  • Found my Avro to be quite unstable when rolling it in its folded position, didn't help when it is slightly wider because of the wider rear triangle. The rear rack removal also brought the suspension closer to the ground when I was rolling it. Glad to have it rolling better with the new Easy Wheel Extenders and larger Easy Wheels. Enjoy!

    Hey Fred, thank you very much for all these videos. And thanks for adding the errors (mounting wheels first before mounting extender) great learning lessons!
    Just got my foldie and learning a lot ! Thanks again !

      Hey Derek, congratulations on your new foldie! Just documenting my own journey messing with my bike. A big part of the fun! Glad it helped in some ways. Happy riding and modding! 😁👍

    There is still chances the extender angle will move and thus loosen it
    , especially so on some even floor or hitting something. Saw another video, can use a support bar to prevent the extender from moving to different angle. I think can diy a support bar.

    You removed the fenders to save on weight (312g for Brompton fenders & stays) but added a wheel extender, so not sure how much you saved in the end..
    I tried several options with my Bromptons (incl. a Kamoya Tilt & Stay) and in the end figured that it was a pain to tilt and roll the bikes around on just 2 wheels.
    So one bike ended up with fenders plus Avola Double Fender Mudguard Wheels, and another bike was fitted with a Ti Parts Workshop Titanium Carbon Rear Rack (sans fenders) plus 4 Aovla wheels (2x60mm , 2x50mm).
    A bike is relatively lighter (and some would argue looks nicer without fenders or rack) but the trade off is much better rolling, and utility with the fenders.
    Btw, YMMV but 80mm EZ wheels also increases the chances of heel strike. There are some thicker EZ wheels you can also explore that look like roller blade wheels.

      Thank you, those are some cool parts you mentioned. I will be happy to carry weight if they serve me in some ways. To me, I just have no use for a rack and wouldn't roll it often. So it's just unnecessary weight. Spot on for heel strike, had to add extenders and all good now. 😉

      @@fredphua The Muqzi extender is 124g whereas the Ti Parts rack (larger 280mm model) weights in at 138g. One would still need to add 2x wheels to the latter (I used Avola 50mm 3-spoke Easy Wheels at 30g each) but overall it is still much lighter than the stock Brompton rack. Most use their racks for rolling instead of additional cargo capacity. Likewise, the Ti Parts rack is designed for rolling as it is almost too narrow to be practically used as a cargo rack. I wasn't inclined to add a rack but figured eventually it was the most effective way to roll the bike, especially doing groceries with a large front basket bag. My other bike with the Double Fender Mudguard Wheels rolls less well, even though the bike itself is lighter at 8kg. Not a rack advocate but have to admit they still roll the best, and from experience the larger the EZ wheels fitted, the higher the CG and the less stable the bike becomes went folded (plus heel strike issues). Cheers.

    You need a key to hold the extender part, while tightening the wheel bolt to the correct tension! Mine is a version with a carbon tube in the middle.

    Hi Fred, thanks for clear and well explained video.
    I have one of similar design but its a LitePro brand, when retracted, the extendable rod/shaft rattles around in the housing and extremely noisy, imagine the ruckus when I am out cycling as if my foldable bike is falling apart!
    Does this extender make a lot of rattling noise when it is retracted? Thanks in advance!

    • @fredphua
      @fredphua  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey there, I didn't feel any rattling on this. On rare occasions, I'd accidentally kick the rolling wheels though, but not a big deal for me. 😁

    Yes, this extender has a better design than the "lots of washers" one. Bigger easy wheels increase the stability while rolling the bike folded but I have heel strike on the bigger wheels once in a while.

    Fred nice video as usual . actually you will still need to tilt it upwards to roll still inconvenient if you ask me . The bicycle is already heavy add a rack does no harm . If you want it sleek add a carbon rack , lightweight and you can roll like a 3sixty/pikes/aceoffix.

    Hey Fred, thanks for these vids. I recently got myself a La bici trifold. Probably the more, if not most economical trifold out there. I was trying to get an easy wheel extender that fits but wasn't able to find one that is 140mm mount, as most comes with a max width of 115mm. Do you happen to know/chance upon one that can extend to fit a 140mm width?

    • @fredphua
      @fredphua  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey James, congratulations on your new bike! Apologies, there may be a 140mm mount out there, but I personally haven't come across it. If none can be found, maybe machining out may be an option. Just thinking out loud. ☺️

    Hi Fred, thank you for this clip. I have a question for you, how much weight can this extender handle when extended and rolled? I installed a Litepro one, and I extended and roll only a couple of times and it bent and can not be slid out and returned! Thank you.

    • @fredphua
      @fredphua  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Krid, sorry I'm not exactly sure on the weight tolerance. I have tried rolling it with a full load of stuff (laptop, clothes etc) in my bag that's attached to the bike. I'd say it comes up to aprox 15kg+ or so? Worked fine for me.

  • @sixtwentyse7en
    @sixtwentyse7en 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Fred, I've also removed my rack and I've noticed that the handlebar will now support the base instead. Do you have any issues with that as I was thinking of the many times in the future where I will just forget about it and unintentionally drag my handlebar on the ground.

    • @fredphua
      @fredphua  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, thanks for dropping by the channel. Yes I have the same observation. When it is folded, it will "tilt forward" and the handlebar will rest on the ground while stationary. That said, rolling it isn't an issue for me because I have to "tilt backwards" before I can roll so I won't be dragging it through the ground. Not sure if I'm clear here, haha trying my best alr. 😁

    Is it sufficient to get the bigger wheels or is the extender necessary too? I'm debating this because both would add some weight.

    • @fredphua
      @fredphua  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, thanks for swinging by the channel. I guess it really depends on what you are trying to solve. If you are trying to solve for the issue where the suspension block may be too close to the ground, the bigger wheel alone should be fine? If you are trying to add some stability to the bike (wider rolling wheel base) when folded, maybe the extender alone would work? Hope this helps! 😁👍
