You should dedicate tournament even to married ladies, that will open up an option to fix relashionship with her relatives using her dialogue. it can be really helpful when you need to buy that enterprise in a town and the lord hates you.
You can use the "hold this position" and "fallow me" to make you team stay together in melee rounds. If you get stuck using a weapon you don't know how to use, you can look down at defeated guys and pick up their weapons (usually) and mount their horses. If you hate throwing the Javelins you can press X (or dpad up on ps4) to change it to stabbing spear mode. Opponents will eventually run out of ammo and if it's a javelin user they just stand there waiting for death. Many opponents on horses become harder if you kill their horse, because they have little or no riding or horse archery stats. You can jump up and wak mounted opponents if you start the attack and then jump.

Bitch please I fight the calvary on foot only using the Javelin's melee! No combat skills! (when they get stuck against the wall, spank the horse until it falls over, then you can wail on its rider till they stand up.)

Whenever there are more than 2 teams, I always tell my team to "Follow me" (F1, F2), then run to a vacant corner and let the other teams thin themselves out. Then hopefully I have a reasonably healthy team to mop up any stragglers. Doesn't always work out that way, but it's a solid strat.
if you are playing on normal its hard, sometimes imposlible. Just started new run and in my first tournament i was in finals vs king ragnar and got own :D his agiliti was much higher and i could not hit him before he could hit me :D and one of his hits is more then enough to knock you out :)
Can you do a combat guide for difficulties other than 1/4 player damage? I try to follow your advice on normal damage and get knocked out in one or two blows.

i wouldn't recommend raiding as a low lvl new player. you easily get a negative relation with the faction and lords start chasing you. and as a newby you will pretty much certainly get captured. only recommended when you're higher lvl and more experienced in the game in general.
It's actually super easy to take out some villages on the outer edges of the factions, you just gotta scout the area and make sure no nobles are occupying castles nearby is there is one. I started a new account and played for probably about 2 hrs and had almost 30k denars from raiding villages.
Some of your tips really helped, I got in a fight that was close, my 37 against the enemies 69, I was the last one alive with 19 of their party's cavalry left and got the horse underneath me killed 3 times, but I still won with 9% health left

Little late to the party. but if you start with a shitty weapon look on the floor for a better one. often you'll spawn with something you're not proficient, like throwing weapons or bow and arrow and a dagger. you can try and grab the weapon from a defeated opponent.

In tournaments, one of the only things that matter is your skill in the game. You do not even need to have a lot of power strike. If you are very good and you are put in a polearm duel, you can take your chances and go against the other guy and try to hit him, instantly knock him. However, if you miss, you will probably be knocked out. Also, if you are put in a duel with polearm vs sword, prepare for it, because the sword guy will almost always defender every attack, so expect at least 5 minutes of fighting.
How do you get that metal glare on the helmets? I have Floris Expanded with HDR on but I don't get that metal glare, every metal surface in the game is dull and matted...
Already the jousting champion and got my first fief, just watching until I see you show me what to do next. Ransoming lords currently but realizing that protecting that fringe property is nigh impossible so how do I expand? Got a few businesses too for financing my escapades ;)

A massive army can sometimes be your downfall with all that morale and money. Its best to carry around 60 and keep others on hand in a city or castle so when you take over a castle your morale won't be shit.

I normally start off with tournaments because of the money and it also helps build renown.

This is impossible on Normal + Good AI difficulty. That Kradus MFer kills you in one hit every time you see him in the tourney.

Sure if you have power strike on 4 or 5 as Beau said, it will be easier, but you can do it at the beggining of the game (if you're good enough).

Any Swadia town or Nords. They play to my strengths with sword + shield or a two-handed sword. Any town that favors Archery sucks.
Normally any nord towns cus I make freids with them cus I like their troop diversity and they are easy to do (always bet 100)
I always get the stupid mounted archer set up and I either lose or waste 5 hours running around til I knock him out

You can get knocked out and still move on to the next round if you've knocked out 2+ opponents in the round!

its not chance it depends on performance if you have the most kills on your team and were last on your team to go down you get to continue

I prefer to keep as many allies as posable in each round so I don't get ganged up on whenever posable
