The cheapest and best easy wheels for Brompton might be Oxelo wheels from DECATHLON… but be careful!

  • Oxelo inline skating wheels from Decathlon can perfectly fit on the Brompton Folding Bike with Rack.
    Budget 6€ for 4 wheels… seems like a very low budget easy wheel solution.

    It amazes me that so many items on a Brompton need changing from new. I would have expected these items to be "right first time" given the cost of a new Brompton.

      @eliastv5498 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of what you're paying for with a Brompton is the progressive ideology that causes large inefficiencies in the company including choosing to hire unskilled minority and women labor and training them from the ground up on jobs that were traditionally done by 'white men.' Go look at the Brompton documentary and hear it for yourself. The Chinese knockoffs are the same thing but made with efficient factories.

      i thought so too. i was checking out a Brompton bike for the first time in a Brompton flagship store and wanted to try the shopping cart function. While being folded something scratched on the ground, and i was told that was because of the extreme uneven ground they had. When in reality it was just a normal city sidewalk, which was quite flat.
      They have taller wheels as an option, why not give this information to the customer? so i'm left with a scratching bike that i wouldn't want to buy.
      luckily i knew of the wheel mods and it didnt scare me away 😅.
      i have ordered my Brompton yesterday, and now at 4am i'm ordering the decathlon wheels. i think these might last a lot longer than slim easywheels.

      Yes, really amazing, a scandal!!!! 6 euros for the 4 wheels so they could get 2 for 3 euros and certainly less! And I'm going to have to go to Decathlon to buy them, fix them on...

      Nothing "needs" to be changed. It all depends on what you consider to be "right". Don't forget most bikes you buy from the bike store have cheap saddles and no pedals at all

      @@terry_huttit is pretty bizarre that the original wheels do not function well unless you are using them on polished stone/tile floors. Anything beyond that I've had to revert to carrying the bike.

    The original E wheels on a Brompton is just to show that it is a possibility, and you should very fast buy some larger wheels!! As many things on a Brompton, which could have been made better (Protection against scratches during the fold!)!! I have some larger than "life size" on mine, and it makes it a "tank" (And not that easy rolling though (Very funny!))! I actually haven't that much original parts left on my "SuperlightM6LXBrompton", which is now down to 9,35 kilo, with mudguards, and still loosing weight, at a fast speed! I expect to come below 9 kilo soon, and still with mudguards, as a "Rainy Dane"? Finn. Denmark

  • @epikurius5780
    @epikurius5780 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great idea! So, you took the screw from the rear wheels and placed them in the front wheels (when unfolded), right? And for the rear wheels took standard screws and bolts? It seems to me, the Decathlon wheels fits M6 screws, but the Brompton uses M5 - would this make the wheels a bit wobbly?

    some brommies say that these wheels are too strong to use and the recommended brompton wheels are designed to collapse if the bike is dropped for example, so there will be no damage to the wheel frame supports...

    • @handsonbrompton7875
      @handsonbrompton7875  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      indeed, I red the different opinions.
      I'd recommend staying with easywheels of the Brompton brand ... but it remains a very reliable alternative, for a very competitive price though.
      Cheers.

    • @cosinus_square
      @cosinus_square 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Only the conical wheels were designed to break, which Brompton updated in 2016 to the ones supplied with the bikes now, which don't break on impact but are soft. Brompton themselves sell an easy wheel upgrade, which will also not break on impact. If the skateboard/inline skate wheel used is soft enough, there should be no issues really, but replacing noisy plastic wheels, with bigger plastic wheels doesn't make sense, get the softest ones available.

    • @A-Wa
      @A-Wa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cosinus_square wait the eazy wheels from brompton are not made to break and would bend the frame?? damn I just ordered them…

    • @cosinus_square
      @cosinus_square ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@A-Wa there's no wheel available that will save your frame if dropped from high enough to cause damage, in which case you have bigger problems and maybe a Brompton is not the bike you need. There's no scenario I can imagine where the bike gets dropped while folded to cause such damage under normal usage conditions. If outside normal usage conditions, it will be a warranty conditions breach and Brompton will not honor their warranty anyway so I can only assume people who's frames broke due to dropping the bike while folded it was user error not a non-crumbling wheel fault. The wheels are designed to offer some protection because it was possible to design the wheel that way, it's not a safety mechanism.
      tl;dr Whatever wheels you use, it doesn't make any difference if you drop the bike or sit on it while folded.
