of gold leaf in Japan is 10.9cm.
      Hakuichi is a supplier that ships overseas, though you might need some Japanese.

      There are many online shops that you can purchase Nihonga materials in Japan, but if you live in the US, this is the only shop I know so far that does international shipping.
      pigment.tokyo/?set_language=en
      You can paint on gold or silver leaves in the same way as painting on washi paper, though the surface is a bit slippery.
